IPod Nano 5g worthless

After getting an iPod Nano 2g, I was really impressed with the functions and the connectivity it had with iTunes. I loved the play count function, and everything else about it.
I recently bought an iPod Nano 5g, and I consider it worthless junk. It will not sync correctly, giving me a 13019 warning. Even when it did sync correctly it never synched the play counts correctly. I consider this the future of Apple. Worthless. Someone out there want to challenge me on this? Basically this iPod, which is supposed to have a bunch of functionality, is nothing more than an MP3 player that I can get for 20 bucks at Wal-Mart. Unless Apple wants to do something about it, to me Apple has lost a customer forever.

This is most likely a conflict that is occurring on your system. Before going to a reinstall of iTunes and the other apple software, try this:
First, make sure you are connecting the iPod directly to the computer. Do not use a USB hub. Connect only the iPod, your keyboard and your mouse. Then see if the error occurs. If it does not, then there is a conflict happening with one of your other USB devices. You can connect each device one at a time to see which one it is. Look for an updated USB driver for that device. Even if there is not one, reinstall its drivers.
If the problem continues, reinstall iTunes following these directions:

  • Is there a way to revert my 6th generation iPod Nano to version 1.0?

I updated my iPod Nano (6th gen) to version 1.1 when it became available, what, well over a year ago so, it may be too late.
I was estatic when I received my iPod nano and used it all the time...until Apple issued software update 1.1.  Now the thing is worthless to me.  It's a pain to navigate, I cannot put the icons where I want to.  The list goes on.  It sits on my desk gathering dust.
Is there any way, after a year or more and a switch to a different computer, that I can revert this back to version 1.0?

Nevermind.  Apparently, if you have too much music on the device, the iOS doesn't function correctly.  Ran a restore and reloaded the thing with much less music and it works as it should now.

  • Songs Transferred from ITUNES to IPOD NANO don't appear in IPOD NANO

Help. I tried to do something simple: add songs to my ipod nano. Though the songs "appear" in the itunes gui when the ipod symbol is selected, I don't see these songs in my ipod when I eject it.
I have updated itunes (6.0.4.2) and ipod software (1.1.1), and have restored my ipod nano. So with a clean slate, problem still persists. Except now, since I restored my ipod, I have NO songs on it, so it is worthless until I resolve this problem.
I got this ipod nano at Christmas and was able to load it with songs (eventually) back in January. So I have a feeling that a software update is screwing me up.
It is as if the itunes doesn't properly transfer the songs into the ipod, even though it appears to do so in the itunes gui.
    Thank you for your help.
Toshiba Laptop Pentium 4 3.2G   Windows XP

    MORE INFORMATION:
I tried various ways to transfer songs into the itunes ipod icon: from library, from playlist, even tried transferring playlist. In all situations, the transferred songs appear within the ipod icon as they should, but ipod doesn't show these songs when ejected. It's as if there is a missing "burn ipod" step or something.
I tried installing older itunes software, but it wouldn't let me because I had a new version. I didn't want to uninstall my current version for fear of wiping out my entire library.
I am not ready to take this step yet. I am hoping apple has a fairly simple solution.

  • Ipod nano lock symbol

I have a lock symbol in the upper left hand corner of my ipod nano screen. it is an 8 gig ipod serial number 7N742LNSYXX with software version 1.1. I cannot do anything with the screen such as scrolling in order to play music.
I restored what I guess is the operating system in itunes...which subsequently wiped out my library. Still, the lock symbol is there and I cannot use it.
I never set any sort of code in order to lock up my ipod so that nobody else could use it.
I have plugged the ipod into my computer and booted up itunes in order to find a way of getting rid of the lock symbol. No luck. As it stands, this ipod is worthless to me.
    Thanks

Those are the only 2 solutions, your iPod is broken and cannot be cheaply restored. Sell it on ebay as broken, you might get enough fo a 3rd or 4th gen iPod Nano.

  • Mail in repair ipod nano

For some stupid reason, (now I am regretting it), I decided to submit a repair request for my ipod nano that is out of warranty to get the broken screen repaired.  I went through their self service pages and entered the information including credit card info to pay for the service.  I selected the "Apple sends you a box and you use it to return the product to Apple" option.  When I received my confirmation email the instructions on it do not mention anything like "when you receive your box...", the way it reads to me is that I need to find a box to ship it in and then take it somewhere to be shipped.  I pasted the exact verbiage from the email below.  Has anyone had experience with this mail in repair service?  It has been 2 days, the option when I signed up says in "1 to 2 business days after you finalize this service request you will receive a box with instructions...", does anyone know if and when to expect it?  The confirmation email also mentions if they don't receive it within 10 business days, the repair will be canceled, does this mean I won't be charged or will Apple (since their terms say they don't give refunds) keep the money?  Of course the status page on the support site is totally worthless.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
"You'll need to send us your original product before we can send you a replacement. Be sure to send only the product itself. If you include extra items in the box, we won't be able to return them to you. Also, send it to us within 10 business days. Otherwise, this repair request will be canceled.
We recommend that you pack your product in its original packaging or a suitable alternative. Ship the package using a courier service that provides a tracking number and proof of delivery. You may want to insure the value of the product when arranging shipment, as this will not be covered by Apple. Please address the package as follows: "

You need to contact Apple directory to have them start the process over.

i cant get started my ipod nano 5th generation,is dead ,how can i repaire it

As I said in my previous reply:
You either have to enter the ID and password of the previous owner or get them to remove the device from their account
Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
I would return the iPod for a refund. If you can't then turn it into the police since it is worthless to you

  • Can i have an ipod mini and an ipod nano on same account

My daughter got an ipod mini 2 christmas's ago and so we have an itunes account. This christmas my son got an ipod nano because they had discontinued the minis. My son likes a lot of the songs that my daughter had on her ipod and i really dont want to use all that money just to rebuy songs. I was wondering if there was any way that I could use one account and they both have the same songs on their ipods.
      Windows XP

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. One way is is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. You could create one playlist for the Mini and one for the Nano. Each playlist can have whatever songs you like in it drawn from the single library. Have a look at the article linked below: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer

  • IPod Nano 4Gb (2nd Gen) not detected by Windows or iTunes

I am hoping someone can help me with this as I am at my wits end.
When I plug my iPod into the usb port, it begins the charging process, but neither windows, nor iTunes will detect any new devices. I have tried the 4 R's (the fifth needs a connection with iTunes), putting it into disc mode, and even on 3 different windows computers, but no dice. To save the no doubt normal questions, The usb ports are 2.0, and brand spanking new, which i have tested sucessfully with other usb devices, so I know it's not the usb port. I have the latest drivers & updates installed, and the latest version of iTunes also installed.
    Other potentially useful info:
The model is iPod nano 4bg alu 2nd gen
It's not new, i was given it as a gift by a friend who upgraded to the video model.
Though I can't be sure, I suspect that the dock cable isn't an apple product. Given that *very few* places where I live sell official iPod accessories, it is difficult for me to check.
Like I said, i really hope someone can help me, I really don't know how long i can go listening to my friends rather dubious music tastes...

  • TS1363 My ipod nano 5th generation is no longer recognized by itunes, and won't play any of it's music.  It still shows it all listed, but freezes up if you select a song to play.  Is there a way to restore it?

My ipod nano 5th generation will no longer play any of it's loaded songs.  It still plays the video that is on it, and the radio works.  It is not recognized by itunes and I have gone through all their help steps.  Is there some other way to restore it?

If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost under your warranty.

My ipod nano is no longer recognized by itunes after I installed windows 8.1.  The ipod nano still is recognized and works with a Windows 7 computer

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • Ipod Nano no longer recognized by Itunes

I have an Ipod Nano that I used with my Toshiba and Itunes. About a month ago, I got an Ipod Touch (lots of fun)and used it with the same Itunes. It worked fine. However, it does not recognize the Nano anymore. It charges but nothing else happens. Any thoughts? The Nano is recognized by other computers.
    Thanks!

I've run into similar problems. I have four iPods (a firewire 3G, a Shuffle, a nano and a 5G) attached to my PC and I've yet to get all of them to show up in iTunes at once, even after restoring and reloading each of them. The Shuffle shows up for a few seconds, then goes away. The Nano, 3G and 5G stick around for a while, but if two of them are connected to the system, one of them (usually the nano or the 3G) vanishes from iTunes when the third is connected.
ITunes won't say so specifically, but you won't be able to successfully restore a device unless it's the only one connected to your system. What's more, if you have more than one iPod connected when you attempt to restore one, there's a good chance you'll screw up your other one instead. No big deal, unless you're on your way out the door and must now wait for 6000 songs to resync, but still a hassle.

My ipod nano will no longer sync with itunes since i purchased an iphone 4s and synced the phone with itunes.  When I plug my ipod into my imac, it does not even read or recognize my ipod.  What do i do?

Are you using the original cable that came with Nano and not your iPhone's cable?  Have you worked through the troubleshooting in this Apple support document?

  • Ipod nano shuts down windows as soon as is connected

I have just purchased an ipod nano 4th generation, downloaded itunes software with no problem, the nano is fully charged, this has been done on a different computer, my problem is that soon as I connect the ipod via the usb cable the pc shuts down and then tries to restart itself (no blue screen)it will not restart though whilst the ipod is connected, i have read that i should update usb drivers but am not able to see which one the ipod connects to as the shut down is fairly instant, has anyone else had this problem and how could it be resolved, need big help please

I've experienced the same problem since 21st November and attended the Ipod Genius Bar at Oxford Street and still no resolution. Today i have both my childrens Nano 4th Generation working/syncing etc.
The Nano identifies an apple ipod driver when connected to the computer for the first time when online. Itunes refuses to accepts this and shuts down, similar to your problem.
Without being online or opening itunes i opened computer management then device manager and disable the apple driver.
I then opened the assigned a USB Mass Storage Device driver to the Nano. I then opened the Nano in windows and found several files including calender etc on the disk. I deleted all the contents and disconnected it from the computer through the eject device feature.
I then opened Itunes and connected the Nano and it recognised it and required it to be fully restored which i did.
I have since connected it to Itunes Store etc and no problems.
By the way i have removed both Itunes & Quicktime no less than eleven times and reassigned drive letters to the Nano as well as re-create my itunes library on a seperate disk drive but the problem stems from the device drives and the programs/files already on the Nano.
    I hope this helps.

  • Windows vista 64 bit and ipod nano

Hi, we are having problems getting our 3 new ipod nano generation 5 to work on our windows vista computer. Itunes won't recognize them have tried to uninstall itunes but get a message to verify we have sufficient access to that key, or contact support personnel, and then we click ok and it stops the uninstall does anyone know how to correct this problem or what we need to do to get the ipods to work on itunes with windows vista 64bit computer? I saw an answer for a 32bit computer but read that it is different for a 64bit computer. Thanks!

I, too, am having the same problems. Very frustrating to have a nano 4 generation that needs only the latest iTunes software but a computer that requires 64 bit software.
If you get an answer, let me know. I even paid to have music loaded on my nano ipod yesterday and because it was attached to my computer, when I booted up, it somehow went to checkdisk mode and cleaned all the music out! Am ready to throw it out and get a non-Mac ipod instead. But if you have THE answer, I'd really like to hear about it. Thanks.
