IPod Nano 6th Gen needs a restore every day...?

My iPod Nano 6th Gen works well for arond 24 hours but every morning when i wake up it says it needs to be restored using iTuunes.
When I restore it, it works perfectly. No problems at all. I can fill it to capacity with music and it works all day. The next morning, the battery is still really close to fully charged, but the iPod is in recovery mode. I've scoured the internet but haven't found anyone with a similar problem.
Generally, I've read about iPods that will not restore, or that, even after a restore, will remain in recovery mode, which is indicative of moisture or some other malady.
This Nano has been well cared for and is in flawless condition in every way aside from the condition mentioned. Not even a scratch or smudge. I'm baffled.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? I love to use the smaller ipod when running or bike riding, but am stuck restoring it each day I choose to use it over my Classic 160's.
Any help is appreciated.

Ok, here is a bit of an update on the issue.
For the last two mornings, when the Nano says it needs a restore, I've hard reset it (holding down both the select/menu and volume down button simultaneously), then, when the apple logo shows, I held down the menu and the volume up button simultaneously, which then restores the ipod back to functioning properly (I think I read that this is supposed to put the ipod into disk mode, which it doesn't do on this Nano, obviously).
Aside from being annoying as all get up, I suppose the ipod is working, so it's a minor victory.
Still, does anyone know why this might be happening every single night? The battery is still completely charged and once I do the aforementioned sequence, the ipod works perfectly until the next day.

  • Ipod nano 6th gen askinh for resore every time i connect and after the restore not showing the sysnced song on ipod

i have a ipod nano 6th gen, few days back when i tried to add few songs through iTunes it gave me error that it "can't connect to ipod . restore it" so i did and after that i synced al the songs and it showed that my my empty ipod has been up few GB's. after i disconnected , i could not see any song on the ipod . when it connected back the ipod the got same error about restore. i dont know what to do now , please help.

    Hello Singhindia,
It sounds like you restored your iPod Nano when iTunes prompted you and it appears to sync. When you disconnect it and look at the content, the songs arent there, and when you plug it back into iTunes you get the same message again. I would recommend these troubleshooting sections from the following article to help isolate the issue to hardware or software:
iPod nano: Error message saying that iPod 'could not be identified properly'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218
Verify that iTunes is installed and updated
    Restart the computer
Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    Verify the device's USB connection
Verify that the Apple Mobile Device Service and iPod service are both running
Verify that the Apple Mobile Device Driver is installed
    Remove and reinstall iTunes
If the issue continues, gathering iPod Diagnostics may be helpful for you or for support personnel in identifying the issue.
    Additional Information
Certain phone connectivity software from vendors such as Samsung, Nokia, Bora, Novatel, and Sony may also cause this issue. If you have such software on your computer:
Uninstall your Samsung, Nokia, Bora, Novatel, or Sony phone connectivity software and test. Contact the manufacturer of this software for assistance in doing this.
Remove iTunes and all related Apple software by following this article (for Windows XP), or this article (for Windows Vista and Windows 7).
After reinstalling iTunes, test the iPod nano.
If you still need your phone connectivity software that was removed, reinstall this software and test your iPod nano to ensure it still functions with iTunes. Contact the vendor of your phone connectivity software if the issue returns.
While the error message is different than you are seeing, the troubleshooting is relevant for you.

  • My ipod nano (6th gen) keeps connecting and disconnecting itself from my computer can anyone help?

I have read numerous posts online about the same problem but can't seem to sort mine out. I've tried changing power leads, restoring back till an older version of itunes, resetting the ipod, restarting my computer and tried every USB port in sight but still nothing.
I have plugged a friends ipod touch into my computer and it connects and appears in itunes fine, but with mine it wont stay connected long enough for me to try and restore anything with it on itunes its literally a 1 second interval between connected and ejecting. I thought maybe it could be the connection terminal on the ipod but i have had it connected to a wall charger and xbox with it staying connected with no problems.
I am running windows vista on the computer and the nano was previously synced to a different itunes could this be the problem and if so how do I go about fixing it??
    Thanks

I too am having this same issue. I connect my iPod nano (6th gen), and it appears for anywhere between 1 to 10 seconds and then automatically ejects.
I'm running a macbook pro with OS X 10.6.8 and the most up to date version of iTunes. The strange thing is that the nano works fine on my old macbook from 2007; which also has the most up to date iTunes but is running OS X 10.5. Another thing is that my iPod touch works just perfectly on my MacBook Pro.
I have read up on a lot of forums, and have found little help for those who are running into this problem on a Mac. The majority of fixes are for PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod nano 6th gen (brand new) doesn't recognize when headphones are plugged in

I have a brand new iPod nano (6th gen), and it doesn't detect when headphones are plugged in. I have read that the problem can ocurr because the headphones are not correctly inserted (which is not the case.. i'm absolutely sure about this) or that the headphone jack has dust inside (which is also not the case, since it is brand new).
    This is what happens:
When i play a song, and then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the display, the music stops. Or if i let the music play, it stops when the screen times out and turns off. These two things occur because the ipod "thinks" that there are no headphones inserted.
When i try to activate the FM radio, the radio won't start because it says that there is no radio signal (which occurs when no headphones are connected).
Needless to say, the microphone and volume controls of the iphone headset, don´t work at all (they even work on the ipod shuffle!).. and because of this, no voice recording for me!
It's a shame, because the FM radio is completely useless, and music playing only works by activating the "double click to play" option in the settings menu.. but it is somewhat cumbersome the process of "play music - turn off the screen - double click to resume playing" every time I select a song.
The headphone detection has only worked randomly when the ipod is connected to the computer, but i haven't been able to figure out under what conditions this occurs. I have read about this issue, and I only would like to know if this is a firmware bug of the 1.2 version. I tried unsuccesfully to downgrade the firmware to the 1.1 version (maybe because the ipod shipped with the 1.2 version).
I have also restored the device in itunes, with no luck.....
Thanks in advance for any useful answer!

    Thanks for your answer...
The headphones that i'm using, are the ones that were included with the iphone 4 (so, they are original).. however this shouldn't be a problem, as the ipod should work fine with whatever headphones i choose to use (sound quality will vary, of course).
The ipod does the same with the headphones that were included in the box, and with every pair of headphones i have used to test, so i'm certain that the ipod has an issue.
I hope that the picture is clear enough.. here you can see that the headphones are fully inserted, and the ipod is not recognizing them.

  • Ipod nano 6th gen, wierd functionality problems

I got this ipod nano 6th gen refurbished from apple a year back.  I just started using it and found that after I synced it with my itunes, i have the following problems :
    1. The screen display is opposite than my previous ipod (landscape vs portrait).
    2. I have to manually change to next song most of the time.
    3. When I change songs, it plays a song a few seconds and then skips a few before stopping on a song.
    4. The song playing is not the song displayed on the screen.
Tried restoring to factory settings.  Same issues.    Can someone help?

    Hi zenpal1,
If you are having multiple issues with your iPod nano that persist after a factory restore, you may need to have your iPod evaluated or serviced. You may find the following page helpful:

  • Ipod nano 6th gen touch screen stopped working please help

Everything on the ipod nano 6th gen is working except the touch screen and once it goes to sleep i have to hold the sleep button and the volume down button to turn it back on. I went into the volume -, sleep, volume + menu and went through the tests and in the touch panel error check section it says i have IC error reported: 0xFFFFFFFF. Please help as i have reset and restored and update itunes etc. Do i need to send it in to apple? The touch screen was working at one stage and then i disconected from the computer while it said eject first (this is when the touch screen stopped working) and put the ipod on a different computer. The first computer was windows 7 which i used just to charge it a little and the second one im using is windows vista.

I have had the same problem and changed three Nano's. Each time the fault is diagnosed by Apple as "water damage".
If you take your Nano to one of their maintenance centres they will look into either the headphone socket or the power dock and and tell you that you have infringed the warranty by somehow getting the thing wet.
Basically is a poorly designed piece of kit whereas a simple shuffle is way more robust.
I have given up with my Nano and am now using an old model

  • My ipod nano 6th gen will only turn on when plugged into a power source.

My ipod nano 6th gen ONLY turns on when it is plugged into a power source. As soon as I unplug it, it turns off. I also tried to reset it and it did not help. Any suggestions?

    Howdy mela1223,
If I understand correctly your iPod will not stay on unless you have the charger plugged in even after resetting it. Normally this would indicate a hardware issue that would need a repair but to cover all the bases before that, the last troubleshooting that can be done for it would be to restore it with iTunes on a computer.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • IPod Nano 6th gen won't sync with iTunes 12.1.1.4

iPod Nano 6th gen won't sync with iTunes 12.1.1.4.
This iPod was synced with another iTunes library. I had to transfer iTunes library from another laptop.
Launch iTunes (12.1.1.4), plug in Nano, Nano display says connected, Nano appears in iTunes, but when I attempt to navigate to Nano nothing occurs, or if I am able to navigate to Nano then I can't go any further and select music to sync and the Nano comes out of connected state. I have had to close iTunes, sometimes reboot laptop, but nothing I do appears to make any difference. It won't allow me to continue music selection process and start the sync process. Is there a way to simply reset the Nano and reconnect to get it to sync? I don't care about content as it needs to be resynced with this iteration of iTunes because it is currently associated with the other iTunes library.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    What solved my problem:
I restored my iPod nano on my wife's PC, which had version 11 of iTunes. I was then able to sync it on my PC. Why didn't I restore it on my PC? See following details.
    Additional details:
I first took the iPod to the local Apple Store, where the only course of action they could offer was to restore the iPod. So they did. When I got home, it wouldn't even connect to iTunes on my PC, which was a regression from the day before. Out of desperation I plugged it into my wife's PC, and her older version of iTunes immediately told me the iPod had been formatted on a Mac and it needed to be restored on a PC to be usable by a Windows machine. Why my newer version of iTunes couldn't tell me that is a mystery.

  • IPod nano 6th generation won't restore

my iPod nano 6th gen, is locked in some kind of restore loop.  It says it's restarting after the restore, and after the iPod screen goes from do not disconnect to the Apple logo temporarily, the screen goes back to the restore screen, and iTunes says it needs to be restored.  What do I do now?

We had to replace ours and it seems to have fixed the issue, so unfortunately, it does sound like a hardware issue.  The thing that ***** the most is that I had the first one engraved for my wife as a "birth" gift, and when you replace something, they don't give you the option to get the replacement engraved.

  • Ipod nano 6th gen keeps disconnecting

Hi all, I have a 2 year old ipod nano 6th gen and when I first brought it I synced it with my windows 7 computer. I now have a mac so about a month ago I started syncing it with my mac, and all was fine. However, I noticed it wasnt syncing my 25 top played about two weeks ago so I did a system restore. After I disconnecting my ipod (which is the final stage in the restore) I then connected it again to sync all my music back on to the ipod, but after about 50 songs it came up with a pop up box saying that I had disconnected the ipod so it couldnt be synced, however I had not touched the ipod. I have also tried a friend's ipod cord and I have tried syncing my ipod with my old windows 7 computer but when I try to sync it it still says after about 50 songs that I have disconnected the ipod. I have turned off automatic sync and I have tried restarting the ipod and my computer and nothing has helped, any ideas?

    then try to do this:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step. If the above step did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.

You can try Restoring it in iTunes but I believe you will end up needing to have it serviced.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen has white screen

please help my ipod nano 6th gen has white screen and wont go away, ive put into disk mode (dfu) and restored on itunes and still no resolution....ive tried hard reseting and still nothing

It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • How to free disk space on ipod nano 6th gen

Okay so I have 86 songs on my ipod nano 6th gen capacity 8GB and it says it's full. I've deleted a huge number of files from my itunes and also on my media folder. It did not reduce the disk space on  my ipod. I presume that the 86 songs are taking up all the space on my ipod. Does this mean I'll have to unclick and unsync some of the tracks to make room for new songs?

I think you need to restore through iTunes to change an unknown password. Here is a link to the manual.
