Ipod nano 8GB won't synced duplicate file name

I reinstalled windows and itunes and now my nano 8GB will not sync, I get a message saying, "a duplicated file name was specified". How can I correct this?

Have you tried resetting your iPod or go through any of the 5 R's? You may also want to make sure your Library doesn't contain any duplicate tracks. If this is the case, then the iPod may be skipping duplicates. This may not be the issue, but it doesn't hurt to check. Got to the top of iTunes and select View-->Show Duplicates. Another question is something that may seem like a stupid one, but just checking all possibilites....do you have files in your library that are not music tracks? Such as videos?

  • IPod Nano 8gb Won't Sync Whole Library

I just got a new MacBook Pro and a new Nano and when I try to sync my library it syncs all but 2 songs and I dont know why. I am not out of space on my iPod it just won't put 2 songs on it and I don't know which ones they are. The first time it synced my iPod it synced all but one song now it is 2. All of my music is legit too. It is all imported from my cds or purchased from the iTunes music store so I know its not a corrupted file or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • What does 'ipod cannot be synced. duplicate file name specified' mean?

what does 'ipod cannot be synced. duplicate file name specified' mean?

I'm having the same issue. Old ipod 160 gig worked for years; it crashed. I bought a new "used" ipod. It starts reading all my music and syncs a few songs then crashes. I get the same screen you do about duplicate, etc. Very frustrating. I'm downloaded the new iTunes (not impressed). I've tried unchecking most of my music to see if that would help but it didn't. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Error "The IPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified"

When I drag a song from my ITunes library to my Nano, an error pops up that says "The IPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified." I've read on other boards that I should delete the IToner bundle, but there is no IToner bundle in ITunes plug ins, just a Quartz Composer Visualizer. ANy suggestions on how to keep the error message from popping up every time I add a song?

Drag the song from Library to the playlist window then drag it to Devices instead of directly from the Library.

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from the nominated folder that you have set up to sync photos to the devices.

  • IPod will not sync, "duplicate file name" - iTunes 10

I upgraded to iTunes 10 now my library won't sync! It syncs a few hundred songs (I have thousands) and then stops with the error "The iPod "blah" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
I've changed the usb port, restored the iPod, "Repaired" iTunes in Control Panel, Formatted the disc in Windows - done EVERYTHING every forum has suggested. And the error STILL occurs. It seems many people are having this same problem. Please APPLE help out here.

I'm having the same problem, I've been looking everywhere how to solve it, but I can't found a solution for windows. `Somebody help!

    - Under "Error -checking" cilck the "Check now..." button
After doing all of that, ITunes now works like normal for me.

  • Ipod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified (Ipod Classic)???

Whenever I plug my ipod classic in to itunes I receive the following message:
The ipod "ipod name" cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified
    I have tried the following:
    Renaming the ipod
Running Itunes as an Administrator with the UAC in windows 7 turned to the lowest level
Refreshing device manager to scan for hardware changes
    Restoring the ipod from Itunes
Resetting the ipod itslef (holding down the menu an dcenter buttons)
All of the above of course did not work. I did notice that when I would click ok on the "cannot be synched" message, Itunes would synch the ipod and I would see songs and podcasts on my ipod but they would not play at all.
Someone please help. Again, my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I have also tried this on my Windows 7 Professional 32 bit system with the same results. My itunes program on both computers is the latest

  • My itunes no longer recognises my ipod nano and won't sync.  Any advice?

My ipod nano is no longer recognised by itunes and won't sync.  Itunes is on a Window 8 computer and while windows sees the device, itunes won't?  Any advice?

    Hi caro101,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with your iPod nano not being recognized in iTunes.
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
If you see your iPod in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8) but not in iTunes under Devices, try these steps. Start at the top and work your way through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod.
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps.
This document is for Windows users and most older iPod models. See the following articles if you have this issue on:
    A Mac
An iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch)
An iPod nano (5th or 6th generation) (and you see an alert message in iTunes when you connect the device)
    Cheers,

  • My iPod Nano 8GB won't update to 1.2

How do i update my nano to 1.2.
It is currently 1.1.1 and indicates it is up to date. I have access to the 1.2, but I ave not had access through iTunes to update and I can not figure out how to update.
iPod nano 1.2 or later is required for the Nike+iPod.

Ok, alot of you all using the Nike sport kit keep misunderstanding the chart for this (also, the wording for the Nike sport kit may be a little misleading and needs to be updated). Your 2nd gen 8GB nano can not be updated to v1.2 because that is not the latest software for the 2nd gen. v1.1.1 is the latest one. The info listed for the Nike sports kit and the nano is in reference to the 1st gen nano, which current software version is 1.3 (it was 1.2 which is why the Nike thing says 1.2 or higher). This is why you can't update it. I believe they just haven't adjusted the info in relation to the Nike sports kit to include the 2nd gen nano. It is my understanding though that the kit works with the 2nd gen also, so no worries. Take a look at the link below and look closely at the different nano models and the software showing for it.

  • IPod Nano (8G) won't sync

I got an iPod Nano for Christmas and after I had installed it into my computer it was operating just fine. But a week ago I went to sync up some new music and it wouldn't let me. I got a messege stating that "an unknown error had occurred". I tried everything I know to do, but I still get that error message. I ran a diagnostics and the USB ports are working fine, along with everything else. However, it says that it isn't recognizing my iPod. I have two, and the other is having the same problem. Do you have any idea what may be happening, and how I might be able to solve the problem? I initially thought it was my iPod and so I sent it to Apple to have them check it out. But now that I'm having similar problems with my old iPod I'm beginning to think that it may be a problem with my computer. Can you possibly shed some light on this?

Had the exact same problem with mine. This may or may not be the answer to your problem but - the guy at the apple store told us that the new nano isn't equiped to be used with some of the older audio systems. Mind you mine is a Bose speaker docking station that we bought Christmas of 2005, but I digress. The problem is apparently that too much juice rushes through the Nano and fries it. They replaced mine since I didn't have it more than 90 days.
    Hope this helps...

  • The iPod cannot be syned.  A duplicate file name was specified

After upgrading to iTunes 9.2.1.4, my iPod won't sync any longer and I have absolutely no music left on my device. This is very frustrating. I have seen many people post the same issue, but no answers from apple support, can you at least give me some suggestions as to whether or not you are working on it.
Or has anyone found a solution

I had exactly the same frustrating experience, my ipod would not sync with itunes 9.2.1.4. I was about ready to throw the whole thing out, until I just happened to change the cord connection between the ipod and computer. I had previously used the USB cord that came with the original ipod (4th generation) that was about eight years old. Without thinking about the USB cord, I mistakingly picked up the USB cord that came with my itouch. I plugged in the new cord, and suddenly the ipod quickly restored and quickly synced with itunes. Much to my complete shock, after working on the issue for three days, reading all of the forums, and trying everything, everything was solved in a matter of seconds. I suppose that the explanation is probably that I had been using an old 1.0 USB, and the new cord was a 2.0 USB. Actually, I don't know, but the speed of the new cord is the only explanation that I have for you.

  • Ipod Nano 8GB Won't power on.

Brand new from Best Buy, little girl talked me into getting her an Apple Nano despite my better judgement. DOA out of the box. Never worked even after charging via supplied USB cable to several different machines including my server. At no time did we get a visual cue that the unit was indeed charging. Attempted the reset procedure several times with no success. If the unit is connected to USB at the time the reset is performed the PC will detect the hardware briefly. Itunes does not recognize or connect to the device.
Searching forums on the net results in ALOT of unhappy customers with the same issue. It looks like Apple may have a bad batch or 3 of Nano's. At least I can return my to Best Buy or refute the charges on my Credit Card if they give me any hassles.
My first experience with Apple products since 2000. I can't say I'm impressed or surprised. They still haven't learned to do proper quality testing BEFORE shipping a product out to sales.

Same exact thing is happening to me. It's like my 3rd Gen Nano is dead! My 2nd Gen Nano works just fine with my computer and USB. I bought mine at Wal-Mart and will return it if I don't get it working soon.

  • When i go to sync my ipod nano 5th generation i get an error saying "A duplicate file name was specified".  what do i do then?

I am trying to sync my iPod nano 5th generation to my computer and when i go to add music through iTunes i get the following message:
The iPod "X's iPod" cannot be synced.  A duplicate file name was specified.  Any ideas how to fix this?
On my computer (iMac) while in iTunes it is showing that the music is indeed on my iPod, but when i eject the iPod there is nothing there.

I have a 27" iMac with the latest version of iTunes.  I tried restoring my iPod and even removing and re-installing iTunes.  What eventually worked for me was plugging into my PC and restoring/reformatting it to work with my PC.  I don't know why it wouldn't work with my iMac, but now it seems to be working.
