Ipod nano 2nd generation isnt recognized by itunes or windows help!!!

My iPod nano 2nd generation when i plug it in to the computer it charges but it isnt regocnized by itunes or windows as a disk help!

I just got a new iPod nano and when I connect it, nothing happens. Itdoes not appear in the device list in iTunes. The nano screen says it is connected but I didn't get to even set it up in itunes. I've tried everything on the apple site - uninstalled itunes and then reinstalled, reset the ipod. I just can't restore because the apple site says I need to do that through iTunes, but I can't b/c it's not showing up in the device list. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

New iPod Touch 2nd Generation not recognized in iTunes OSX 10.4.11

Hi anyone,
I have problem that my new iPod Touch 2nd Gen, it won't recognized in iTunes. iTunes already updated to 8.02. My macbook OS is OSX 10.4.11. All software updated.
if i tried with different machines with Leopard installed, it's recognized.
Does anyone have same problem with me ? What should i do to overcome this issue ?
Please, do not suggest me migrating to Leopard

Ipod classic 2nd generation not recognized on itunes

So i still have an old ipod 2nd gen for windows. though i have a firewire and the mini port on my computer running windows 7, it does not recognize my ipod classic 2nd gen. i am trying to put stuff on it but nothing. any ideas if i need an old version of itunes or what i can do??

things I have done
put Ipod in disk mode still didn't recognized
My Ipod Classic 6th Gen works fine
It shows 3 Mass Storage Device
when I plug in Ipod nano 3rd gen it shows unknow device
have deleted Mass storage devices and Apple Moble Devices
unpluged computer from wall
nothing solving problem
I also tried it on my laptop its not being recognized
my wife Ipod nano is doing the same thing as mine
its got to be the software download from itunes because it has worked on all previous versions.

I have the same problem. My Iphone 4s works fine when docked to PC. PC won't recognize my 3rd Gen Nano. Same goes for my Work PC. They don't recognize it nor will plugging it in to a PC charge it. I have to plug it into wall socket to charge.
I have tried resetting, I have tried downloading newest Itunes.
Must be the Nano itself if it doesn't get recognized by mutliple PCs?
I haven't used the Nano for probably 2 months. Previously it worked fine...
One thing, when docked to my laptop during a reboot/startup, it intially starts to charge the Nano, but once setup is finished it doesn't recognize it any longer...

The most likely culprit is that you have an older version of iTunes. You'll want iTunes 10 and up. To check which version go to the Help Menu in iTunes and click About iTunes. That'll tell you the version. If it's below 10 go back to the Help Menu and check for updates, install the latest version, which 10.2.2
If it is iTunes 10 or later, uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Here's the article that walks you through it.

My ipod was working fine until a couple months ago. Now whenever I hook up the ipod to the computer I get an error message saying an ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. I've tried restarting the computer, deinstalling & reinstalling new iTunes, but to no avail. Help!

In same boat. Mine wont even charge. Now fully dead. I have a number of different USB sources. Ipod doesn't recognize it is plug in.
Ever since I got ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.
But trying to solve my problem Found most people solved there issue with holding on/off and sleep buttons at same time for few seconds to reboot. Didn't work for me.

This could either be a conflict with the iPod's docking port, the iPod's USB sync cable, or even the USB port you are plugging the iPod into on your PC. So the first thing I would try and do is plug the iPod into a different USB port on your PC. Make sure it's a high powered USB 2.0 port as they provide a higher power throughput than older USB ports or even the ones that are sometimes available on the front of the tower.
It might help to disconnected all other USB devices from the PC (minus the keyboard and mouse) and reboot the PC. Then reconnect the iPod once again.
If still no luck, swap out the cable with another known working cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged or faulty cable.
Lastly, plug the iPod into another PC to see if it's recognized there. If the same error appears on another machine, it's likely a hardware issue with the Nano meaning you'll want to have it serviced or replaced.

Ive had my black iPod nano 2nd generation for quite a bit of time now, the iPods screen wouldnt come on one day but iTunes acsepted it and so i restored it. The screen was still off and so now im here asking, Please help, Thanks!

I have purchased a windows 7, 64 bit laptop. I have a 2nd generation iPod Nano if I download the 64 bit version of iTunes will this cause problems with compatibility between my laptop, iTunes version 10.1 and the 2nd generation iPod Nano?
