Ipod Nano 5G Microphones

Hello-
I am looking to capture lectures using an Ipod with mic attachment. Does anyone have any experience with microphone attachments for the 5th Gen. Nano? Will the Nano accept input with a mic plugged into the headphone jack?
Thanks
JB

No experience using a mic attachment. The iPod's own mic works well for me sitting in the 3rd row at church to catch the sermons just in case I fall asleep.
According to an article I found through a Google search:
+"If you’re hoping to use the nano 5G to record lectures, say, we’d recommend an external microphone which should manage better range and clarity.."+
http://www.slashgear.com/ipod-nano-5g-video-review-1456341/
If you have a mic attachment, visit an apple store & test it on an iPod Nano 5th gen or get confirmation from Apple by calling them.

  • Microphone for new iPod nano?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a microphone you can buy for the new iPod Nano? I record a lot of acoustic music and need to get it into my iTunes Library. I'd rather not carry my iBook around.
    Thanks
Aluminum iPod Nano, iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

the new nanos can do recording - the old ones cant.
im confused, is this nano your speaking about the
black glossy one?, cuase if it is the microphone
    is
not compatible with it is it?
the new nanos are the 2 generation of the old ones, only apple snatched the samsung glossy nanos since they had the patent and jumped on it at that quarter year, yes seccess story.
But as i remember, they all record yet apple never provided a microphone solution for them., and the older iPods all have accesories like mics etc etc. and all the new iPods do not, or maybe the 30 and 60 gigs do but are very expensive.
Can anyone confirm how to record on a nano and what mics to get?

  • Built-in microphone only works when phone is connected to iPod nano cable

Hi, I got an iPhone yesterday but the microphone doesn't work properly. I have figured out that the built-in microphone will only work when I connect the dock cable from a second generation iPod nano. The cable that comes with the iPhone does not work. The supplied handsfree earbuds work correctly at all times.
The strangest part of the problem is that the iPod dock cable doesn't have to be connected to my computer!
I'll state the problem again. Let's say I make a phone call. The person on the other end cannot hear anything I say, but I can hear them. Then I plug in the dock cable from a second generation iPod nano, and the other person can then hear me. Unplug the cable and they can not hear me.
I have tried restoring the iPhone three times, turned it on and off, and inserted and removed the headphone plug many times. These actions do nothing. *The only way I can talk on my phone is if I insert the dock connector from my old iPod!*

    Take it back.....

  • Ipod nano 6th: no voice recorder despite headphones with microphone

    Hi there!
I have got an ipod nano 6th that is working ok, but when I use my headset with microphone, the voice recorder app still does not show up. It can't be the headphones as 1) I have tried several ones with microphones on the nano and none makes the app appear, 2) the very same headphones manage to trigger appearence of voice recorder in other ipods. So it must me my ipod nano. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences? BTW: it used to work in the past on this nano...so no idea why it stopped.
    Thanks!
    Bettina

    Hello Bettina,
I would be concerned too if the Voice Memos app stopped appearing on my iPod nano.  I found some steps I recommend to troubleshoot an issue like this.
First, I recommend verifying that the Voice Memos icon is set to be visible on your iPod nano.  If you go to Settings>General>Home Screen, make sure you see the switch set to On next to Voice Memos. You can find more information about this on page 15 in the iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide.
If you are still not able to see the Voice Memo icon after verifying that, I recommend resetting your iPod nano (from page 52 of the iPod nano User Guide):
    Reset iPod nano:
First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The final step would be to restore your iPod nano if Voice Memos is still not appearing.  You can find steps to do this on page 56 of the User Guide.
You can find the iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide here:

  • IPod nano 4 GB Green (2nd Generation) microphone!!!

hi. i have an Apple iPod nano 4 GB Green (2nd Generation) and i need a mic for it, i don't know if it support the Mic or not, can anyone give me some light about that please..thanx

To my knowledge, Apple were originally going to release the new Nano 4G in both 4GB & 8GB models. However, to coincide with the release of a memory upgrade on Microsoft's new Zune products, Apple made a 16GB model just before the release date.
Therefore, this explains why it took them so long to get their 16GB models shipped and these 4GB models are what they made up until they decided to scrap that idea and only release the 8GB & 16GB models.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPod nano 7th gen (brand new) doesn't recognize Headphones

I have a brand new iPod nano (7th gen), and it doesn't detect when headphones are plugged in. I have read that the problem can ocurr because the headphones are not correctly inserted or that the headphone jack has dust inside. As i always do on a regular basis with mp3 devices, i cleaned out the jack to be sure
    This is what happens:
When music is not playing i hear a crackle pop sound every 2 seconds or so. My headphones are perfectly fine and work with my Samsung galaxy s4 and my old iPod touch, and my brothers iPhone. Just don't work with iPod nano. I have 3 pairs of headphones all which do not work but I do not have the original headphones. they are so uncomfortable and seems unfair to me that apple would have a one size fits al headphone that only works with the device. I do not intend on switching.
When I play a song, and then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the display, the music stops. Or if I let the music play, it stops when the screen times out and turns off. These two things occur because the iPod "thinks" that there are no headphones inserted.
When I try to activate the FM radio, the radio won't start because it says that there is no radio signal (which occurs when no headphones are connected).
Needless to say, the microphone and volume controls of the iPhone headset, don´t work at all (they even work on the iPod shuffle!).. and because of this, no voice recording for me!
I have also restored the device in iTunes, and updated with no luck.....
Thanks in advance for any useful answer!
    iPod nano

First, make sure the headphones plug is completely inserted into the nano's headphones jack.  It should "click" into place.  The fit may be tighter than expected, especially when new.  There is a sensor in there, and if the plug is not completely inserted, you may get some sound, but the nano will not "sense" the headphones.
If that is not the problem, you should have the nano looked at under warranty.  It should work with any standard headphones. If there is an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar and take it there.

  • Why does the 7th generation ipod nano not have games

I want to know why the 7th generation ipod nano does not come with:
    1- games
    2- voice memo

    1. The iPod Nano runs the Pixi operating system, not iOS and has too small a screen for displaying the game and controlling it.
    2. Plug in a headset with a microphone: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipod_nano_user_guide.pdf page 46.
    3. Ignore the answer from AppleRulesTheWorld

  • Does the ipod nano can record sounds?

Does the iPod nano can record sounds connecting "headphones with microphone"?

    Hi uptight,
Yes, the iPod Nano does support MP4 files.
You can find more information about the files the iPod supports here: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
You can convert many videos right from iTunes. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211 will walk you through the process with sample files.

  • IPod nano 6th gen (brand new) doesn't recognize when headphones are plugged in

I have a brand new iPod nano (6th gen), and it doesn't detect when headphones are plugged in. I have read that the problem can ocurr because the headphones are not correctly inserted (which is not the case.. i'm absolutely sure about this) or that the headphone jack has dust inside (which is also not the case, since it is brand new).
    This is what happens:
When i play a song, and then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the display, the music stops. Or if i let the music play, it stops when the screen times out and turns off. These two things occur because the ipod "thinks" that there are no headphones inserted.

Needless to say, the microphone and volume controls of the iphone headset, don´t work at all (they even work on the ipod shuffle!).. and because of this, no voice recording for me!
It's a shame, because the FM radio is completely useless, and music playing only works by activating the "double click to play" option in the settings menu.. but it is somewhat cumbersome the process of "play music - turn off the screen - double click to resume playing" every time I select a song.
The headphone detection has only worked randomly when the ipod is connected to the computer, but i haven't been able to figure out under what conditions this occurs. I have read about this issue, and I only would like to know if this is a firmware bug of the 1.2 version. I tried unsuccesfully to downgrade the firmware to the 1.1 version (maybe because the ipod shipped with the 1.2 version).
I have also restored the device in itunes, with no luck.....
Thanks in advance for any useful answer!

    Thanks for your answer...
The headphones that i'm using, are the ones that were included with the iphone 4 (so, they are original).. however this shouldn't be a problem, as the ipod should work fine with whatever headphones i choose to use (sound quality will vary, of course).
The ipod does the same with the headphones that were included in the box, and with every pair of headphones i have used to test, so i'm certain that the ipod has an issue.
I hope that the picture is clear enough.. here you can see that the headphones are fully inserted, and the ipod is not recognizing them.

  • Questions in relation to iPod nano

    Hi,
I have a few questions in relation the 5th generation iPod nano and I was hoping to find answers to them here.
    *Voice Memo*
    1. Are there any limitations imposed on the nano's voice memo functionality?
For instance, does the nano record up to a predetermined number of minutes (say 30 minutes) or until the recording's file size reaches a particular threshold (say 100 MB)?
Is this the case or are you only limited by how much free space you have on the device?
    2. Have people found the built-in mic to be a decent one or have they found themselves needing to purchase an external accessory to enhance the recording's audio quality.
    Radio
This might be a silly questions, but Apple's website states that the latest nano has a built-in FM antenna. Does that mean you cannot get AM radio stations on the device?
    Thanks,

    Hello Infinite Lupe,
    1. Are there any limitations imposed on the nano's voice memo functionality?
Yes. Once the recording has reached the two mark the iPod automatically starts a new recording that again will go for two hours. However, this is limited as well to the amount of space remaining on your iPod as well. For more information see pages 74 - 76 of the iPod's *User Guide* which I provided below.
    2. Have people found the built-in mic to be a decent one or have they found themselves needing to purchase an external accessory to enhance the recording's audio quality.
From my experiences the built-in microphone does just fine whether its being used for recording voice memos or videos.

    Correct.

  • Connecting iPod nano to mic input

I want to use an iPod nano (1st Gen) for an input into a wireless microphone transmitter. I haven't hooked it up yet. My concern is matching the impedance of the mic level input with the output of the iPod. I don't want to just do it without first getting some qualified help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sabir,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The Creative speakers should work with the iPod as long as they have a standard headphone jack. I saw some connections from Creative to the iPod, but they were not rated.

  • IPod Touch and Microphone

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered, but I didn't see a similar question after searching so....
I just purchased the Apple version of "earphones with remote & mic" so I could use it with Skype principally. After plugging it and trying the Echo test, my iPod is giving me the message that it doesn't detect the microphone. I've tried the "voice memo" app and it gives me the same error message. So far, I have power cycled the unit and have reset the unit. Any suggestions? thanks, Scott

Apple has two different products at the $29US price point: the iPhone Stereo Headset which is NOT listed as compatible with 2G touches (just iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic (iPod classic 120GB, iPod nano 4th generation (video), iPod touch 2nd generation, iPod shuffle 3rd and iPhone 3GS)
It would appear that the 'Apple brand iPhone stereo headset' you have is not listed as compatible with a 2G touch.

    Hey there,
There are certain compatible mics for the 2nd Generation iPod. When shopping for one, just make sure to look for the compatibility for the 2nd generation iPod. I provided one option below.
    http://www.amazon.com/XtremeMac-MicroMemo-Digital-Voice-Recorder/dp/B000K5VD2E
Here is the Features Guide for the 2nd generation iPod, which has a section on using a microphone for voice memos(page 43/60). Hope this helps.

  • Ipod Nano 6g for fitness and sport?

    Hello,
My old Ipod Nano 3G just died after many sport sessions (cardio fitness, running, cycling, etc). I must say I was pretty satisfied by that model for such usage.
I'm now considering buying the new 6G nano model and wanted to ask you these few questions:
    - Does the battery dry very fast as I could read already? (the 3G I had was standing several workout sessions of couple of hours without no problems)
    - How easy is to use the touch screen to go to the next song, to increase/decrease volume, to change playlist, ... via the touch screen while running/cycling (especially if the fingers are a bit wet)?
    - Does this Ipod support being remote controlled via the Apple Iphone headset (the one with microphone and remote controls for Ipod)?
    - To protect it against sweat, I plan to use it with an armband with a screen protector. Will the touch screen still be perfectly usable?
    Thanks for your feedback

it's small, has a built in clip and lots of storage (vs shuffle), so is ideal for running.
battery is good, as long as you stop it from playing all night (see the many threads on "can i turn it off") on this forum.
touch screen is not all that easy to use when running as you need to look at it. nano 4g/5g with click wheels are much easier.
volume is easy to change when running as it has dedicated hard buttons.
headphone controls work fine with this one.
it is sensitive to sweat (i've busted 2 running). dont know if touchscreen works thru armbands/protectors - doesnt work with gloves.
to be honest, if you are using armbands/covers etc then you give up much of the advantage of the small form factor/convenience of the 6G, so maybe the 4G/5G is a better option? my 4G is bulletproof and i have treated it like cr@p for a long time.

  • New iPod nano have voice recorder?

Does the new iPod nano have a voice recorder?

Just like the 4th, 5th, 6th, and now 7th generation ipod nanos, when you plug in supported headphones (with a microphone) a new 'app' shows up on the home screen: voice memos this allows you to record audio through the headphones mic. unfortunely, you will have to buy new headphones/earplugs to use this feature.
if you dont want to buy new headphones, you can find external mic's to use instead. the 3.5mm plug must have 4 pins to use the voice memo's feature.
