Ipod nano 5th generation dark screen

I accidently washed my ipod nano and did the rice thing. It turns on and plays my music but the screen is now dark so it is hard to read the menu. What is wrong? What can I do to fix this?

It sounds like the backlight for the LCD display is no longer working (or maybe set to be OFF).
The things I list below are what I'd suggest normally, but since this problem coincided with the iPod getting wet, it is more likely to be a hardware problem.
Try doing a Reset (to "reboot" the iPod)
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
You can check the iPod's Settings screen to make sure the backlight setting did not accidentally get set to be OFF.  On my nano, that setting is under Settings -> General -> Backlight.
You can also go to the Settings screen and select Reset Settings.  This will reset all current settings to their default settings.
If the iPod is recognized by iTunes when connected to the computer, you can try doing a Restore.  This is done by selecting the iPod in the iTunes sidebar under DEVICES, and going to the Summary tab (over to the right).  This will erase the iPod, reinstall the latest software, and set it to default settings.
You could let it sit in a warm place for a while longer.  Maybe all the moisture is not gone...

  • IPod nano (5th Generation) Black Screen but still plays Music

    Problem:
I see a black screen and no backlit normal screen - there's a faint Apple Logo when the device is turned on.
I can navigate the scroll wheel and hear the audible "clicks" when circling the scroll wheel.
I can push play and it will play music just fine. FF, Rewind, Menu, Play/pause all work correctly.
    Tried the following:
Menu + Select + held down for 5-10 seconds.  faint apple logo dissapppears then I push Play and it re-appears.  Still plays music just fine but screen still black with faint apple logo and no back light.
Restore Factory Settings via iTunes.  It erased all media.  put a song on there to test.  can play song but same issue (no back light OS, just  black + faint apple logo on the display)
Tried Rewind + select to enter diagnostics - nothing happens, same issue
    Please help.

    Hi yning_,
If you are having issues with the display on your iPod Classic, you may want to go through the steps listed in the following Troubleshooting Assistant to see if they resolve your issue:

    Howdy Lumagofe,
I was thinking that you may need to reset the iPod Nano, outlined here How to reset iPod http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
If that doesn't quite get the iPod going again, then it will need to be restored. Use this article to help with that Restoring iPod to factory settings http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339.
    All the very best,

  • IPod nano 5th generation battery is losing charge

My iPod nano 5th generation battery is losing charge. I do not use this this ipod alot because I have older ipod iPod nano (3rd generation) which I like better. The problem is this ipod gos dead even if I don't use it. This ipod will not shut off and thats why it gos dead.
Is there any way to troubleshoot thlis ipod nano 5th generation to find out how and why it will not shut off, because this should not go dead if your not using it...

The iPod Nano 5th generation does not actually shut off. It "sleeps" by pressing the pause button until the screen goes black. To keep the battery from losing its charge, keep the iPod Nano connected to your computer, wall charger or a charging dock when not in use.
When the iPod is left unattended (not charging), the battery will still lose its charge. This is mentioned in the battery section of the iPod Nano 5th Gen. User Manual.

  • TS1363 My ipod nano 5th generation is no longer recognized by itunes, and won't play any of it's music.  It still shows it all listed, but freezes up if you select a song to play.  Is there a way to restore it?

My ipod nano 5th generation will no longer play any of it's loaded songs.  It still plays the video that is on it, and the radio works.  It is not recognized by itunes and I have gone through all their help steps.  Is there some other way to restore it?

If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost under your warranty.

  • I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for 2 years now and then after about a year when I plugged in my iPod to my computer, the iPod is read but the tab where I would always go that showed my list of artists to sync to my iPod does not show up

I use an iPod nano 5th generation. I have had it for about two years now and after about one year, I plugged in my iPod into my computer to sync more music. Here is the problem: The tab where you go to sync music to your iPod and shows the list of artists and songs you want to sync to the iPod, the tab I can get to but the list of songs and artists does not show up and the only way I can sync music to my iPod is to basically wipe my iPod and start from scratch. Obviously, I do not want to do that because I do not have all the songs in my library that I have on my iPod. I have uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed it, but it did not work and I do not know what else to do. I would really appreciate helpful guidance to get it fixed if it can be fixed. Thanks in advance

  • Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation is not being detected by Widows and Itunes. I have tried everything based on the trouble shooting tips outlined. Has anyone had this situation before? How was it resolved. My Ipod is just out of warrenty

Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod  nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything. Thanks

Try changing the cord. I could NOT get my computer to recognize my iPod 5th Gen until I read somewhere that different apple devices use different cords. I was inadvertently using my iPad cord and that caused my computer to not recognize my ipod.

  • IPod Click Wheel games compatible with ipod nano 5th Generation

I've found the iPod Click Wheel Games by clicking the triangle that appears next to the "App Store" tab and clicking the third option, "iPod Click Wheel Games." But when I look at the details of any of the games it says they are compatible with:
"This game is compatible with iPod nano (3rd and 4th generation), iPod classic, and iPod (5th generation) only. It cannot be played on your computer, nor is it compatible with other iPod models or iPhone."
Does this mean that I cannot use them on my iPod nano 5th generation? or is the iPod nano being referred to as "iPod (5th generation)"
I guess it just seems silly that a game is only compatible with older versions or that the newest iPod nano can NOT operate older games.
Can anyone explain this? or has anyone tried to download one of these iPod Click Wheel Games and found that it actually Does work for an iPod nano 5th generation?

    Can anyone explain this?
I can't but Apple should be able too - U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)

  • ITunes for iPod Nano 5th generation

    Hi
I have a iPod Nano 5th generation with the click wheel and no touch. When I search iTunes fro Apps & Games, I find only for iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone. How do I search only for iPod Nano 5th generation click wheel games

Mouse over App Store. You'll see a arrow pointing down. Click it and on bottom of list is iPod click wheel games. Click it and your there...
Too Bad we still have to pay so much for these old games. I think Apple should just release them as freeware...

  • Ipod nano (5th generation) - want to use headphones and charge at the same time

I have an ipod nano (5th generation).  Do I need a special set of headphones to use the headphone jack and charge the ipod at the same time?

The iPod nanos have a 30 pin dock connector and a headphone jack. When you charge the iPod you use the dock connector therefore you can use and charge at the same time. You cannot use and charge the iPod shuffle at the same time. You might have the two mixed up.

  • How do you get games on a ipod nano 5th generation..  i cant fing click wheel games on itunes anymore.

i used to be able to connect to itunes and be able to download games to my ipod nano 5th generation but now i cant.

That feature has been discontinued by Apple.
