IPod nano 4G completely dead? Already?

Hi,
yesterday I did some running with my new iPod Nano 4G -which a bought a couple of months ago- and the Nike+ sensor. Suddenly, the iPod fell accidentaly on the road and didn't do anything anymore since then! I'm a bit surprised, as this is the first time this iPod fell (I dropped my old iPod 3G countless times in the past and it never stopped working). Isn't there any procedure I can follow to get it working again? My PC doesn't detect the iPod neither anymore..
Thanks in advance..

Okay, finally managed to get it working. Kinda.
Basically, what happens is that I'm able to do play one song. As soon as the iPod goes idle (i.e. locks, holding the 'play' button to try and go into standby, etc.) it freezes up and nothing else is possible.
If I want to do anything again, I have to reset it with the menu and centre buttons. But then it becomes a case of rinse and repeat the above.

how can i download music from my computer to my ipod nano without erasing music already there?

If the music you are wanting to have on your iphone was purchased through itunes you can then go to your front display to settings>itunes and app store from there you have a toggled switch that allows you to automatically download music and apps by toggling the switch. You will need to toggle the switch below these switchs that allows for cellular data to be enabled if this has not already been enabled. This then will automatically download music and apps directly to your device with no additional charge to you.
    Good luck.

I would contact Apple directly and have them work with to get the iPod shipped to a new/different address.

Wife just got an iPod Nano...I already have my iPod Classic set to my iTunes account on my laptop... Can I connect her Nano to my laptop without anything happening?

You should be able to, I mean I have a iPod Touch 5th Genertion, and a iPod Nano 5th generation. Works perfectly fine for me for the both of them, it should for you.

  • IPod 4th Gen completely dead

iPod 4th Gen completely dead and will not appear in iTunes. iTunes works perfectly fine with other devices.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
However, ou may have a hardware problem like a dead battery and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.

  • IPod Nano 5th Generation dead and gone forever? Tried every restart method possible

(skip to second paragraph if you want to get straight to the point)
Let me start out saying, my ipod is my everything. Yes I'm pathetic.
Anyway, this is my third iPod and my third nano. I bought it used because the news ones look annoying. But it was from a reliable seller and it worked/looked like new. I have had it for many months. Anyway, I have a bad habit of sleeping with it. I try to take it out before I doze off, but eh sometimes I forget. So this morning I wake up with it still in my ears and I take it out and accidently drop it (happens all the time to be honest). Wasn't a long or hard drop though. I go back to sleep, and wake up in an hour and plug it to my charger (like always). I go to add some more songs to it on my computer a few hours later and it won't even turn on.
The screen was blank and it wouldnt turn on at all. I plugged it into my computer, and iTunes didnt even recognize it. So having had an ipod nano for years, of course the first thing I did was restart it. And restart it. And restart it. With no results at all. It had been on the charger for hours, so it couldnt be dead. Anyway, I still let it charge with a blank screen. I googled loads on how to get it to start, and finally just tried messing with buttons. While it was plugged in to the computer, I pressed down menu and center (like you would to restart it) but for an abnormally long time. I am talking 2 minutes. And finally the computer recognized it. It asked to restore it and my heart sank because I have stuff on my ipod (200 songs) that were never backed up to my computer. And I dont know all 200 songs...ugh. Anywhooo...The screen said "Do not disconnect" but it looked older like the old nano's "do not disconnect" screen. And I let it restore, but it wouldnt? I forget why it said it couldnt (something mounted?) but it led me to a page that didnt help at all.
I unplugged it and it froze on that "do not disconnect" screen and so I tried several more times to restart it and do what I had just done previously (hoping it would restore), but it still just froze. I let it die out. Came back to it in 6 hours, and tried playing with it some more. I attempted to restart it about 8 more times and finally after holding down those buttons until my fingers calused, there was hope. The screen read "Connect to Charger" and it was the new modern looking screen message and image. I did as it told me, and connected to my iHome charger, but ugh it died out and it wouldnt restart. Came back to it in a hour and tried to restart it and finally I saw that lovely apple logo. And yep thats all I saw. It froze like that. And ten minutes later died out.
At this point I have a feeling there is no hope for it, but any tips would be lovely. Even a way to revover that lost music. Its not on my computer. I was dumb to put it straight on my ipod and not in my itunes library. Thank you for reading through this novel. Any help would be apprectiated.

I have the same iPod Nano and when it freezes, I press the menu and center button at the same time until the Apple logo apears. That should wake up your iPod Nano. Also, make sure the lock is off.

  • My iPod nano never completely turns off.....

I will wait until a song ends or I will push pause and then hold down the play button. It turns off. But I will leave it like that for 3 days and I will click play and it will turn right back on like I just turned it off. What I am trying to say is that it is like it is always on standby and it never shows the Apple Logo when turned back on. Is there a setting to this? My brother's iPod nano (1st Gen) and my sister's iPod video 60GB always turns completely off after 12 hours. So after 12 hours on their iPods you click play and the Apple sign shows and then turns on. But mine never does that. Can anyone understand what I am trying to say? Any help?
    Thanks!

"But I will leave it like that for 3 days and I will click play and it will turn right back on like I just turned it off."
Mine is the same. See this about "hibernation".

Although it says after a period of inactivity of 14 hours or more, when you turn it on again you should see the Apple logo, mine almost always resumes from where it left off unless it's not been used for a long time.
The power is still conserved so I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Please Help!  My iPod Mini is completely dead :(

    Hello,
I went to use my mini yesterday and it's completely dead. It won't power up, it won't charge (via both wall outlet or my USB port).
    What should I do???

    Hey All,
I was in San Francisco last week and stopped in @ the apple store to see if they could help. I explained my situation. The store employee plugged in my ipod and to my surprise it worked. i have no idea what happened. The store employee was at a loss as well. Bottom line though, we both figured my mini needed a new battery. So, I have ordered a new battery.
I guess this proves that old ipods never die...they are just a little harder to wake up

  • Ipod gen 4 completely dead

One day 2 weeks ago, my ipod was "low battery" so I plugged it in to charge, I noticed about 20 minutes later the screen displayed a 'disabled' message saying "iPod disabled, Try again in 22 000 000 minutes". Now I can't get it to charge or do anything the screen is completely dead. Someone please help!!!!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • Ipod nano screen completely messed up

I've noticed recently that my Ipod nano screen has become totaly messed up, i can only see the top half of it,where it says Music, Photos, etc. and even that is all deteriorated, whilst the bottom almost look's like a barcode. Although i can still listen to music, volume is inacessible.
Could some one please help me on this, i just got this recently by winning it from a local radio station and I dearly love it, help would be appreciated.
PS: this is not something physicly on the screen or the result of a scratched screen, it's the actual inside, where the song information etc. is viewed.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You might want to try this link:
Resetting iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond
According to the Tech Specs (http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html) Windows 98 isn't supported - could that be the answer?
    Windows system requirements
    * PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
    * Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

  • Ipod nano didnt completely restore

i really need help! see, i restored my nano, but i have a feeling it didn't completely restore, because i tried to connect it back up to itunes after restoring it. but itunes didn't recognize the ipod. so i re-read the restoring process and it turns out that i probably didn't even finish restoring it! i only completed stage 1 of the restoring process, and i most likely skipped stage 2. so i'm wondering if any one has some advice for me??? what should i do if my ipod is only half-restored, as i fear, and it won't even show up on itunes?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I NEED YOUR ADVICE!

Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
    Then try the restore again.

  • Help! Ipod nano is completely frozen and nothing works!

Two days ago my ipod completely froze. I tried to reset it but when I plugged it into my computer it said that the device has malfunctioned? ***?!? I cant do anything to it. when I toggle the hold button the little lock symbol doesnt even show up. I tried plugging it into my ihome but that didnt do anything. I cant turn it off and the back light doesnt come on. The battery still hasnt died and its been 2 days I have no idea what to do. Ive tried plugging it into my laptop and my friends computers but it still says the same thing

    i have a 2nd gen nano 4GB,
my daughter has 1st gen nano 1GB.
i've been trying to reset?, restore?, get her's to work.
i charged it overnight on my iHome2go. (plugged in computer, i couldn't tell if it was charging.)
i have two USB cords for both iPods, both cords work with my (2nd gen) nano. i have reviewed all? the different steps to get her's working. i don't believe it's a computer or an iTunes prob. 2nd gen nano is charging and syncing just fine.
her screen had the apple on it before i did the reset steps. when i hit both buttons the apple disappeared. now there is nothing on the screen and no way to know if the battery is charged or if it's working at all. thanks for any help,
