Ipod nano 4th not recognized by itunes or windows

Okay so I have had my iPod Nano 4th generation since it like came out. Recently it has been odd turning off on its own and this morning i turned it on and then put it to sleep. It kept flashing in between asleep and awake. Then I bought new music on iTunes so I wanted to sync it. I connected it to iTunes and it wasn't recognized by iTunes or by my computer (lenovo g500 windows 8) so I uninstalled iTunes updated my computer turned on and off the apple and ipod services and then restarted and tryed reconnecting. after that i deleted the temp file. Ugh I have done every **** thing on the apple support thing and nothing has worked. Please help me.

My ipod nano is not recognized in itunes on my computer, when it has in the past. How do I fix this problem?

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

    Hi there,

  • TS1363 My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  Is this repairable?

My sons iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes, or windows.  I have tried a variety of options, even resetting, but still no luck.

What does the iPod's screen say or do, when you connect it to USB port on the computer?
The article referenced is for "regular" iPods.  An iPod touch is an iOS computer, so this article would be more appropriate for troubleshooting.

Be sure to rule out a faulty USB cable as the cause.  Try another cable, or try the cable you have with another device that has a dock connector.
Also, you should do this test to rule out a problem with the USB port (such as lack of power or USB device conflict).  Shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices, including any hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).
Then, start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.  If it still does not connect, connect something else to the same USB port to confirm it is working.  Preferably, use something similar, such as a USB flash drive or external drive.

  • IPod Nano 6gen not recognized by iTunes using a Mac, have tried all the tips.

I've tried all of the tips on the site, nothing seems to work.  My Mac (OS X 10.6.8) can see the device and my iTunes updates as normal on other devices but the nano suddenly isn't seen by iTunes.  I've reset the settings, checked the USB, nothing seems to work. I'm also getting an error message that says Mac OS X can't repair the disk, its telling me to backup and reformat.  The resetting on the device should take care of this but it doesn't, the device is empty.  All software is up to date.  Any ideas?

Which ones?  Have you tried this one - iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac desktop?
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.

  • Ipod nano is not recognized by itunes.  it is also locked and no password known

Ipod Nano 4th generation (the slim colored one) - the screen is locked - didn't set a passcode.  Also will not sync with itunes so can't reset that way.  When plugged into computer cycles between being 'connected' to the black Apple screen.  I have Windows Vista.  Works with other ipods registered.  This is the original computer for the troubled ipod.  Please respond with any possible solutions.

    Hi Tonia,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.
Click on the link to see more details and screenshots.
iPod: How to use the Screen Lock
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1350
    Unlocking iPod
You can unlock iPod in one of two ways:
Enter the combination on iPod using the same controls you used to set the combination. If you do not enter the correct combination, the digits onscreen flash red. When you enter the combination correctly, iPod will unlock and return you to the last viewed screen.
Connect iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.
If you can't unlock iPod using either of these methods, you can restore your iPod to factory settings. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to iPod.

  • Ipod nano will not appear in itunes or windows, but my 30gb does

My wife has a 30gb ipod and that connects to itunes without any problems. I have a ipod nano (4th gen) and I cannot get it to be recognized by itunes or in windows. I have reset it, but it still does not come up to sync up. What should I do here?

What version of iTunes is on your computer?

  • IPod nano (6gen) not recognized in iTunes

Before I recently upgraded too osx 10.6.5 and itunes 10.1 I had no problems syncronizing my ipod (6th generation) with itunes. Immediatly after doing it my problem started. Strangely enough my iPhone shows up and syncronizes, and if I connect my same ipod nano to my other computer (macbook) the ipod nano shows up in itunes. My iPod nano is recognized in finder.
I have tried to follow different troubleshooting-instructions given by apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410). I have tried resetting the ipod, reinstalled itunes, restarting the computer, downgrading itunes (didnt work because of library was in 10.1), switching usb port and using differant cable. I have also tried to connect another iPod nano (6th generation) to my computer, but it does not show up - just like my own.
My computer is a Mac Pro, but it think is strange that it should have anything to do with this, when it worked before - and it is only a problem for ipod nano a and not iphone. I have all software upgrades neseccary.
After hours of troubleshooting I now hope any of you guys have any help to offer me. I would appreciate very much!

    Dear torkildsen,
Please obtain the solution to the matter at the below.
    1. Reset your iPod.
    2. Retry with a different USB or FireWire port. (To verify whether your iPod syncs via FireWire or USB, see the table in the Additional Information section below.)
    3. Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
    4. Remove iTunes from your /Applications folder. Then reinstall the latest version of iTunes software.
    5. Restore your iPod using another Mac that is able to recognize it. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” in the user's guide.
Or you can use other backup software to transfer iPod contents to iTunes or computer. Follow this reviews about [how to transfer music/videos/photos from iPod/iPhone to Mac?|http://www.softwarebbs.com/wiki/IPod/iPhone/iPadTo_Computer_Transfer_%26_Backup_SoftwareReviews] It includes the transferring of music, photos, videos, SMS, Contact ect. between iPod/iPhone/iPad and computer(PC or Mac).
    Have a good luck.

  • My iPod nano is not recognized by iTunes

Whenever I try to connect my iPod nano (6th generation) to iTunes, an error message pops up that says "an iPod has been detected but it was not recognized" can anyone help me figure out how to fix that? I just got new music that I would love to sync to my iPod so your help would be greatly appreciated!

Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • Tried all suggestions, iPod Nano still not recognized by iTunes

My iPod refuses to show up as a source in iTunes. This is the only possible conclusion I can make, given I've tried each of the following steps:
    1. Re-setting the iPod.
    2. Restoring the iPod.
    3. Restarting the iPod service.
    4. Re-installing iTunes (after removing it, emptying trash, removing iTunes updaters, emptying temp folders)
    5. Clean up iTunes installer files using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
    6. Disabling conflicting System Services and Startup Items.
None worked. At an impasse, I took the iPod into the Genius Bar at San Francisco’s Apple Store. The resident genius looked at the iPod, plugged it into his Mac and VOILA, it was recognized by iTunes. He erased the contents anyway, and told me to plug it into my PC at home and it would be recognized by iTunes.
Sure enough, he was right. It was recognized by iTunes. . .but only until it told me that the iPod needed to be formatted to work in Windows, since the Apple Store restoration was done on a Mac. (Mind you, prior to this problem starting a few months ago, the iPod never had trouble working with Windows.) The next instruction was to restore the iPod, after which “iPod will show up in the Source list of iTunes.”
My hopes were up. . . .Finally, I would be able to use my iPod again!!
Except no. No dice. The PC recognizes it as an iPod. When I plug it in, iTunes launches. When I plug in my girlfriend’s iPod into my PC, it shows up in the source list of my iTunes. When I plug my iPod into my girlfriends’s PC, it does not show up in the Source list, even though other iPods do show up in her iTunes.
It just won’t show up as a Source in iTunes on any PC. This seems like an issue with my iPod, not my PC.
I’m frustrated as ****. Anybody seen this happen before? Any ideas on how to make it work?

I've finally got it to SYNC with my iTune! YAY!!
I've done so many of the things you listed I'm sure what really fixed it.
I reset the ipod nano itself by pressing and holding down the pause and play button.
I also moved the USB connection to a different USB connection on the back of my computer.
I opened the "My Computer" window and right-clicked on my ipod, and then selected "Format". I select "Yes" to format since I don't have anything on the nano to delete anymore.
I then Eject my nano from the computer and did a restart while the nano is disconnected from the computer.
Once Windows finish loading I reconnect the USB to the nano(back of computer) which automatically pulls up iTune. It asked me to name the new ipod detected and created a playlist for that specific ipod name.
Whew~ Took me 4 hours to fix it. I hope this helps others in their quest to their answers. :P
