IPod Nano 7th Gen not appearing in itunes

My ipod nano 7th gen is not appearing in itunes, either the new one or the old. it is registered on the computer, but I can't access it through itunes. It was woring a few weeks ago. I have Windows 8 and the newest itunes.

I came across this problem three days ago. Have tried everything. Went through all the steps Apple suggests for solving this problem. Nothing worked. The iPod is recognized by my wife's MacBook, but not by my Windows 7 PC. I'm at wits end.

  • IPod nano 7th gen not recognised in iTunes using Windows 8.1

I have an older 3rd generation iPod nano and a new 7th gen nano and I would like to sync them to the same iTunes on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 7520) running Win8.1. I have also updated iTunes to the latest version.
When I connect the new 7th gen iPod nano to my laptop via USB (tried all 4 ports)  I get the following error message from iTunes:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
I've been through most of http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218  and still get the error message although I haven't tried connecting the iPad nano 7th gen to an older Win7 laptop yet with a fresh iTunes install.
When connecting the iPod nano7 Win8.1 recognises E: as an iPod very briefly after I have run a scan via McAfee. After a few seconds the E: drive disappears and iTunes reports the error message as above.  Sometimes, E: doesn't disappear in Win8.1 but I still get the iTunes error message and the iPod nano itself goes from Connected to Main menu.
Any ideas how I can get iTunes to recognise my 7th gen nano?  I'm not sure if this is a Win8.1 problem or iTunes.

    Hello Abbey,
I would recommend the steps in this article named iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538. While the title of the article describes a symptom a bit different from yours, I feel the troubleshooting is still relevant.
If that does not resolve the issue, then I would suggest this article to help troubleshoot the USB connection.

And lastly, resetting it just may do the trick.
How to reset an iPod nano (7th generation)
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.

  • IPod nano 7th gen not found in iTunes/"no disc in drive" Windows computer.

I bought a brand new iPod nano 7th generation yesterday. When I plugged it into my Windows computer it began set up then stopped and a pop up appeared ''no disc in drive'' directly after that the next pop up read ''iPod cannot sync because it was not found''. My iPod is charging the entire time until that second pop up appears and then my iTunes acts as if the device was unplugged from the computer, it stops charging and at the top of my iTunes screen it says "OK to disconnect". I tried putting my iPod into "disk mode" but the same two pop ups still come up and the same thing happens. And even though iTunes recognizes the iPod as being unplugged even before it is, even after I do unplug it my computer still thinks it's attached, down in my tool bar it's still there waiting to be disconnected. As soon as iTunes begins starting up with my iPod it says there's no disc and then that the iPod can't be found even though it's still plugged in. I can't get any music on it let alone get my computer to recognize it for longer than 30 seconds. I really don't want to return it because my iPhone4 is full and can't fit any more music so I needed this iPod.

My 1 week old nano wont sync with Itunes anymore. I have tried rebooting it and reinstalling Itunes too, but nothing is working. It is connecting at random time but not everytime I try connecting it. I once plugged it into a different desktop and it shut down, after that it isnt connecting properly with my system. Is this the problem here?

  • Ipod nano 7th gen. not visible in itunes.

Whenever I connect my brand new ipod to my pc i can see it in 'my computer' but not in itunes. I have tried everything, mulitiple times, on the support pages and nothing seems to work. I have run an itunes diagnostic and the only test that failed was the one where ipod wasn't found. I have tried to uninstalled all programs that may cause interference. I don't know what else to do.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62 and Windows 8.1.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  You MUST get rid of those "helper" programs!! Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • Ipod nano 7th gen not recognized by iTunes. Windows

In same boat. Mine wont even charge. Now fully dead. I have a number of different USB sources. Ipod doesn't recognize it is plug in.
Ever since I got ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.
But trying to solve my problem Found most people solved there issue with holding on/off and sleep buttons at same time for few seconds to reboot. Didn't work for me.
    Might for you.

  • After upgrade to Windows 8.1, ipod nano 7th gen not recognized

/after upgrading to Windows 8.1, ITunes does not recognize my ipod nano 7th gen.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes but no luck.  I have gone through all steps in troubleshooting, but it still doesn't recognize it.  Help!

    Hi cindywindy,
If your iPod Nano is no longer recognized in iTunes after a recent system upgrade, you may find the following article helpful (apologies if you have already seen it):

  • IPod nano (4th gen) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.3

I have an iPod nano (4th gen). After upgarding iTunes to v 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro) I get the follwoing message:
iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.
Unfortunately, I restored to factory settings, which erased everything, but each time I connect the iPod I get the same message.
It must be an issue with compatibility because I get the same message with my wife's iPod (same gen), but hers syncs just fine on her iTunes (v 10), and I get the same message using two different USB cables.
So now my iPod is essentially empty (factory settings) and as good as a paperweight unless there is a way to get iTunes to recognize and sync. If I could get past the error message, I suspect it would be easy to sync automatically or manually.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi JMfromMN,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod isn't recognized by your computer, this article may help:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Since your wife's iPod displays the same behavior omn your computer, it sounds like the troubleshooting for the iPod itself (which you've largely already done anyway) can be skipped.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • IPod nano 7th gen not charging

I recently got an iPod nano 7th gen 16GB slate. Whenever I plug it into my MBP using the new connector, I get the PLUG in the battery icon instead of the usual lightning. When I finally unplug the iPod after keeping it plugged in for quite a long time, it seems like I didn't charge my iPod at all (all I get in the battery icon is a red line).
Is there something wrong with the battery or the cable??

Whilst charging make sure your iMac doesnt go to sleep and try to make sure itunes is constantly open whilst connected. If this does not work try restarting the device by holding down both the home button and slep button down.
    Hope this helps

  • Ipod nano 7th gen not turning on or connecting to laptop??

My son's ipod nano 7th gen won't turn on and when I connect it to the lap top a message comes up saying device driver not recognised - he was listening to it just last night, can anyone help? He's only had it since his birthday in November.

I reset the ipod by holding down the power button and the menu button and the apple screen came up after a few moments - this seems to have done the trick!

  • Why does my replacement iPod nano 7th gen not sync?

I've just got a replacement iPod nano 7th gen after my last one was faulty (suddenly having white screens etc) - exact same model type. I've charged it, and when I put the new replacement iPod in the computer it makes the regular sound to let me know its recognised the iPod. The iPod shows the 'connected - eject before disconnecting' sign so that part of it seems to be working.
I then go to devices looking to sync the music into my new iPod and then when I do that the 'Sync' button is grey and will not let me progress to sync. This is the problem I am having and I need help.
Let me know if you need any more information, thank you.

I am a UK resident btw If that helps.
