Ipod nano 2nd gen either gets white screen or apple icon but is recognized by itunes! What now

So I have done the reset steps and I will either get the white screen or the apple icon with 2 audible beeps. The Ipod does show up in Itunes, however I cant play music. I dont know if it has been dropped or not as I am doing a favor for a friend. I was able to restore the ipod via Itunes as well but Im stuck here. I dont know how to put in disk mode when I cant see anything on the screen except the white screen or the apple icon. Any Ideas as what to do next or is this Ipod done?

I also have a 2nd generation, which I purchased after my ipod Shuffle stopped updating. We plugged it in, followed the instructions but the Nano was not recognised by my PC, however, my nano does get recognised on my husband's pc. My daughters ipod and my old shuffle both are still recognised on my pc. I need to delete the shuffle, as it is faulty, but more importantly, I need to get my pc to recognise the nano. Please help.

This came from another thread, but worked for me. Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62. Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update). Reboot, and reinstall iTunes. It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano. Good luck.

While the nano is connected to your computer and iTunes is open, hold down the volume up, volume down and sleep/wake button at the same time until iTunes brings up a dialog then release the buttons.
The dialog should walk you through 'recovering' the nano. See if that does it for you.

I listened to my ipod last night. My son went to get it and it has a white screen that states ok to disconnect (it is not connected to the computer). It won't let me do anyting to it. I tried to hook it up to the computer and it changes to do not disconnect and then won't let me eject it - it says sync is done but it says I can't disconnect because files are being used somewhere else. Then I pulled it out and it goes back to ok to disconnect.
Hope someone can help me.

IPod nano 4th gen stuck on White Screen of Death

So recently my iPod of 4 years has gotten the white screen of death.
I tried doing the restarting. You know. hold the on/off button then hold MENU and SELECT. Nothing. It just blinks the white screen off and then on.
Interest to note: I use my ipod nano in the shower (with dock). Maybe the steam from the shower had something to do with it?

I should note that I CAN still use this ipod. I can play songs on it EVEN while my screen is white. Also, when I plug it into my Win7 (32-bit), the iTunes (latest version 1.0.4) recgonizes my ipod and play the songs/playlist from it.

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. But I have alot more music that is on my Ipod nano that I can't put into my ITunes library. In fact, I can't even get my music into a file folder on my computer!! I really need help. How do I get my music either into ITunes or into a file folder on my new computer or even if I could get my computer to recognize my Ipod and sync all the music into windows media or something like that. They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.

If the problem persits after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod then you likely have a hardware problem. In that case an appointment at the Genius Bar of an apple store or returing it to Apple is in order.

ITunes and my PC won't recognize my iPod Nano (2nd gen.)

Just this morning, my iPod nano (2nd gen.) stopped getting recognized in my iTunes and on my computer hard drive. It still charges when it's plugged into the computer, but the device is not recognized otherwise. What is going on?? Thanks!

i have read through alot of the posts and have not seen anything similar to my question.
i got my daughter an ipod nano for xmas.
we really dont leave the computer on alot and she was wanting a docking station/speaker setup. i found one that charges it/ has speakers and is also an alarm clock.
she likes the idea of having the alarm clock with it.

we have not hooked it up yet because of a small problem maybe. (hooked up to power that is)
it came with a bunch of different adapters for the different ipod versions. well the nano one is incorrect. i guess due to ours being a 2nd gen version.
the ipod goes right on the dock fine with out it.
the little plastic adapter i got with the ipod kinda works in the slot of the radio but would need a little modification to snap in. the difference is the outside shape and would just needed some sanding. i have called the support number for the radio and all i could get from the was its not compatable. and i am not too sure why.
from what i have found out is all the ipod dock connectors are the same and there is no difference. not sure about this just what i have noticed.
i tried to call my local apple store and ask them but that guy started talking about firewire and problems. i told him how it docked and what it was and he still insisted on talking about firewire and those problems. i hung up as it didnt sound like he knew anything.
so now would i be ok in useing the adapter i got with the ipod and makeing some slight mods(sanding outside edge) to it. or is the something totally different between the 1st gen and 2nd gen that would mess up the ipod if put in this unit.
the reason i want this unit as it will replace her current alarm clock and she has a loft bed and its the only unit that we have seen that will fit and is in our price range.

The dock adaptor that came with the iPod is meant to fit Apple's universal dock and not a 3rd party accessory.
The reason you are having issues is because although the dock connectors on iPods are all the same (the pins are in the same place), the connector on the second gen nano is in a slightly different place than on the first. If you look at it from the bottom with the iPod face up, it's slightly more to the left. This, and the fact that it has a metal case with rounded edges, has made the new nano incompatible with almost all these type of accessories.
It's been mentioned here several times, and a few people have been able to get the manufacturer of the dock to supply them with an adaptor.
