Ipod Nano, charges in Sounddock but no sound & no response to remote.

I have an ipod Nano 3rd gen. Works fine. Version is 1.1 PC (Settings>About>Version)
In the Bose Sounddock it charges but no sound at all. remote does nothing.
Any ideas. Thx!
Pimbley

I have a similar problem. I have had a Nano 3g for several months now and it's been working fine with my Monster car adapter and JBL Onstage. In the last couple of days, it suddenly stopped working in both. As soon as I plug the nano into either device, it freezes. I can't even do a reset while it's plugged into them. As soon as I unplug it, it is responsive again. I did the 5Rs and even downgraded from v1.1 software to v1.03, but that didn't change the behavior.

  • I get sound on my ipod touch with headphones in but no sound through....

I get sound on my ipod touch with headphones in but no sound through the built in speaker on my ipod touch. I got it in December so it's a new model.

    Welcome to the discussions,
can you see the speaker icon and the changing of the volume bar if you press your volume buttons?
Try this with the headphones plugged in and then unplug them and see if the volume for the speaker is displayed.
Is your volume limit set to max?
Set a volume limit for music and videos: Choose Music > Volume Limit and drag the slider to adjust the maximum volume

will a ipod nano charger work with a new ipod touch?

If you want to charge a touch gen 4 or less, then absolutly (It just might take a little longer than one specifically for the touch, because of watt dierences I think). I'm not sure about gen 5

  • IPod nano charges but is not recognized

    Good morning.
Im writing this topic, because I saw all the topics about this same problem, and none of them solved mine. I hope you can help me on this, so here is the thing:
When I connect my iPod to the 2.0 usb port, the ipod lights its screen, charges, but neither windows or iTunes recognizes it.
    Ive tried going to:
    1. Going to control painel
    2. Double clicking System icon
    3. Hardware < Manager of Dispositives < Universal USB thing
When Im there, I disabled the options at USB ROOT HUB on "Computer can turn it of dispositive to minimize waste of energy", as I have read on the other article to do, but it didnt help.
Here is something that Ive tried everything to understand, but I cant: In the same place (Hardware - System - Control Painel), when the iPod is connected at the computer, my ipod appears on that list! But it comes with an Exclamation Point right next to its name, and it says that it needs an software to make it useful.
    The real message is:
The drivers for this dispositive are not installed.(Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers of this dispositive, click at 'Reinstall Driver'.
Doesnt iTunes install it or whatever? What can I do to get my iPod recognized by the iTunes and computer, and then sync my songs?
    Please, I need someone's help!
    Thanks a lot,
    Andre.
    Ps:. 1. iPod nano, 1st generation, 2gb.
    2. Windows XP.

Did you ever find a solution for your problem. It is exactly the same as mine and I'm so frustrated with all the problems after spending so much money for something that is supposed to be fun.
I too have done everything suggested and still no answer. My computer will not install the driver or recognize the ipod exists.
If you did find an answer, please email me with anything you think may help.
    Thanks

  • Ipod nano charging problem

    I got ipod nano today.
After unpack I tried to charge 5 hours but it never charge up.
So I disconnected usb cable and tried to operate ipod even there was mark of very low charged mark on screen.
But it turned off suddenly with message of low battery.
So I had to charge again but I saw the big low battery sign with thunder mark on the center of screen with some buzzing sound and tiny bip sound when I connect ipod nano to USB port.
    Are these normal?

Bought an Ipod Nano today and I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM!!
I could not start it at all, charged it for like 4 hours, nothing helped.
What I though could do, was mount it to the PC, and the PC could feel it, and I could see the drive etc.
Now to the solution, I ran the update Ipod program, and updated the program in the Ipod, and RIGHT AWAY it lighted up and now it seems like it works?
Really strange.. Try to update yours to!

  • 2nd Gen Nano: Charges on Firewire, but not on USB.  Any clues?

2nd Gen Blue iPod Nano will charge on a Firewire connection, but not on a USB connection.
Thus...when connecting this Windows Format iPod to my PowerPC G4 through a USB cord, it won't charge OR interact with iTunes in any way.
Since it's a factory settings iPod,
it is well charged with zero content
I've reset the iPod (Center + Menu for 6 seconds) several times...it rebuilds, restarts, but is "still blind" to the USB connection (ie, won't charge; won't connect to iTunes).
I've also tried 4 different USB cords (which work fine with other iPods) with my "still blind" Nano, but....no go!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hmmm....Tried this; no go.
When plugging the USB 2.0 cord into a USB port, the iPod screen lights up, but the charging icon does not come on; and iTunes does not "see" the iPod. The iPod eventually sleeps. Changing ports (with nothing else plugged in other than power) wakes up the iPod, the screen LCD comes on, times out and goes off....and then the iPod sleeps. (Again...when I plug this iPod into a Firewire cord, the charging icon comes on and the iPod actually recharges. Its the only way to keep the iPod charged while I keep testing it).
    Hmmmm....

  • Ipod nano plays with headphones but not when plugged in to player

I have a nano 16gb 4th or 5th generation.  It has worked fine up until about a week ago.  It works if I plug in the headphones, but not when it is plugged into the car stereo or an iHome.  Any thoughts?

    If:
-you and your husband have the same generation iPod nano
-they both have the same latest software
-you tried the car stereo with the same iPod charging cord.
(with 32 pins connector I just wanted to make sure it is not the headphone plug)
this means that the problem is indeed with your iPod nano.
Since you also said that before last week everything worked fine, something must've gone wrong after that.
This could be software-related or hardware-related. Did you try to connect it to your computer? Does the computer recognise it? Can you still charge it?
If the computer does recognise the iPod it might be a good idea to 'repair' your iPod via iTunes.
Or try the Five R's: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/# (more or less the same for 4th and 5th gen)
If your computer does not recognise it, it probably needs to be repaired. But since it is 4th or 5th generation I guess the warranty is void already, and you'll have to decide how much this is worth to you or if you wouldn't want to buy a new one.

  • Help. about the ipod nano charged with usb 1.1

i just got the ipod nano. now i am charging it. according to the mannul, it will take 3hr to charge it by usb 2.0.
considering i only have usb 1.1, so my question is how long it wil take to charge the nano. until i wait for 6hr and the screen still shows do not disconnect. i can transfer the music and image to the nano. thanks.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how long the charge will take with USB 1.1, but I'd guess it would be way longer that "twice as long".
The "do not disconnect" will show as the display until you eject the iPod thru iTunes.
Now here the tricky part since I don't have a 1.1 USB. If you eject it thru iTunes, I believe the screen will show if it is still charging or "charged". So when you know you need to charge it, plug in to the `puter, then eject and leave it connected, to see what happens.
I do recommend getting the USB power adapter. For USD30.00, it is really worth it. Well, for me at least. I charge regularly (4 times a week) and only plug into my computer to add more music (maybe once a month). Your usage may be different, but it is so easy to come home and just plug it into the dock (plugged into the wall).

  • IPod Nano 6th Gen - Functional but white screen on pressing wake/sleep button

    Hi
I have an iPod Nano 6th Gen (out of warranty & applecare) - hasn't been dropped etc & never had any trouble.
This morning I got the white screen after unplugging it from charging.
I have tried hard reboot (power button + vol down). I have put it into disc mode (hard reboot + both volume buttons) and restored it to factory settings from itunes (10.6.3) . I've even put it into diagnostic mode and looked around to see if there were any tests I could do.
Functionally the ipod works ok - plays music, volume changes, and it will shuffle on shaking/ play pause on double pressing the power button.
The problem is when I switch off the screen by pressing the power button once - if I try to switch the screen on again I only get the white screen (although this doesn't affect music playing etc).
The way to get around this is either doing a hard reboot (which is a pain as it removes all my settings) or by switching off the ipod, waiting 5 minutes, then switching it on again (this preserves my settings). If I switch off the ipod and try to switch it back on within 5 mins, it's straight to the white screen.
The only other odd thing I noticed was that the screen was shaky/jolty and graphics not quite lining up etc, but this only lasted 10s and went once I started playing music...
Any ideas as to what is causing this? I'm guessing maybe a hardware problem but it seems strange that there is no white screen on switching on, just from waking.
It was a present from my dad and I'm very fond of it so would like to keep it/fix it if possible!
    Thankyou!

    Hello bfsf,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPod nano (6th generation) displays a white screen after waking from sleep. First let my say that you have completed some great isolation and troubleshooting steps on your own. Because the issue is still present after the fantastic troubleshooting you already completed, it may be necessary to have this iPod evaluated for service. If you would like more information on this process, please read over the information in the attached link.

  • Can I Connect an iPod Nano to Logitech Z-680 surround sound system?

I want to know if I can connect my  iPod Nano 16GB to my Logitech Z-680 Surround Sound System.  I already connect my MacBook to the system by plugging into the three plugs in the back of the controller then those three plugs merge into one plug which I then plug into the headphone jack on the side of my MacBook.  Since the battery life of my MacBook is 2 hours, at best, Id like to use my iPod to play music.  I tried plugging in the plug that I use for connecting my MacBook into the headphone jack of my iPod but I could not get any sound.  The single plug seemed a bit small for the iPod.  There are, also, two other jacks on the Logitech Z-680 controller, which are located on the front of the controller.  One is for headphones and the other I am not sure.  It has a musical note symbol above it.  I have never used that jack before.  Any suggestions/guidance is greatly appreciated.

This video guide should explain it:

  • Ipod nano charge port: is it universal?

This is a question about ipods in general. I have an ipod nano (not sure what gen, I think 1st) and I found an accesory for it I like that uses the charge port. But in the picture it is hooked to an ipod original/classic. Do ipods have universal charge ports aka will it probably work with my nano as well? Please help!

Yes, all three generations of the nano use the standard Dock Connector. They should work with standard charging accessories.
The only caveat is that they cannot sync over Firewire, but even if you did connect them to a computer's Firewire port, I think they may still charge even though they won't sync.

  • IPod Nano Sync with Mac, but iPod formatted for Windows

I finally changed to the Mac platform and all my iPods and iPhones were synced with a Windows based computer. While my iPhones were not a problem, my iPod Nano (4GB 2nd generation) seemed not be recognized by my iMac.
I can't seem to get my iMac to show the iPod under Devices to reformat it. Anyone have any advice to give?
I have plugged it in to a my Windows based work laptop and it seems to work fine. However I don't sync with that machine and I have already sold my old Windows based computer it was synced to.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have three iPods: 40GB iPod photo, 2GB black iPod nano and 1GB iPod shuffle. Each one has it's own playlist to auto sync songs from (technically, the 40GB iPod is synchronized manually, but the other two have playlists to sync automatically from). They each have different names so iTunes knows they're each different. So, you shouldn't have any trouble keeping just two iPods separate with your Mac mini or iMac.
