IPod Nano 8G only fits 667 songs

Any help would be appreciated.
I recently upgraded from a 6G mini to the 8G nano. I went to put my music on my nano and was only able to fit a fraction of the songs onto it that I had expected to be able to. I had alot more of the same music on my 6G mini than the new nano and I don't know where I have gone wrong.
Please help.

There's your problem, AIFF is an Lossless codec that yields HUGE file sizes. What you are going to have to do is convert all of your music to a Lossy format which will decrease the overall file size. First thing, in your importing preferences, change to either AAC @ 128kbps or mp3@160kbps. Your choice, keeping in mind that mp3 is more universally compatible with other hardware.
Let me explain why I have given you 2 options. First of all, when Apple quotes any capacity for an iPod that is based on the average 4 min. song imported in AAC@128. AAC & mp3 will give you the same file size when using the same bitrate, but AAC should have better audio quality at lower bitrates than mp3. In short, AAC@128 = mp3@160. Once you re-set your import options, then right click on any song/s in your library, then click on "convert to", ITunes will make the conversion for you. Keep in mind that you will end up with duplicates, one AIFF, one mp3 or AAC. Once everything is converted & you're sure everything is working you can delete the AIFF files out of iTunes & re-sync that Nano. Hope this helps & feel free to post back if you have any questions.

  • Ipod nano 2GB only allowing 44 songs then full

I am trying to import songs from my CD collection and I only have 44 songs on my nano and it says the memory is full. Can someone please help me? There is nothing else on the ipod except songs, no contacts, no photos, nothing else. Please help!!!
    hp   Windows XP

As it happans I am a wizz on the keboard and can help.
when apple say the iPod nano 2GB can fit what 500 songs?, they estimate this at ACC encoding 128 kbps, at 4 MB per song.
If you have imported your music from CD then it is probally in the uncommpressed format of AIFF, which takes up 20 time more space!!!
iTunes can convert the songs for you, you go to edit>preferences>advanced> here you can choose where you want your music to go after conversion now from here go to importing and , I would suggest using
ACC format at 128 kbps (High Quality)
now back in your library go to edit>select all ( select 1 of the songs first or this will not work) and then click advanced>convert selection to ACC now just let it chew through all of that (it might be an overnight job depending on the number of songs you have being converted).
Now you should delete your ebtire library of the big AIFF files and under file add new folder, and add the folder that you converted your music too (by default this will be C:/documents and setting/my documents/my music
then all of your new compressed songs will come on your library at the same quality as they were but 1/20th the size!!.

  • 2GB ipod nano will only allow 40 songs and not 500.

My little sisters ipod nano will only allow forty smoething songs to be downloaded on it, but isn't 2GB supposed to get around 500? There is nothing else on it except music so there isn't anything else taking up memory space. And yes I have restored it numerous times. Please help!

Make sure that the Music files are compressed formats if you want to get the m ost out of the cpacity of your iPod. When the iPod is "advertised" as "500 songs" or what have you, it is based on circumstance that the song is an AAC format (.m4a) and I think an average of 4minutes long.
AAC is as small as you can get. Make sure the tracks are in that format, if they are already, then the tracks must be quite long.

  • New ipod nano doesn't fit new ipod hifi

I just bought a new 4 meg ipod nano and apple ipod hifi from the London Apple Store. The ipod nano doesn't fit in its adapter. Anyone know of this problem? I'm gobsmacked that Apple's quality control let this happen!
    Thanks

    The page
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
    clearly says:
    In the box:
    * iPod nano
    * Earphones
    * USB 2.0 cable
    * Dock adapter
    * Quick Start guide
If the dock adapter is missing, which is what you need, because the iPod Hi-Fi only ships with an adapter for the 1st-gen iPod nano, then you need to contact Apple or your retailer.

  • My iPod nano completely eliminated all 214 songs from my music, leaving just the songs I recently purchased (9).  How can I get them back?  I've tried redownloading them but it didn't work.

My iPod nano completely eliminated all 214 songs from my music, leaving only the 9 songs I last purchased.  When I try to sync, I get a message, "cannot be synced because the iPod cannot be found."

When you say "account," do you mean your iTunes library, because your iTunes library is what is on your computer?  Your iTunes library does not have an email address.  An account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID (which is an email address) and you use it as your user name to sign in to the iTunes Store, to make purchases.  Changing your Apple ID will not make songs disappear from your computer's iTunes library.
If you had an Apple ID and used it to make song purchases from the iTunes Store, and then started using a different Apple ID, you should be able to re-download the songs purchased with the old Apple ID.  In iTunes, sign in to the iTunes Store using your OLD Apple ID (and password).  That may not be your current email address, but Apple uses it as your user name, so it does not matter.
On the iTunes Store Home screen, click on Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  This takes you do the Purchased screen, where you can re-download previous song purchases (for that Apple ID) at no cost.
NOTE:  If those song purchases are from more than a few years ago, you may also need to authorize your computer to play (and sync) songs for your old Apple ID.
For songs that were not purchased from the iTunes Store, if they are also gone, you cannot get them back unless you have a backup (or they are still loaded on your old iPod).
If that's not what you mean by "changed the email address on my account," please post back with more details.

i have a 5th gen ipod nano that freezes when playing songs. i can't skip, turn down volume, turn ipod off. it simply screeches as the song is stuck at a specific point. any suggestions?

You have 2 options:  #1 - iPod Repair Tutorials
#2 - take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • IPod Nano Sync Help: Using "Checked songs only" feature

    Hi
I just got an 8 gb nano and not used to selecting only part of my library for ipod sync(used to have a 20gb)
Problem: Sync not doing what i would expect
What i have done: I have unchecked most of my library so that it will fit in my ipod (i am not sure how many are checked/uncheked)
Also I have choosen the "only sync selected playlists"
What i want to do: i want to sync all the playlists + only checked songs
When i choose sync all playlists it tells me that the library dosen't fit
then, if i do "slected playlists" + checked songs, it only syncs the songs that are in the playlists and not all the checked songs
What is the hirerarky in the two options: is the "sync checked songs only" more iporatnt than the playlists
how can i get both : the checked songs only + my playlists?
thank you in advanced for your help

  • Ipod Nano won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages...

My first generation Nano was initially sent back to Apple due to the battery losing it's charge to quickly. They sent me back what appears to be a replacement Nano and now this one won't play any songs downloaded from MySpace pages of bands, shared from friends (unprotected mp3 files) or otherwise downloaded from the internet.
Whats unusual is that any songs imported from a CD to the Nano play fine as do any songs purchased from iTunes. I know Apple has stated that any files the user wishes to play on their iPods will play as long as the format is compatible. (All of these songs in question played on the original Nano and the problems started when they said they fixed it and sent it back (although it is missing the engraving which to me indicates they gave me a refurbished Nano). My Applecare runs out in mid-October so I need to figure out what is wrong. I sent it back a second time and they told me they couldn't recreate the problem so they just updated the software and sent it back.
Someone suggested that some iPods have a part of the firmware activated (which Apple may have been testing) that prevents any non-ITunes store music or music no t off an original CD to fail to play.
When attempting to play downloaded songs from sites like Purevolume and MySpace the iPod plays for a few seconds then shuts down and restarts itself, all of these songs worked fine before Apple took it in for service.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. It`s so annoying.
I did a little bit research on this discussion board and this problem seems to be known for quite a long time. It`s confusing me Apple is not able to fix that prob or give customers quick introduction to resolve the prob.
I am currently on vacation in Florida and just bought the new iPod 30 Gig. I transfered already songs from my music cd. That worked fine.
I bought 2 music video files, synced them with no error to the iPod, but it only shows me a black screen when I want to start the video on the iPod itself. itunes plays the files with no problem.
Any ideas how to fix it??

  • IPod Nano 6th generation is missing songs

    Hi,
I synced my iPod Nano 6th gen to iTunes, and for some reason it either completely misses almost all of my songs, or it thinks that it's playing them because it is totally quiet for the length of the song. I don't know why as all of my songs work on my iPod Touch 4th generation,iTunes and my Windows 8.1 Phone.
On the iPod, it only plays about 8 songs in my 96 song playlist, and when it reaches a string of songs it can't play, it just looks like I keep pressing the "next" button. The album artwork for all of the songs comes up, but almost none play that actual song itself. Also, if I go specifically into "Artists" and choose a song, it does the same thing where it just skips through songs until it can find one it can play. The screen between songs switches so fast that I never have time to read the title of the song fully.
Does anyone know the solution to this?
    Thanks

I have been driven nuts by this problem, and I finally cracked it today after reading through the forgoing and tearing my hair out.  Look at page 29 of the user manual, at the screen shots at the top.  Ignore the left one, just get your nano to show the middle screen.  No shuffle icons, none of the stuff you want, huh? Wrong! The one on the right of the page, the one you want, is there, out to the right!
So if you scroll the visible screen left, you get the third screen, the one that is on the right side of the page.  That's the one that has that shuffle control.  Mission accomplished, almost!  Just tap the shuffle icon.
This is a fault on the part of the manual writers, who clearly had to know the nano backwards, but who, as a result, didn't spoon-feed us enough. All it took was "Oh, by the way, if you want the second screen. you need to scroll across to it!"
Maybe they say it somewhere, but we all know that users don't read the manual, and when they do, they don't do it in a logical and sequential way.  Ah well, five weeks after a doofus shop assistant in Singapore messed it up, I have things going again.  Thanks to those who did the hard work and left the clues!  Me, I just flailed about irrationally until I got lucky

  • Why did mine only fit 725 songs its 8 gb my 4 g fit 800? do i need to do something in my itunes to make 1000 to 2000 fit?

i just bought an 8g nano but i loaded 725 songs just straight music no videos no pictures and it says its full i know its says i should be able to fit up to 2000 songs 725 is no where near that my 4g has 800 on it is there something i'm doing wrong or something i need to do i just dont get it and i've tried it a few times with the same results!!! Its getting very frustrating!!!!! thanks

If your songs are longer than 4 minutes on average or encoded at a bitrate higher than 128Kbps, fewer than 2000 will fit on the iPod.

  • My new Ipod Nano has only 14.88GB and not 16GB as promised. Why?

I just bought an Ipod Nano 16GB. I registered it at I-tunes and to my big surprise I realized it only has a capacity of 14.88GB and not 16GB. It is such a difference that it really counts, so I am a bit frustrated.
I have contacted Apple by E-mail, but they keep referring me to another department by saying it is not under their jurisdiction. It is as if they want to silence the matter.
Can anybody explain to me if anything is wrong with my Nano16GB and if so what I shall do next?
    Thank you,
    Posten

This is perfectly normal, some of the listed capacity is used for formatting and other functions including the iPod's operating software. You'll see the same thing if you connect any flash memory stick. For instance my 8GB USB memory stick is reported as 7.45 GB. The same thing happens with hard drives. With hard drives, there's a difference between how manufacturers calculate capacity and how the operating system calculates it. You'll see an example of that if you look at the size reported for your own computer hard drive. My 300 GB hard drive is reported as 279.36 for instance.: How much content will fit on my iPod?

  • Ipod Nano 6g for fitness and sport?

    Hello,
My old Ipod Nano 3G just died after many sport sessions (cardio fitness, running, cycling, etc). I must say I was pretty satisfied by that model for such usage.
I'm now considering buying the new 6G nano model and wanted to ask you these few questions:
    - Does the battery dry very fast as I could read already? (the 3G I had was standing several workout sessions of couple of hours without no problems)
    - How easy is to use the touch screen to go to the next song, to increase/decrease volume, to change playlist, ... via the touch screen while running/cycling (especially if the fingers are a bit wet)?
    - Does this Ipod support being remote controlled via the Apple Iphone headset (the one with microphone and remote controls for Ipod)?
    - To protect it against sweat, I plan to use it with an armband with a screen protector. Will the touch screen still be perfectly usable?
    Thanks for your feedback

it's small, has a built in clip and lots of storage (vs shuffle), so is ideal for running.
battery is good, as long as you stop it from playing all night (see the many threads on "can i turn it off") on this forum.
touch screen is not all that easy to use when running as you need to look at it. nano 4g/5g with click wheels are much easier.
volume is easy to change when running as it has dedicated hard buttons.
headphone controls work fine with this one.
it is sensitive to sweat (i've busted 2 running). dont know if touchscreen works thru armbands/protectors - doesnt work with gloves.
to be honest, if you are using armbands/covers etc then you give up much of the advantage of the small form factor/convenience of the 6G, so maybe the 4G/5G is a better option? my 4G is bulletproof and i have treated it like cr@p for a long time.
