Ipod nano a no show in itunes- but is in computer- newbie-Help!

My old system barely exceeds the mins required & i use dialup. Just downloaded & installed itunes 7.1.059 to find 7.1.1 is a new 5hr download away or another trip to the library. Brand New Nano.
Ipod shows up in my computer as removable disc. Shows in Device mgr as Ipod USB device. Using Ipod DX all green except for red-ipod (NOT) connected. Have tried reset, switch to disc mode & reset all to no avail. Ipod does not show up as device in itunes. Have tried several different usb ports-since it shows up in computer don't think that is really the issue. Itunes/ computer sometimes freezes after connecting ipod nano.Other than trying 7.1.1 any other thoughts on how to get itunes to see/find my nano?

Sounds like you are trying to connect your iPod to your machine "over the wire" (Network) probably cannot do that. You might want to invest in a relatively inexpensive Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card, for your actual machine (on the Apple approved list) that should cure your problem. Good Luck!

My ipod nano is not showing in itunes and I've tried everything that has been suggested by Apple.  I updated iTunes, I've reset the ipod.  I just want to download my songs!  Help! Please and Thank you.

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • New iPod nano doesn't show on iTunes and I'm tired of it.

Since Feb. 24, I've tried and tried to put music on my new iPod nano with no success, and I am extremely sick of it. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I know for some reason the ipod service doesn't show up and now I cannot connect my older iPod to iTunes. When i try to repair it, it says the service can't be stopped. My mom spent $200 on this iPod and I'm getting in trouble for not being able to put music on it. I've spent hours uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and trying to stop the stupid service and I cannot take it anymore. I've always had issues with iTunes and put up with it but this is ridiculous. The ipod shows on the computer but obviously doesn't work on iTunes. Can anyone please help?

I tried to stop the ipod service so I could plug the iPod and then restart it but it said error: the ipod service could not be stopped on the local computer. Error 1053: it said something about control and the service not being stopped in a timely fashion.

  • Ipod nano 4gb not showing in itunes or recognized as device

Out of the blue my nano is not detected as a device with my Windows XP. First I tested my USB port to see if that was the issue. I connected a mouse which was recognized and worked fine. I then got another sync cord thinking maybe my cord went bad and that is not working either. When I used my old cord I received an error message that I exceeded the power limit on my hub port. Which is why I thought my cord was bad. With the second cord I get no such errow however the ipod is charging but doing nothing else. I've gone out to my device list to see if there were any visible errors or anything diabled and its not showing any. But its also not showing an ipod or mass hub device like it normally would. Any thoughts on the issue would be greatly appreciated!

My ipod is doing the same thing. could you please tell me how you fixed it?

    Hello upthereds,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have purchased a windows 7, 64 bit laptop. I have a 2nd generation iPod Nano if I download the 64 bit version of iTunes will this cause problems with compatibility between my laptop, iTunes version 10.1 and the 2nd generation iPod Nano?
Yes it is compatible and should work. Let us know if you run in any problems though and we'll do what we can to help.

  • 1st gen iPod Nano won't mount in iTunes but will in Finder.

Cable: Fine -- works with other iPods. Other cables work fine with other iPods too.
iTunes -- uninstalled and reinstalled. No effect.
iPod nano -- downloaded iTunes for Windows, ran it in Parallels on the same mac, managed to restore the iPod nano (alas, as a Windows flavour one now).
Finder can still mount it as a disk; since iTunes on the mac won't recognise it... I'm beginning to wonder what on earth's happened to iTunes!
    Any ideas?

    Hello rgc123456,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines various steps that you can take and may lead to a potential resolution. The article refers to an iPod that is not recognized in both iTunes and Mac desktop, however most steps are applicable for your situation as well.

  • My ipod nano does not appear in itunes but it does appear in my computer

I was trying to synch a cd in my library to my ipod and my ipod no longer appears in my itunes, it does appear on my computer

Since noticing this problem, have you shut down or restarted your computer?  If not, I would shut down (power off) the computer.  Use this procedure to reset the iPod

Start up computer with iPod NOT connected.  Run iTunes.  Connect iPod.

  • Ipod nano does not connect to itunes and will not launch. Help please?

I was about to download some tracks onto my sons ipod nano when got the update message. I wish I had ignored it as my days have been taken over with scouring support, discussions and other sources to get itunes to launch. I have deleted, stopped, repaired and changed files. Nothing happens. No error message. Get the hour glass for couple of secs, thats all. Quicktime launches fine (also updated). Windows sees ipod hardware. What is going on? Granny is giving son an itunes gift card. As I have never allowed him to download tunes he is going to be thrilled............. except he can't use it!!!! I've spent way to many hours trying to find solution. Can anyone help me? Please?

Sometimes iPod simply won't work off certain USB hubs. If it works directly off the computer, then continue to use that. Your only other choice is to try out other hubs until you find one that works. Is it a powered hub?

  • My 6th Gen iPod nano is not recognised in iTunes, but is in windows.

Up until this morning my ipod was working fine with iTunes. I updates iTunes this morning and then a message came up stating that iTunes knew there was a device but it couldnt access it or something along those lines. It said if this problem continued I should reinstall iTunes. I evenutally reinstalled iTunes, I also restarted my iPod and stopped and starting the services. I tried to delete the Temp file in Local, but it wouldn't let me. I have tried restarting my laptop, plugging the USB into a different port. Nothing seems to be working.
Any suggestions on how to get it working again?

  • My ipod nano is being detected by itunes but cannot be identified properly. I have already been through the steps advised on apples website including reinstalling itunes and this has not worked. Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

I am using a HP laptop with windows 8.  I have installed the most up to date version of itunes.

Nevermind that first part as I forgot that nothing shows up for the Nano at all in Device Manager,
The 2nd half of my reply still applies:
Otherwise, try uninstalling all USB root controlllers from your system, rebooting your PC, and reconnecting your Nano. This root controller drivers will automatically be re-installed upon reboot.

  • IPod classic is not recognised by itunes but is by windows - please help

Hi there.... as title suggests my ipod as of today is refusing to be even recognized by itunes despite it being perfectly happy in my computer. I have tried every step that itunes support suggested with the end result meaning that it now has none of my music on it, so that went well.
Just before it properly went down I would get something along the lines of Cannot sync - \"Required File Could Not Be Found\" Any ideas?

Hi, I've been bothering with the same problem on the last two days, and also tried everything apple support had to offer, but to no effect.
By accident and pure luck, I got out of this mess by the following steps (that will maybe help you):
    Go to "My Computer".
Look out for the iPodClassic Drive.
    Open it.
    Open the folder "iPod_Control"
    Open the folder "iTunes"
Look for "extras". It's the iTunes Data Source.
    Open it.
There I was. iPod back in iTunes.
Hope it will work out for you, too.
    Cheers.
