Ipod nano 2 generation right headphone won't work, issue with jack (several headphones were tried)

For some reason, my ipod nano 2nd generation, doesn't play music through one of the headphones. i tried several pairs of headphones. but just one will work. any suggestions? obviously out of warranty

You'll need to replace the headphone jack in the Nano, you can send it off to a 3rd party repair site (http://www.iresq.com) or buy the part and do it yourself (http://www.ifixit.com).

  • Why won't my BRAND NEW iPod Nano 7th Generation recognize headphones?

My BRAND NEW iPod Nano 7th Generation (purchased from and Apple Store less than a week ago) will not recognize any headphones.  Consequently, I can hear NO sounds.  It worked just fine right after I set it up. I turned it off, disconnected headphones that came with the Nano. Several hours later I turned it on again, plugged in the headphones, and then I could hear NOTHING. When I tried the radio, I got the message there was no signal because it said the headphones were not plugged in, which they were.  I have tried two other sets of headphones.  None work, but they all work in another iPod, so I know it is not the headphones. I restored the software and started over, but this didn't help either.  I have pushed the headphone jack in as far as possible. This is very frustating because this Nano was a birthday gift for my husband.   I will be grateful for any help.  Thanks a lot.

Thanks SO much for the GREAT advice!  I did just what you said, and I am back in business.  The sound is fine, and the radio works. I cleaned out the jack with a tooth pick, blew some air in, and pushed the jack in a bit harder.I guess I was too tentative about pushing the jack all the way in. You were right that it is a tight fit.  Thanks again, deggie.  My husband thanks you also! His birthday gift now works!  Yay!

  • My ipod nano 7th generation is stuck in a restore loop with a white screen. Now it won't turn on anymore. What to do?

My new Ipod Nano 7th generation is stuck in a restore loop. Here is what happened: I added music to it using the latest version of iTunes, the colored bar at the bottom of the summary tab in iTunes showed my that I added it and I disconnected it to listen to the music. As I turned it on, it told me that there is neither music nor pictures on it. So I connected it again to my computer and iTunes told me that I had to restore. Which I did following all the steps but it keep telling me that I need to restore it. After three times of restore it, I disconnected it from my PC and turned it off. Now it won't turn on anymore - even though the battery is fully charged - and when I connect it to iTunes, iTunes tell me "The iPod software updater could not be contacted. The server does not support this version of iTunes." Well, I just downloaded the newest version a couple of minutes ago from the apple website. My iPod stays black. What shall I do?

    Hi clarity,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You may want to first try removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes by following the steps in this article:

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation is not being detected by Widows and Itunes. I have tried everything based on the trouble shooting tips outlined. Has anyone had this situation before? How was it resolved. My Ipod is just out of warrenty

Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod  nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything. Thanks

Try changing the cord. I could NOT get my computer to recognize my iPod 5th Gen until I read somewhere that different apple devices use different cords. I was inadvertently using my iPad cord and that caused my computer to not recognize my ipod.

  • IPOD Nano 2nd Generation remote Headphones

I am interested in some new headphones for my ipod nano. I have had a look at some accessories and am wanting the ones advertised "Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic". It states that this can only be used on nano 4th generation and above.
Has anyone tried using this on their 2nd generation. I am really interested in the remote function.

I already stated that above.. i plug the headphones into another device, and they are still broken..
I'm guessing there's some dirt or something lodged up in there that's causing problems... but that wouldn't explain why it breaks the headphones and they don't work with other devices...

  • My Ipod Nano 4th gen click wheel won't work will apple be able to fix this?

My Ipod Nano 4th Gen's Click Wheel won't work.Is there a way that Apple can repair this for me and how much will it cost?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for the 16 GB one and $149 for the others. You can send it to Apple or exchange it at an Apple store
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod nano gen 4 forward button won't work, and the hold switch won't either.  I've tried restoring it and it didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?

The forward button won't work and the hold switch doesn't either.  I tried restoring it, but that didn't work.

Restore to factory settings.new iPod if you have not yet already. If still problem time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • I have restored my ipod nano 2nd generation but its still not working

i have reset my ipod and restored it but it is still not working. i have connected to itunes and it has loaded some music onto it but though the light comes on you cannot see anything else on the screen. any suggestions would be appreciated

It might be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • IPod Nano and my hard drive won't work on my G3....Why!?!

    Hey everyone.
I'm home from college, and I didn't want to take my iMac with me. Luckily, I have been using an older G3 iBook. It works fine, but when I tried to plug in my iPod Nano, it doesn't recognize it. I didn't bring my Nano install disk. Is there another way to get the computer to recognize the Nano?
Also, I brought my external Hard Drive home so I have my music collection with me. On my iMac, I have no problem. I plug it in via USB, and it works fine. But again, my G3 iBook doesn't recognize the external hard drive. Now...I'm stuck at home with no music....HELP!

If you have an older version of OS, then you will be unable to download the newest version of itunes. In that case, the best bet is to restore the ipod.

  • Ipod nano 7th generation: is the cable included to sync with iTunes, or just the charger?

With info about what can be purchased separately, i just want to know what is included in the purchase of the iPod Nano 7th g.
Is it just the charger, or also a cable that will allow me to sync it to iTunes (USB and Lightning ends)?

  • I have an iPod nano 3rd generation and it won't turn on, I plug it into it's charger and it won't turn on, please help!!

my ipod won't turn on! i've had it for a while , i just haven't come to use it for the past couple of years. i've tried charging it but it won't turn on. i don't know how to fix it. helpppp! please!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod nano got wiped, now it won't work on my iTunes

Hi, I went home for the holidays, got a new CD and attempted to put it on my iPod at my parent's house using their iTunes. After the attempt, my iPod got totally wiped, all the music is completely gone. So I restored it. Now that I am back home, when I connect it to my iTunes, it recognises it, but it won't let me drag any music from my iTunes to myiPod.....so I can't put any music on it!!! What do I do??

Connect your iPod and make sure that the "manually manage songs and videos" box in the Summary tab is checked. Your iPod has most likely defaulted to auto-sync after the restore. Check the box and click Apply, you should be able to drag songs to the iPod after that: Managing content manually on iPod
