IPod Nano 2G is not seen by windows or iTunes

***
I have tried the 5R's and re-installed iTunes and used a different usb cable and most of the tips posted here. Nothing helped. The kicker to the whole situation is when I tried exchange it, all the stores are sold out. Thanks apple, thanks for a great Christmas.

Well, I have the iPod 5th Generation 30GB version which cost quite a pretty penny. It worked just fine right out of the box. I got my little daughter the 2GB nano because she is so young and wanted one like daddy. Well, I guess you get what you pay for. My nano shows up as "Banged out" in Device Mangler and Windows doesnt recognize it. It's pretty **** frustrating if you ask me. I have tried the 5 R's until my fingers are falling off, and nothing has worked. I plugged it into every USB port on my laptop, bought a 7 port hub and plugged it into every single port and tried it 7 times in each port. I think I can safely say that this POS isn't worth a bucket of spit, but ****, what should I expect for forking $150 over to Apple. I guess you have to buck up to $250 before you get anything worth having, and that includes it's accessories. So, now what? Keep perusing these boards and just hand it off to my 8 year old daughter on Christmas day? This is patently insane. There is no reason whatsoever these things shouldnt work on any machine that has a USB port. It's a joke and explains why MS always dominates them in any endeavor.

  • New ipod nano 2nd gen. not loading onto windows or itunes

I just got an ipod nano 2gb 2nd gen. (refurbished from apple). I updated my former version of itunes (my daughter has a 1st gen. nano, so she's been using itunes with her's with no problems..) to the latest version like the quick start guide says. Plugged in the ipod to the usb port on the back of the computer and the setup wizard pops up, asking to install the software for the device. I try letting it auto search, which it finds nothing, and I get a message saying "your new hardware may not work properly.....". I checked the device manager and the ipod is listed under "other devices" with a question mark by it. I checked to make sure my daughters 1st gen. nano works with the updated itunes and it does with no problems. Now what?

I also have a 2nd generation, which I purchased after my ipod Shuffle stopped updating. We plugged it in, followed the instructions but the Nano was not recognised by my PC, however, my nano does get recognised on my husband's pc. My daughters ipod and my old shuffle both are still recognised on my pc. I need to delete the shuffle, as it is faulty, but more importantly, I need to get my pc to recognise the nano. Please help.

  • Nano 5th gen, not seen in windows or itunes, older ipod IS

OK my ipod is a Nano 5th Gen and the Mrs is 2nd gen, as soon as i plug her ipod into my win 7 pc it comes up fine in both explorer and itunes so my system is working fine i guess.
However when ever i plug my in nothing happen, not showing up in itunes or windows explorer or right clicking on my computer and selecting "Manage" right clicking "Disk Management" or "Device Manager" there is NO mention of Apple device, tried resetting it by turning lock on then off then menu/centre button, which did reset the ipod but still not showing up in either windows or ituens.
Just wondering what i'm missing her, I do have access to the mrs laptop with ituens on but of course it has her music on, **** while i was typing i got hers out plugged my ipod into her laptop and again nothing in itunes or explorer so i'm 99.9% the issue is with my Nano.
So is she dead and times to go and buy something new or does anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

Try one or more of the following:
    Restart your computer
    Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes
Reset iPod (will not delete everything)
Check in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if it shows
    Restore iPod (will delete everything)
Make sure iTunes and iOS firmware is up to date

  • Ipod not seen by windows or itunes

Hello, I'm totally frustrated and have been searching for hours. Please someone help.
    - Nano 8 gb
    - Windows xp
Neither Windows (my computer) nor Itunes sees my ipod. Ipod is working fine: did the menu/select thing, cable is good.
When I plug the ipod in the usb port I hear a bleep and I get a message bottom right "new hardware found ipod"and the icon is a usb cable. Ipod is not in My computer window. Ipod is not seen by Itunes
Tried Device Manager/I see Ipod with a ? Yellow. If i right click on it and do update driver the ms computer management system crashes and sends error report.
I tried dowloading the USB driver and placing it in the directory, but I got stuck because there is no windows/inf directory. I tried to update the usb driver with the same ms crash.
I'm completely frustrated, please can someone help me.

I was having the same problem the other day. I'm not sure what it was but I think it has something to do with the i tunes and i pod 1.2 update.
    What I did was:
    1. Uninstall i tunes
    2. Restart my computer
    3. pluged my ipod in a slow usb line
    4. waited until my pc recognized it in there. It took a little while.
    5. re installed i tunes from apple.com
    6. waited until i tunes recognized my ipod
    7. updated my i pod with my library it took a long time because i was in the slow usb plug.
    8. re plugged my ipod into a 2.0 usb line
    9. i tunes recognized it.
    10. I then updated my ipod to the new 1.2 version
    11. The problem started happening again
12 I repeated what I did before and now it is working.
It was very frustrating! I hope it works for you.1

  • Ipod Nano 4th Gen not recognised in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Itunes and screen blank

    Hello,
I have a quite old (3-4 years old) iPod Nano 4th Gen.
The screen is blank, which means it needs charging. When I plug it into my laptop/computer then it doesn't show up which im assuming is because it needs charging.
When I plug it into my plug charger (plugged into a wall) nothing happens.
I think this is because the cables (I have 3- 2 computer USB cables and one plug charger cable) being too lose and not connecting to the iPhone fully.
I have looked at all the articles, I have done the R's, I have tried to restore it, I have pressed the clickwheel and centre button together and I have toggled the hold switch.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated! (And please save the "take it to apple support" etc... comments for if you can't think of anything else- not being rude but I know this)
    Thanks
    BitMyApple

Hey, I hear ya and can sympathize. I have the same
issue. The difference is that my computer can "see"
    my ipod but it refuses to show up in itunes itself;
therefore, I can't put anything on the ipod (from the
computer) and vice-versa. Apple support is clueless.
This is very frustrating to say the least. Itunes
keeps telling me that my ipod is synced to a
"different" computer, which isn't true. It's the
same computer. The difference is that when I first
got the 'pod and used it with this computer (and
everything worked fine), I was running XP. I
installed Vista and after that, all the problems
started. If I ever get this resolved, believe me,
    I'll post something here.
I'm guessing that somehow, itunes "sees" what
computer it's hooked to by "looking" at something in
the OS. Change the OS and it "thinks" it's seeing a
    "different" computer.
    Try reformatting it.

I can't seem to get the iPod in either Windows or iTunes, and I have tried to follow the instructions on the website, but it doesnt seem to help. Also, the iPod screen toggles between an apple and also a plug and socket picture. Can anyone help? I'd really appreciate it!

  • Ipod mini  and nan2nd not recognised by windows or itunes

Had ipod mini for two years no problems. My son got a nano 2nd gen in november no problems. latest itunes downloaded and none of the above are recognised. tryed all the quick fixes on the help pages and a few on the discussion page nothing works please help.....

I'm having the exact same problem, have tried everything listed on this page and the device manager steps. Nothing extra comes up when I click on "show hidden devices" the exact same listings are still there. And there is nothing indicating an ipod mini in the USB section in device manager or "unknown device" or anything.
The other user said "thank you yes have tried this and message is as follows: windows cannot start this device because its configuration information (in registry) is incomplete or damaged (code19)" - but nothing like that is coming up on mine. None of the R's make anything different. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone give me a hand?

  • Ipod Nano 2g is not reconized by Windows Vista or Explorer

Hello I just got this iPod from my friend and i went to go lock it and I totally forgot the password. And I haven't even added any music yet. And I asked my friend if he knew the password and he said no so I am stuck with locked ipod and a Windows Vista not picking it up. I tryed the 5r's can't get it to to restore because window vista don't see it.

The friend that you got the iPod from...were they using a PC or a Mac? If the iPod is not formatted for a PC then that could be the problem. Try looking at the following article to see if it helps determine the issue. iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows

  • Ipod nano 6th gen not recognised at all in itunes or windows

Nano was recognised as a device first two times i used it but now not recognised in itunes or in my computer as an ipod. Followed various help suggestions but no change. Does t need software restoring and if so how if not recognised in itunes?

This problem now solved after a few hours browsing Apple help and other forums like this - tried connecting through usb ports at rear of computer instead of front and instantly itunes recognised it.  Odd since I can still connect my camera through front usb ports - the mystery of computers eh?  Anyone know how to fix front usb ports?
