IPod Nano buttons break too easily

I got my iPod nano in february/2012. January/2013 the home button broke down. It doesn't work at all. So, if I want to turn my ipod on, to work on it and start playing songs, I have to plug it, so it turns on.
This is annoying enough, but I got used to it. I actually tried to go to an Apple store to fix it, but I went on march/2013, one month later than its guarantee expired. Great coinscidence, it broke down exactly when the guarantee was off. Well, bad luck I had!
I kept using it, and in November/2013, the "volume up" button broke. Now its over, cant use my ipod at all!
These two buttons broke because of usage, and thats all. My ipod didn't fall to the floor or anything, it was because I pressed them, and they broke. Its ridiculous. I always had this image of apple having products that last for a long time. But this time, my ipod was good for only 20 months, and thats it, its dead now.
Congratulations, Apple, for having such a bad product. From now on, Im gonna think twice before buying anything from you.

Christian Milanez Preis

It uses flash memory, not an HD.
was told if you drop it it could break it easily
Yes, you can break it easily. It is an electronic device.

• My iPod Nano buttons don't work...

My iPod Nano buttons don't work even tho my Hold button in off when I switch my Hold button from ON to OFF my iPod shuts off then restarts by itself. My iPod is fully charged. I have updated my iPod to the latest update. I've tried to restart my iPod many times but since the buttons don't work it doesn't happen.

If you've reset and restored and the buttons still don't work, then it needs service. Either take it along to an Apple store, or send it in.

Hello! Not a problem, because you will get a Ipod Nano 1st generation as a replacement, not a new / latest generation.

• Ipod Nano Buttons not working??

I have an Ipod nano 1st generation atleast thats what my Brother says.
But any way, the Buttons stopped working after I went on a camping trip about 2 weeks ago. my friend was using it and when I tried to turn it on when I got home, it didn't work.
Any Ideas on what I should do??

This happened to me too, don't worry, it can be fixed. Hold down the center button and the menu button until you see the apple logo, then you can let go, it should unfreeze your ipod and make the buttons work again.

• Ipod nano scratches way too easy

I bought my black 4gig nano this past Saturday and I'm really disappointed with the fact that it already has so many scratches all over it. I've kept it in a very soft sunglasses cloth/bag and still it scratches. At this rate in two weeks it will look like a two year old ipod. I'm just unhappy that it is so delicate. I don't even want to put it in a bag or my pocket and that just defeats the purpose of having the thing. This is my 4th ipod and I have to say even though it works great, for the price I paid, $359 here in Australia, I would expect the exterior to last a bit longer than 4 days.
What do you guys think?
Alex

So how did you get the scratch across the screen?
Something must have come into contact with the iPod to cause it, it did not magically appear.
If the same event had happened to an iPod mini or regular iPod how do you know that they too would not have the same marks?
All iPod and similar electronic equipment are prone to cosmetic damage, it happens, but it is always caused by how it is used. At some point you have allowed something to scrape across the face of your iPod, I don't know what it was, but it happened.
All these people who complain about scratches could just be not very good at looking after things, they may think they are being careful, but these things don't happen on their own.
I have a black iPod nano and I have used it for nearly a week, it has no marks at all, butI'm sure it will do soon, when I accidentally bump it or drop it or do something that causes a mark, it will be my fault.
It's true the nano is not as tough as the mini, but it would not be the product it is if it was made from the same materials as the mini. Apple could not get the nano in such a small package if they used aluminium, and it would not look as good as it does.

• IPod Nano Buttons locked up

My son got a brand new black iPod Nano for X-mas and within 2 days the buttons locked up. I tried resetting it by holding the Menu and middle button at the same time...several times. That did not work. Then I hooked it up to iTunes and Reset it to factory settings. After it went thru the process it asked what language I wanted, but no buttons will work to select. It's now stuck on the Language screen. And no, the hold button isn't on. I don't know what else to do. Anyone with help?????

On 8 Jan 09, I contacted Apple help desk (as in a live person, not the recorded tech support recording) and asked for a "live" tech support person and actually got one! After walking me through steps other than the already tried, support tech said I would need a replacement. The next day (9 Jan 09), got a box from Apple from FedEx, put my IPod in it and off it went to Apple. Today (12 Jan 09) I came home from Physical Therapy and on my table waiting for me was my brand new IPod and a letter stating that my problem (non-functioning buttons and stuck on Language page) was a defect and enclosed was my replacement brand new IPod. It is working great.
Answer: If it's broken, talk to a live person at Apple and get it replaced.

• 5G iPod Nano playing podcasts too fast

My iPod nano has started playing podcasts at a faster than normal rate, while the time elapsed bar at the bottom (I do not know the proper term for this) progresses in normal time. My music plays normally. What is causing this, and is there a way to fix it?

Not exactly sure, but click your ipod on the itunes sidebar and go to the first tab. Uncheck the checkbox that says "Convert higher bit rate song to _______ AAC". See if that helps. If not, on your ipod go to Main Menu > Videos and look for a settings screen.

• IPod Nano fills up too fast

I have loaded about 1G of songs (300 or so songs)on my new iPod Nano 4G and it says I only have 300k memory left. Does anyone know how this happens and how to correct it?
Thanks.
Jared

Jared,
Are you sure that the music (and album art?) is really only 1GB? Using Apple Lossless, e.g., will result in larger files.
Anyway, you can restore the iPod to it's original state using the updater (on the iPod CD)...

• Ipod Nano using up too much memory

I plugged my friend's "Brand new" Nano into my Mac and it says that it is currently using 588 MB. The problem is there are no songs or pictures on it! So I guess my question is what could possibly be occupying the 588 MB? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No idea - but did you try to run the current iPod updater to restore it to factory conditions?

• [HELP] Ipod Nano Buttons Don't Work [HELP]

Okay, I had got my Ipod on December 25, 2006, but now I recently came by a problem.
I charge my Ipod, and then take it out the right way. When I try to listen to my songs, the buttons don't work, the only button that works is the HOLD SWITCH. This is getting on my nerves. Do anybody know how to fix this problem? I might have to get another one or send in for repairing. Thanks.

First try a reset...
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
Obviously if your buttons are truly broken the above won't work, but worth checking anyway.
Next, try restoring the iPod and see if that clears it up.
If not, then you may have an actual hardware failure.

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (Reuters) -- Apple Computer Inc. faced a lawsuit that alleged the company knew its Nano portable music player was defecti've but still decided to press on with the product's release last month.
The credit card-sized Nano, which replaced the best-selling iPod mini and is smaller than the traditional iPod, met with rave reviews. But users quickly started grumbling on Internet message boards that the device's screen scratches too easily.
Consumers have filed a proposed class action lawsuit in San Jose, California, on Wednesday, claiming the Nano scratched "excessi'vely during normal usage" and alleged Apple released the product knowing the problems and led consumers to believe it was durable -- forcing them to shoulder the cost of replacing defecti've music players.
The complaint blamed the Nano's defecti'veness on the film of plastic resin that covers it to protect it from damage. Previous versions of the iPod were coated with thicker and stronger resin, the suit said.
"Rather than admit the design flaw when consumers began to express widespread complaints ... Apple concealed the defect and advised class members that they would need to purchase additional equipment to prevent the screen from scratching excessi'vely," the complaint said.
A spokesman for Apple, whose main offices are in Cupertino, California, could not be reached for comment.
Sales of iPods account for nearly a third of Apple's total sales, and the company has a share of about 75 percent of the U.S. market for all MP3 players. The company's shares, which have soared thanks to overwhelming demand for iPods, hit a new 52-week high of $56.98 on Friday.
Apple admitted in late September that some iPod Nano screens cracked too easily, but blamed that separate issue on vendor quality problems and said it had occurred in less than one-tenth of percent of the Nano sold at that point.
The plaintiff named in the California lawsuit, Jason Tomczak, bought a Nano in September that he said quickly became so scratched he could not view the screen.
Apple replaced that device because of a battery problem, but the complaint said the replacement Nano also became so scratched that Tomczak decided to return it.
The lawsuit will require a judge to grant it class action status. Because Tomczak and other complainants were required to pay a $25 fee to return the Nano, the suit seeks the return of those fees along with the device's original cost and several other forms of damages.
The suit, filed by law firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, said Apple has "failed to remedy the problem in any meaningful way" and claimed Apple deleted postings on its Web site that relate to the scratching problem

• Charging iPod nano issues

I have no problem updating my iPod nano. I connect easily and iTunes opens and updates the iPod. When I initially connect, the charge signal comes on. However, after updating the iPod stops charging - even though it is still connected. The only way I can find to get it to start charging is to disconnect and reconnect a couple of times and it will eventually work. This usually causes iTunes to freeze on me but at least it starts the iPod nano charging. Is there some reason why the iPod nano would not continue to charge?

u could also try getting a dock or a wall charger.
i suppose, but i shouldn't need to. it's frustrating that the PC does charge the iPod - I just need to try several times and every time it works is when iTunes freezes up.
it does charge until the update is complete so it's almost like the completion of the update is telling the iPod that it doesn't need to charge any more also.....
