IPod nano 4th gen stuck in dfu mode.

I have a problem with my son's iPod Nano 4th Gen.
When I try to restore the iPod in iTunes it gives the error 1601 and says it doesn't recognise the iPod.
When connected to my laptop without iTunes it says 'usb DFU device'.
I have tried every combination of buttons, before anyone tells me to 'just hold in menu and select'.
I can't get the iPod out of DFU mode to restore. Any help is much appreciated.

  • IPod Nano 4th gen stuck in recovery mode

I have an iPod Nano 4th generation that I got from my sister. It worked fine the other day when I got it, and I restored it to my iTunes account with no issues. A day later, I try to turn it on and the screen stays black. I plugged it into my laptop (Windows XP) to restore, and it tells me it needs to be prepared for recovery. I click OK and the iPod beeps 4 times. It goes through the restore process just to do the same thing again. I tried it on another computer (Windows 7) at home and a Mac at work. Nothing works, it just beeps and stays in the recovery loop. I've tried everything I can find online- the 5 R's, changing the drive letter, formatting it, disabling antivirus software, etc. None of it works. I can't even boot the iPod into the diagnostics menu.

  • IPod Nano 3rd Gen stuck in diag mode

I have an iPod Nano 3rd Gen stuck in diag mode. I have reset it multiple time using the select button and the menu button with it pluged in to the wall, into the computer and not plugged in at all. I reset it using the reset option under power and nothing. Please, can someone help?
    Thanks

OK.  My first time seeing this thread so hopefully you'll share your success results with me.
    Here is the issue:
    1) iPod Nano 5th gen stuck in Diags Ver: N33GreatDane2A45bp
    2) When I rest by choosing Reset from the Diags Power sub-Menu it boots and brings up the white Apple logo and back to Diags menu
    3) If I reset by holding down Menu button and Center button, same thing happens: Apple logo followed by Diags menu (It flashes iPod Display Console)
    4) So I am always stuck in this loop.
    5) Can't restore from iTunes since the iPod is never recognized in iTunes.
    Thoughts anyone?

  • Ipod nano 4th gen stuck on apple logo even after restore

okay, i have an ipod nano 4th gen. it gets stuck on the boot logo, (apple logo) every time it tries to restart. i have rebooted, gone into the diagnostics, put it into disk mode, and even restored from there. the computer doesnt recognize the ipod unless in disk mode and no matter how many times i restore or reboot, it does the same thing every time. stuck. please help

Since you have the "exact" same problem, why don't you do any of the following:
If you have AppleCare and/or still under warranty, give them a call.  If not, take your iPod to your local Apple Store or AASP.  Let them properly diagnose the problem and provide you w/a repair estimate.
U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)
Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • IPod Nano 4th Gen - Stuck on Apple logo

After not using my iPod Nano (4th Gen. 4GB) for about 4 months, I try to turn it on to find it isn't responding. I figured it was completely dead, so I plug it into my computer to see an Apple logo appear on the screen, and I leave it to charge for about an hour. After charging, my computer still didn't register any usb device. When I disconnected it was stuck on the apple logo. After waiting for a while it was still on Apple logo.
So, I did some reading and put it into disk mode. Once in disk mode it was recognized by my computer, and I promptly restored it. After it was restored I reset the iPod. But, again it was still stuck at the Apple logo screen.
I have repeated this process three times, and each time I reset it after restoring in disk mode, the iPod is stuck at the Apple logo screen.
Any ideas as to why it is doing this?

his is not operating system-specific, but I want to get it on the record somewhere since I could not find the solution anywhere else.
Last week, my third-generation 30GB iPod refused to go beyond the Apple logo on startup. It would power up, flash as if trying to go to the menu, but instead it would just show the Apple again. I tried all the usual recovery methods: resetting (hundreds of times and a couple of different ways), disk scans from the diagnostic menu, restoring with the latest iPod software and with an older version, fsck, using Disk Utility to repair and erase, Disk Warrior, letting the battery drain, everything.
Nothing worked ... until I used Disk Utility to reformat the disk with the "Zero Out Data" option (in the Security pop-up) enabled. This, apparently, reformatted the drive in such a way as to account for bad sectors. It took about an hour.
After that, I restored it with the latest iPod software, and to my delight, it booted normally. It now works fine.
Found that on web mite help you.... but i dont have a mac

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen stuck in recovery mode, no error message!

I have an iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode. It has a picture of a usb cord pointing to the iTunes symbol. When I plug it into a computer it says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." So i did. After it had finished it came up with that message again! Also I've tried using DFU mode and it didn't work. Suggestions?

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

  • IPod nano 4th gen stuck on White Screen of Death

So recently my iPod of 4 years has gotten the white screen of death.
I tried doing the restarting. You know. hold the on/off button then hold MENU and SELECT. Nothing. It just blinks the white screen off and then on.
Interest to note: I use my ipod nano in the shower (with dock). Maybe the steam from the shower had something to do with it?
    Anyway, thank you.

I should note that I CAN still use this ipod. I can play songs on it EVEN while my screen is white. Also, when I plug it into my Win7 (32-bit), the iTunes (latest version 1.0.4) recgonizes my ipod and play the songs/playlist from it.

  • Ipod nano 4th gen stuck on apple logo (still) after restore

HELP! I tried to turn on my ipod the other day but it wouldn't work - it was stuck on the apple logo screen.
    I have tried:
    - resetting it
    - letting it run out of battery completely then turning it back on again
    - restoring it
but none of these methods worked. It is still stuck on the apple logo screen! So therefore I can't listen to music, and my laptops don't recognise my ipod... because it isn't on properly. The only way I can get laptops to recognise that my ipod is plugged in is by putting my ipod in disk mode.
and so it is still stuck on the apple logo screen. Anybody have any ideas? I have no idea what else to try.
    thanks so much in advance!

i have tried all of that as well and im still stuck on the apple logo. i hit it against a table and everything. Does anyone know what to do?

  • IPod Nano 4th Gen Stuck on Hold

I recently dropped my iPod in a cup, that barely had any water. However, there was enough to soak the top bezel, and the hold switch. The iPod was functioning normally for 2 days, before I realized the hold switch did not work. I kept on unlocking and locking it, until my iPod was finally on hold. Unfortunately, that's when I realized that I had permanently stuck my iPod on hold. I know that this is a hardware issue, so please do not tell me to reset/restore my iPod. I also do not have an Apple Retail Store, nearby, so the warranty is out of the picture. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance

sorry i mean the lock icon is still there if i turn off hold

  • IPod nano 4th gen - Apple Mobile Device Driver issue

I have an iPod Touch that connects and syncs perfectly with iTunes but I can't find any way of doing the same with my wife's iPod Nano(4th gen).
Whenever I connect the nano it appears under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as Apple Mobile Device USB Driver but with the dreaded Yellow Exclamation mark.
    I've tried:
    The 5Rs
    Different cables
    Different ports
    Disabling drivers
    Uninstalling drivers
Removing all Apple software (in the correct order) and reinstalling
The only error message I get, other than the Exclamation Mark, is when I check the Driver Properties, it shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
If I click on Properties, Driver and Update Driver, Install from specific location I see:
Apple iPod USB Driver Version 6.0.9999.40 (12/11/2008) and
Apple iPod USB Driver Version 6.0.9999.61 (11/05/2012) and
    USB Mass Storage Device
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can try?

The code 10 might be caused by old driver componentry "stuck" in the bowels of your OS. If that's what is going on, we might be able to get past this ... but I'm afraid it's a bit of a performance.
First, go into "My Computer". Go "Tools > Folder Options". Go to the view tab.
Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Make sure "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is unchecked.
Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in "My Computer", open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your Operating System is installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
    Open the "DRVSTORE" folder.
In there look to see if you have either of the following two folders:
    netaapl_(LongStringOfNumbers)
    usbaapl_(LongStringOfNumbers)
If you find either of them, drag them out onto the desktop. (Don't touch any other files or folders you see in there.)
Now go back into the "system32" directory.
    Open the "Drivers" directory.
Look for either of the following two files:
    netaapl.sys
    usbaapl.sys
If you see either of them in there, drag them out onto the desktop. (Again, don't touch any other files or folders you see in there.)
Now restart the PC. Try a complete uninstall/reinstall of itunes and related components as per the following document:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
... and then try connecting the nano again. Any better luck this time?

  • Plugging Ipod nano(4th gen) in for the first time... Help

I have the ipod nano 4th gen. I plugged it into the computer for the first time, and itunes comes up. It then says you can register now or later I just clicked later(I am actually doing this for my sister, I have and ipod touch that I did the same with) But anyways, I clicked register later, and then it tells me that I have to Read and agree to the software(or something on that order) So I read through all of that and at the end, there is a box you can check to say that you have read and agreed. I did that, but then you have to click a button to confirm/continue im guessing. Well, my problem is, that my computer screen is too small for me to see the button, in other words, I cant confirm/continue and am stuck there, I cant do anything else with the ipod with out continuing this step. I have tried to Maxamize the screen and dragging over. nothing seems to work.
Is there any other day to agree and confirm to this? If there isn't, is there a way that I can get to the confirm/continue button?

    I changed my screen resolution to 1024 x 768,
yet I still cannot see the confirm/continue option.
I have tried all screen resolutions,
and I'm not able to see the button.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    I really need to know,
because I need to use my iPod.

I have a problem with the headset of my ipod nano 4th gen. the right side don't have a sound. It comes in and out.  what do I need to do.. I am using the original headset eversince. I tool it to a Apple Mac Cennter and Taked with a Service Center Rep. And he told me that they can't do anything because they don't repair the ipod they didn;t even look at it. I was told instead to buy a new one. I was very disappointed.. This is already my 5th ipod though i am planning to buy a new one.. I still want it fixed so I can give it to my little sister

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.
