IPod Nano 5G Backlight Remains On

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano, and recently bought new headphones that have an in-line mic/remote. They work fine with my phone, but when plugged into my ipod the screen's backlight remains on indefinitely, and the click wheel stops functioning properly. Is this gen of ipod not compatible with headphones that have a remote and mic, or is there some solution I'm not aware of?

Does the Nano function properly again when you remove the headphones? If so, then that points at an issue with the headphones and not the device.  I'm not sure if they are imcompatible, but there is something the Nano doesn't like.

  • IPod nano 7 - backlight details

On the iPod Nano 6th generation you couldn't choose to have the backlight on constantly or adjust the backlight. Will this be a feature in the 7th gen?

I have the same question.  The backlight appears to be preset with an un-adjustable time-on/ time off feature.  The only method I have discovered to shorten the backlight time is to push the on/off button quickly and the backlight goes out and the music stays on.  I don't see any method other than touching the screen to keep the light on.  Not the most convenient method.

  • IPod Nano 5G Backlight Never Turns Off!

I recently got a new iPod Nano 5G for Christmas and when I set the backlight to 2 seconds it never turns off! So the battery ends up draining completely. Another problem is the battery drains really fast. If anyone can help me I would gladly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

  • IPod nano 6th backlight out.

My ipod nano went through the wash and now the backlight doesnt work. it connects to itunes and can still play through the 3.5 but the backlight is screwed. i can still make out the screen at the right angle of light. is there anyway to fix this?

You can check http://www.ifixit.com to see if they have any screens available, if you don't want to do it yourself you can try http://www.iresq.com. Or take it to an Apple Store and see if they have an out-of - warranty replacement cost.

  • Fix Ipod nano 4g backlight?

My ipod nano 4g went through the wash and now the backlight isn't working. It still plays my music and I can kind of tell where it's at by memory and if i hold it up to the light I can see the text just barely. How can I fix this?

  • IPod nano won't remain on

My iPod nano charges fully and works fine whilst connected to a power source but when the AC supply is removed my iPod cuts out and doesn't work!?

The mostly likely cause is the battery being worn out and not holding the charge when disconnected from power.  You can try doing a Restore on the iPod, in case the cause is software-related, but it is probably the battery.
If the iPod is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.

  • My 4th generation ipod nano backlight no longer working. Any suggestions

My 4th or 5th generation ipod nano backlight is no longer working.  Any suggestions?

    Hi grecokev,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
You mention that your iPod nano is no longer recognized by iTunes after an update. Reinstalling iTunes is a good troubleshooting step, and if the device still doesn't appear in iTunes, try the following steps next:
Turn off your computer and your iOS device or iPod, then turn them on again.
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.
You can find these steps in this troubleshooting article:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
If the steps above don't solve it, see the section of the article called "Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed" for some additional steps to try on your PC.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I accidentally press Off  the Backlight in my 3rd generation  iPod Nano, how can I turn On the Backlight again?

I accidentally press Off the Backlight in my 3red generation iPod Nano, how can I turn it On again? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

What do you mean you turned off the backlight?  How did you do that?
Have you tried a hard reset to see if that takes care of it?  To this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • I have a iPod nano 3rd generation. I accidentally turned off the backlight so there is no screen showing

What are the steps to go to the backlight in settings and turn it on?

The screen is still showing.  If you bring the iPod near a bright light, or shine a flashlight on it, you will be able to read the screen with no backlight.
On my 5th gen iPod nano, it is

  • IPod nano backlight

I just got the new video iPod nano a couple days ago (love it!), but when I hook it up to my computer, the backlight never turns off... I had it plugged in all night last night, and when I woke up this morning, the thing was still burning. My old nano's backlight used to turn off after a certain amount of time plugged in. The backlight doesn't stay on when I'm listening to music -- I have it set to turn off after 10 seconds; it only does this when it's hooked up to the computer! Is there any way to fix this??

I would like to know this as well. There is absolutely nothing important for the screen to tell me when it's plugged in but 'Connected', yet the screen just stays on. Surely it'd recharge faster and also conserve backlight life if it would turn off, I know my cell phone charges faster with the screen off.

  • New ipod nano 6th generation used 3 times. Screen remains black despite a full reset. Something special to do ?

Hi, I just bought a new ipod nano and used it 3 times. Today it did not work and I first believed that the battery was too low. I connected the device to the mac. Sync worked well and charge indicator as well. Nevertheless, the screen remained black. I therefore tried to reset the device and after the resetting, the screen remains as black as before. Any solution ? thanks and regards

If it does not get enough juice from the USB port, it will not charge.
You should NOT connect it to a USB hub. Connect it directly to the computer. If you use a desktop computer, use one of the ports on the back, not one on the front, which tend to be lower power.
You say you are using a macbook, which tend to be better about power. Make sure you don't have any settings that turn off power to the usb ports when the computer goes to sleep. Check your power settings in the settings screen.
