IPod nano 6th gen (brand new) doesn't recognize when headphones are plugged in
I have a brand new iPod nano (6th gen), and it doesn't detect when headphones are plugged in. I have read that the problem can ocurr because the headphones are not correctly inserted (which is not the case.. i'm absolutely sure about this) or that the headphone jack has dust inside (which is also not the case, since it is brand new).
This is what happens:
When i play a song, and then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the display, the music stops. Or if i let the music play, it stops when the screen times out and turns off. These two things occur because the ipod "thinks" that there are no headphones inserted.
When i try to activate the FM radio, the radio won't start because it says that there is no radio signal (which occurs when no headphones are connected).
Needless to say, the microphone and volume controls of the iphone headset, don´t work at all (they even work on the ipod shuffle!).. and because of this, no voice recording for me!
It's a shame, because the FM radio is completely useless, and music playing only works by activating the "double click to play" option in the settings menu.. but it is somewhat cumbersome the process of "play music - turn off the screen - double click to resume playing" every time I select a song.
The headphone detection has only worked randomly when the ipod is connected to the computer, but i haven't been able to figure out under what conditions this occurs. I have read about this issue, and I only would like to know if this is a firmware bug of the 1.2 version. I tried unsuccesfully to downgrade the firmware to the 1.1 version (maybe because the ipod shipped with the 1.2 version).
I have also restored the device in itunes, with no luck.....

The headphones that i'm using, are the ones that were included with the iphone 4 (so, they are original).. however this shouldn't be a problem, as the ipod should work fine with whatever headphones i choose to use (sound quality will vary, of course).
The ipod does the same with the headphones that were included in the box, and with every pair of headphones i have used to test, so i'm certain that the ipod has an issue.
I hope that the picture is clear enough.. here you can see that the headphones are fully inserted, and the ipod is not recognizing them.

I have 3 pairs of headphones all which do not work but I do not have the original headphones. they are so uncomfortable and seems unfair to me that apple would have a one size fits al headphone that only works with the device. I do not intend on switching.

iPod nanoFirst, make sure the headphones plug is completely inserted into the nano's headphones jack. It should "click" into place. The fit may be tighter than expected, especially when new. There is a sensor in there, and if the plug is not completely inserted, you may get some sound, but the nano will not "sense" the headphones.
If that is not the problem, you should have the nano looked at under warranty. It should work with any standard headphones. If there is an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar and take it there. -
i have recently recieved an ipod nano 6th gen after the 1st gen recall, and out of nowhere it just started flashing the apple logo when connected to computer. Help please!

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer. -

My ipod nano's music stops playing when i sleep the ipod... and sometimes the screen is unresponsive. It is a little bit smasshed so yeah... could that be a factor?Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

What is your price range. I know exactly what you are talking about. I always used headphones while mowing and I used to runt he cord through my shirt to prevent it from getting caught on the steering controls of the mower but one day the cord came untucked form my pants pocket ripping the cord straight out of the headphone itself. They were nice Sennheisers to!
I ended up replacing them with these http://en-us.sennheiser.com/wireless-bluetooth-headset-headphone-smart-mobile-phone-stereo-mm-500-x they are pricey at 330 but will last you many years if they are taken care of. Sennheisers are excellent quality. Best Buy oddly doesnt carry the 500 series they have the 450 and 550 but not the 500. Completely ignore the Beats by Dr. Dre they are horrible for the price point they are!
The noise cancellation is great and they are very comfortable. Like you I dont care for earbuds as I have tried many and they all hurt my ears and on-ear style would eventually start hurting my outer ear but these are very comfy! -
My ipod nano 6th gen doesn't start. When I plug it, only blink the apple logo on the screen. I try to reset it holding by 8 seconds start button and volume down and doesn't work. My Ipod doesn't have any shock or water damage. How can I do?

If they are gone, then your question is answered.
If you synced your ipod to a different computer, then the current content of the ipod would be erased.
You cannot sync the music from the ipod to the computer. It sync from the comptuer to the ipod.
If the music is gone, then it is gone.

Your music is only where you put it. If you synced your ipod to another computer, erasing the ipod, then the music is not on the ipod any longer.

Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders onto your computer. You can do this by creating a new folder on your desktop and dragging the files into the folder.Open itunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music
You can now sync your ipod to this new computer with out losing all of your music.

Ipod nano 6th gen damages headphones with an inline mic?
I have been using skullcandy earbuds with inline mic/ remote with an iPod nano 6th gen. The problem is that songs will skip automatically, voice over comes on inadvertantly, and volume will go up and down by itself. at first i assumed it was the headphones since it seemed that a button on the inline remote was sticking and causing all of these inadvertant problems. but, i got brand new set of earbuds, different cheaper brand with inline remote (iLuv), and first tested them on my iPhone. they worked perfectly on the iPhone for several weeks. I then started using them on my iPod nano, and a few days later noticed the same thing as before - inadvertant skipping, voice over, etc. When i tried to use the same earbuds again, but on my iPhone, the problem persisted indicating that the headphones were now damaged. That is when i realized it must be the iPod somehow short circuiting the earbuds, since it happened on two separate sets of earbuds.
Has anyone experienced this problem before when using earbuds with an inline remote / mic? is it possible that the earbuds are not compatible with the iPod? i am worried that this is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed by software update....Did you try doing a Reset on the iPod (which restarts the iPod)?

My brand-new IPod Nano (6th gen) is frozen on an "ok to disconnect screen. This happened right after ITunes said it was in recovery mode. The ipod said "do not disconnect" before and, Like an idiot i disconnected it, now it says "ok to disconnect". it has been like that for over an hour. I think it's a bit of a lost cause. im about ready to hammer this thing. Can anyone help???????Go to your Main Menu, then Setting and then Reset Settings. That helped me once with another issue.

Ipod nano 6th gen not recognized by itunes
I recently updated my version of itunes and now whenever I plug in my ipod nano 6th gen an error message pops up saying it doesn't recognize my ipod. Why odes this even happen?
For anyone else having this problem, I found this solution to work. Try this first:
a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
- disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
- connect your USB device
- if ITunes loads, close it.
b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
Select Install. It's very quick.
remove the USB device
c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
d)If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
f) If still not works, try re-install iTunes. Go into the Unstall Programs (in Control Panel) and uninstall everything that says Apple, and uninstall Bonjour. With the fresh install of iTunes, everything came back and is should work. Hope it helps.

IPod Nano 6th gen. won't sync to iTunes 11 on Windows 8?
Hi, I recently acquired a new Windows 8 laptop and after installing iTunes 11 I decided to sync my iPod Nano 6th gen. My iPod was last synced to iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7. When I synced the iPod to the new laptop I was receiving the problem of the WDF_VIOLATION which had something do to with Windows 8 and iTunes 11 being in compatible. I changed the compatibilty settings for Itunes to Windows 7 and the error has passed. The problem left standing is that my iPod will now not sync the library. After clicking"sync" either a very fast recognition happens or nothing at all will hapen and either way I'm left with the same music as I had on the previous iTunes. Is there a reason or anything I can do to change this? Thanks
