IPod nano connection to windows

I am the new novice owner of 6th generation iPod nano and have spent the 3 days since purchased trying to set it up on my computer. iTunes was already set up on my computer (used by my granddaughter) and when I connected my iPod all music from the library transferred, I also loaded from a cd, that was the last time anything went on it. Now iPod is recognised in devises on my computer but when I open iTunes I then get the dreaded code 21 windows is uninstalling code. I have tried everything recommended and am on the verge of smashing up the iPod and the computer. Please can someone help ?

Hi,
If the cable is not Apple's own cable but a cheap fake, it might not work.
First thing to co, check if itunes is updates to newest.
After updating to newest, then check the cable for any breaks.
If there are no breaks and still not recognizing, see if other usb ports work.
If ist still doesnt work, try resetting the nano by pressing and holding the on button and volume down button at the same time until restart.
If all fails, buy a new apple cable like the one from here:

I hope it helps because im new

  • Ipod nano shuts down windows as soon as is connected

I have just purchased an ipod nano 4th generation, downloaded itunes software with no problem, the nano is fully charged, this has been done on a different computer, my problem is that soon as I connect the ipod via the usb cable the pc shuts down and then tries to restart itself (no blue screen)it will not restart though whilst the ipod is connected, i have read that i should update usb drivers but am not able to see which one the ipod connects to as the shut down is fairly instant, has anyone else had this problem and how could it be resolved, need big help please

I've experienced the same problem since 21st November and attended the Ipod Genius Bar at Oxford Street and still no resolution. Today i have both my childrens Nano 4th Generation working/syncing etc.
The Nano identifies an apple ipod driver when connected to the computer for the first time when online. Itunes refuses to accepts this and shuts down, similar to your problem.
Without being online or opening itunes i opened computer management then device manager and disable the apple driver.
I then opened the assigned a USB Mass Storage Device driver to the Nano. I then opened the Nano in windows and found several files including calender etc on the disk. I deleted all the contents and disconnected it from the computer through the eject device feature.
I then opened Itunes and connected the Nano and it recognised it and required it to be fully restored which i did.
I have since connected it to Itunes Store etc and no problems.
By the way i have removed both Itunes & Quicktime no less than eleven times and reassigned drive letters to the Nano as well as re-create my itunes library on a seperate disk drive but the problem stems from the device drives and the programs/files already on the Nano.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPod nano: Connected to the iTunes on Mac OK but not visible in iTunes on Windows. But is visible in Windows explorer as a disc.

    Hi,
I have an issue with my iPod nano. I first connected it to the iTunes on Mac and synced perfectly, but now I am trying to connect it to the iTunes in Windows but iTunes can't see it. Even althought the iPod is visible in Windows explorer so it is connected to the PC. Don't know what to do next.

Well start with these articles and see if that gets you anywhere...

  • Ipod nano not recognised windows 8

I recently bought a new windows 8 computer in Australia and I have a ipod nano 6th generation and Ipad mini  both from Australia.
At first Itunes would not open untill I ran it as an administrator, now it works but will not recognise any of my devices. I am currently living in Canada and I am unsure if when I have reinstalled itunes it has made the software uncompatible. I think this is highly unlikely but im starting to wonder if anything is possible.
Upon connecting my device it comes up in the devices and hardware tab as faulty I have removed and added it several times reinstalled and restarted. When I open it in Itunes it tells me that I should reinstall itunes because there is an ipod that can not be recognised. I have no idea what to do I've tried everything I can think of and Ive racked my brains.
Is there anyway I can get these apple products to work or are they now useless because I've updated my windows to windows 8.

  • IPOD Nano Seen in Windows & Almost in  ITunes!

New IPOD Nano is seen fine in My Computer as drive F: (external hard drive is E:) and I can browse to it using Windows Explorer. Itunes starts up when I connect the Nano but it does not list in under Sources. I have done everthing I could find on the support site including the 5 R's, disabling all but core services using MSCONGIG, removing/cleanup install using MS utility/reinstall with Virus protection disabled, checking for possible power shutdown problem with USB. I even went so far as to use the XP System Restore utility to get me back to the day before bought the NANA, downloaded and installed latest version of ITUNES with no virus protection and disabled all but essential services using MS CONFIG. Does anyone have any other ideas on what I could try? I am running XP Media Edition.
Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP Pro

My nano would also launch itunes but not be seen in the source list. How I resolved it was I would shut down itunes, and while the ipod was still connected, do the reset on the ipod. When I reset it itunes would launch again, and this time itunes would show the ipod in the source list.

  • 4 GB iPod Nano connected to A/C source but not charging

I have resetted my iPod to factory settings and used all other common troubleshooting tips but...
My 4GB iPod Nano is connected to an A/C source but does not charge. Oddly enough, the iPod says its charging, but when I disconnect the source, the battery has not charged at all. When I use other people's A/C adapter and cable, the iPod charges.
I have used the same USB cable to connect to my computer, and it does the same thing. I can transfer data to and from my iPod using this cable.
Is it possible for a USB cable to transfer data but not power?
Im really confused, because the cable clearly works but no power is being transferred, either by my computer's powered USB ports or by my A/C adapter being plugged into the wall.

More time as in longer charging times, or allow the A/C adapter and cable to chill out for awhile?

  • HT203128 iPod Nano connectivity

My Ipod Nano (purchased xmas 2013) is not being recognised by iTunes or my pc.  It is charging through the USB port (which is 3.0) but not visible, therefore nothing is syncing.  Any suggestions?
I have had several issues with it.  It will also not charge through the adapter, it would not turn off.  I get a message stating accessory not recognised.  And finally I am no longer able to sync

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Ipod Nano Connection Issues

I am having trouble getting my ipod to connect with my PC.
It has worked previously, as i have transfered 3gb of songs to my Ipod Nano so far.
However now when i try to connect my Ipod to my computer, i plug it in, and nothing happens. I can play with my ipod, there is no "Do not Disconnect" symbol appearing.
However, if i actually bend down the plastic part of the connector side to my ipod, so that it is kind of a 10° angle to my ipod (thus bending the connection isnide my ipod i guess) it reconises it.. Do Not Disconnect appears and it appears on itunes.
However i dont want to be constantly bending the connector down so that i can transfer songs, beacuse not only is it inconvenient, but it can't be good for my ipod.
I have no idea why its doing this, I have reset my ipod, re-installed, updated ipod software, tried different ports, i also tried my mates ipod lead to see if it was mine that was faulty. this didnt help, same problem.
I understand i can send it in for a service, but wasn't sure if this would come under servicable conditions?
Would appreciate some help that doesn't require sending my ipod away, but if there is no other choice, then i guess ill have to.
    Thanks in advance

Hey quick question what exactly did you bend to make your ipod sync because im going nuts. I know this question is old but if u solved yuor problem let me know. Contact me at:[email protected]

  • Ipod Nano previously on Windows, want to use on a Mac now

Is it possible to use a previously used Nano from a Windows PC to my new Macbook?

Strictly speaking using a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac isn't supported however many people use one without any issue. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac; however, Apple currently only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. Also if you keep it Windows formatted you won't be able to update the software on the Mac, you'll need to connect it back to a PC when a new version is released. If you have all your songs on your new computer you can restore the iPod on the Mac this will erase and reformat the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7

  • Installing ipod nano on a windows computer after it has been used on a Mac

I am trying to get an ipod Nano to work on windows after it was originally synched to a MacBook.
I have iTunes 8, and we've already unistalled and reinstalled it once. iTunes recognizes the iPod, and says "iTunes has detected a Macintosh formatted iPod. You must restore this iPod before you can use it on windows." When I try to click the "Restore" button in iTunes, it generates an error message that says the iPod cannot be updated because I'm not connected to the iternet....but I am.
    Ideas?

PS I know that sun's Jar files are supposed to be
    executable on win32 platforms with JRE2 installed;
however, I tested it out on some computers with that
runtime installed(by the installer progrma from sun)
and for some reason or another, it didn't do anything
when I clicked on the jar archive...That's because you didn't have the main-class in the manifest file.
That's the easiest way, you have a jar and a double click on win and it runs.

  • Ipod nano connects then disconnects

Since installing ITunes 11 my IPOD Nano A1236 goes through the following sequence when connected to either my XP computer or my W7/64 laptop: "Connected,"  "Synchronizing,"  "Ejecting" and "OK to Disconnect."  It does not appear as a device in ITunes. In Device Manager on the laptop, the Apple Mobile Device Driver is reported to be operating correctly.  The Windows USB Mass Storage Device reports "Windows is uninstalling this device(Code 21)."  The IPOD does charge its battery through the USB port, and the playlist still plays.  What's going on here?

  • Ipod Nano rejected by Windows XP

I too have a problem. I bought an Ipod Nano but when I plugged it inot my laptop which runs Wndows XP it started searching for "new Hardware". I then received a message from Windows telling me not to load the Nano hardware as it had not passed the "logo" test and could therefore disrupt my operating system either immediately or in the future.
How can I overcome this issue? I really want to use my Nano so there must be some way I can connect it to this operation su=ystem without it stuffing everthing up. Is there a clear, easy way to overcome the issue?
I am not a good techno person so clear instructions would be greatly appreciated.

+I then received a message from Windows telling me not to load the Nano hardware as it had not passed the "logo" test+
Was that one of the messages mentioned in the following document? (Usually the sort of thing mentioned in the document crops up on an itunes install, rather than a hardware install, however.)

  • IPod nano connection probs / gotta format every time / iTunes erases songs?

    Hi there,
I got a 1GB nano just about a week ago and I keep having connection problems (I'm using an Acer TravelMate Laptop running Win XP).
I have to format the nano, un- and re-install iTunes + the iPod Updater and and restore my iPod EVERY TIME I want to upload some songs. So the formatting etc. solves the problem only temporarily. If I try to update the songs on my iPod after some days, iTunes seems to erase everything and I have to go through the whole procedure again. This is so annoying!! Can anyone help?
    iPod nano 1GB Windows XP

First, make sure you are running the latest versions of your OS. You should be running the latest service pack for whatever version of windows you are running. Here are the basic system requirements as stated in the Apple store:
    Mac Requirements
    USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
    iTunes 8 or later
Internet connection (broadband recommended; fees may apply)
    iTunes Store account
    PC Requirements
    USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3 or later)
    iTunes 8 or later
Internet connection (broadband recommended; fees may apply)
    iTunes Store account
Second, start the process with the iPod connected directly to the system, not through a USB hub. See if this changes things for you.
Also make sure you have gone through the basic troubleshooting as stated here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano/
If problems persist, it may be the installation of iTunes that is causing trouble. Uninstalling iTunes and re-installing could clear things up. Here is a link to instructions on removing iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Of course, start with the easy things first and work from there. Hope this gets you running smoothly.
