I just got a new iPod nano and when I connect it, nothing happens. Itdoes not appear in the device list in iTunes. The nano screen says it is connected but I didn't get to even set it up in itunes. I've tried everything on the apple site - uninstalled itunes and then reinstalled, reset the ipod. I just can't restore because the apple site says I need to do that through iTunes, but I can't b/c it's not showing up in the device list. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

  • Ipod nano 5th gen not recognized by itunes

Having same issue as other post except that I'm on XP home instead of a Mac. Windows recognizes the Ipod but Itunes does not. I've tried a number of the tips I've read about in the support section, but no luck. 2nd Gen Nano and Shuffle work fine and are recognized by Itunes. I was able to charge the 5th gen Nano but it was never setup since it was not recognized.

Sorry about posting in Ipod discussion instead of Nano 5th gen discussion. I was probably half awake.
I spent a lot time messing around with my computer with no luck. Finally contacted an Apple expert and though the rep was not able to solve the issue with me, he pointed me in the right direction. My fix was actually quite simple:
I downloaded Itunes onto my wife's laptop and plugged in the Nano. The setup worked and Itunes recognized it. I was able to update the latest software for the device. I moved some music files over with the Homeshare feature just in case I would not be able to use my PC. Luckily when I plugged the Nano back into my PC, Itunes recognized it.
It was either the initial device setup or the update that I needed to resolve the issue on my PC. So try it on another computer if you similar issues before you waste a lot of time and effort.

  • Ipod nano 6th generation not recognized by itunes

Whenever i plug in my 6th generation nano (the little one with the touch screen), iTunes tells me it knows there is an iPod connected, but it cant be identified properly. Ive tried resolving it with all the help on iTunes and nothing has worked. Any ideas?

The most likely culprit is that you have an older version of iTunes. You'll want iTunes 10 and up. To check which version go to the Help Menu in iTunes and click About iTunes. That'll tell you the version. If it's below 10 go back to the Help Menu and check for updates, install the latest version, which 10.2.2
If it is iTunes 10 or later, uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Here's the article that walks you through it.

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation not recognized in iTunes

I just recently upgraded my Macbook software to version 10.6.3 because I purchased an iPod shuffle and the newest version of iTunes would not install with my old software. Now my iPod Touch 3rd generation is not being recognized by the newest version of iTunes (10.2). I have already restarted my computer, and shut it down and removed the battery for a minute before starting it up again. None of these things worked. This is the first time I have tried to sync my iPod touch since installing the new software so I am not sure what I need to do.

It sounds like this may be the fix:

  • IPod nano (4th gen) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.3

I have an iPod nano (4th gen). After upgarding iTunes to v 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro) I get the follwoing message:
iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.
Unfortunately, I restored to factory settings, which erased everything, but each time I connect the iPod I get the same message.
It must be an issue with compatibility because I get the same message with my wife's iPod (same gen), but hers syncs just fine on her iTunes (v 10), and I get the same message using two different USB cables.
So now my iPod is essentially empty (factory settings) and as good as a paperweight unless there is a way to get iTunes to recognize and sync. If I could get past the error message, I suspect it would be easy to sync automatically or manually.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi JMfromMN,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod isn't recognized by your computer, this article may help:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Since your wife's iPod displays the same behavior omn your computer, it sounds like the troubleshooting for the iPod itself (which you've largely already done anyway) can be skipped.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • Ipod nano 6th gen not recognized in itunes

I recently purchased a used "AS IS" ipod nano 6th gen. The only problem with it is that it's not recognized by iTunes. I was fairly sure on purchasing it that solving this would be as simple as resetting it, or, at worst, figure it out by googling the problem. The method involving holding down the sleep/wake button and volume down for 8 seconds until the apple logo appears didn't help. Putting it in disk mode didn't help. I have a mac and I suspect the original owner of the ipod may have used windows, so I tried both of these things again with my dad's PC. I at least got some response--an error message saying the usb device couldn't be read or something of that sort (I can look up the exact message again tomorrow if it's relevant).
I don't think it's the USB plug or cord, because both of these work with my iphone and another ipod nano in the household. I don't think it's itunes either, for the same reason. I'm running Lion, fully up-to-date, on a Macbook Pro. ITunes is also fully up-to-date.
I wouldn't be devastated if I can't fix it, since it still charges and plays music (the previous owner's hip-hop/club type music works pretty well for workouts), and it's probably not worth it to me to pay Apple to repair it. But…if anyone has any suggestions for things I can try to get it totally working, I'd love to hear them!

    solved it :-)
Apparently it's not enough to reinstall iTunes itself, but all mobile device software should be uninstalled, then your pc has to be rebooted and then iTunes has to be installed again.

  • Ipod nano 7th Generation not connecting to itunes

I bought my Ipod nano in January of this year, and have been using the same computer and operating system to access Itunes since I brought it home.
As of this month, whenever I try to connect my Ipod to Itunes to sync my music, it states a message consisting of "An Ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly." I had updated the version of Itunes, so with the research I did in the forums, I uninstalled Itunes, reinstalled, and restarted my computer. I then connected my Ipod and it connected. Hooray. While syncing music, it then popped up a message saying that the music files I was trying to sync were not compatible with my Ipod. I checked the file type; AAC. I disconnected my Ipod, reconnected, and it displayed the first message yet again.
I have used this computer and many of the music files on my previous Ipod nano 5th gen before I purchased my new one, and everything worked perfectly.
I haven't found any other forums that really address this issue, so any help is appreciated.

Before iTunes 12, I would always be able to sync my 32 GB 4th Gen iPod Touch (iOS 6.1.6) with no problem at all. After the upload, it is no longer recognized by iTunes. It's connected, but the iPod icon is nowhere to be found. I restarted my laptop, but the same problem occurs. Can I get some help with this issue. Thank you.
