IPod Nano Connector

I have had an iPod Nano 1st generation plugged in to a Kensington dock to play through my stereo receiver. A while back I started hearing the sound drop out of one speaker and intermittent cutouts. I tried checking everything and eventually bought a new Belkin dock.
Same issue, so it's not the dock connector. I learned that if I touched the iPod while plugged in the sound would break up, and any movement would make it worse.
I cleaned the contacts as best I could but the issue still remains. I can wriggle it and get it to play normally through both channels but it will eventually cut out.
I just want to listen to my music and don't want to buy a new iPod when the one I have plays perfectly well except through the dock set up.
Any help?
Thanks...

I appear to be having the same problem as well. I got a third gen through American Express rewards as a Christmas gift for my dad. He just called me up and as we was trying to get it setup, he said the cable will not fully engage. He says it looks like plastic cover on the face of the Nano is causing the connector housing to be pushed down and go out of alignment. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet because he lives a couple of hours from me.
I wasn't sure wether to go to Apple or Amex since I got it through them so I called Amex and they are going to replace it, but I am wondering if it is a manufacturing defect and the new one is going to have the same issue. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. When I get the unit in my hands I may take it to the local Apple store before I send it back just to see what the guys there think.

  • Does iPod Nano work with Camera Connector?

Is the iPod Nano able to work with the Camera Connector? How about the Belkin Camera Connector or Belkin Media Reader?

6GB nano we might see in a year, a 20 GB nano is presently only a fantasy and while eventually possible, we won't be seeing it anytime soon. To my understanding the belkin media reader uses firewire to communicate among other things so no it wont work with the Nano. And of course the Nano is windows preformatted windows compatible.

  • New Nano and iPod Camera Connector?

I just bought the new iPod Nano (3rd generation) and the iPod Camera Connector.
The iPod is not recognizing the camera connector. When I connect the camera connector to the iPod, I get this message: "Unsupported accessory is not supported".
The genius Apple salesman assured me that it would work. Meanwhile, the camera connector works fine with my iPod Color 60GB model.
Can anyone help me out? Has anyone tried this? I have a funny feeling, (even though the salesman assured me it would work.) that it is not compatible.
    Thanks!

None of the new iPods (Classic, Touch, or 3rd gen Nano) support the camera connector. Based on the fact that other dock connecting accessories which worked with the older iPods don't work with the new ones, it's probably a hardware difference in the dock.
Apple has not announced any new camera connector that will work with the new iPods. Sorry.

  • IPod Nano in Mini connector

Will the iPod Nano plug into a dock or other accessory originally built for the iPod Mini?

If the mini accessory plugs into the dock connector that you would use to sync to your computer, then yes. If it uses the headphone port and the data input port that is next to it on the mini, then no, because the nano does not have this port.

  • Why has the new ipod nano no connector for a speaker dock?  The white blank at the bottom looks as if one was intended, but then there were design problems?

  • IPod Nano using the new Camera Connector

I resently purchased an iPod Nano and a new Camera Connector direct from Apple. Before I did this I checked the compatability issue with both the camera and the camera connector, and with the Nano and the camera connector. All the adds at the Apple store state that the camera connector works with all ipods that have a color screen. When I connect them the screen on the ipod states "The currently attached accessory is not supported by this iPod". They advertise that you can store 25,000 photos in a Nano. Did I waste my money on a Nano and camera connector. (I already had a 4G 20GB iPod with an older Belkin Camera connector)

Yes, you may have wasted your money on the camera connector. The problem is that the camera connector has been out for a while and, at the time it was made, the only color iPods were full sized ones, and the camera worked with them. So, what they advertised was true up to the time until the Nano was released.
Now, Apple has released the Nano, which technically is a color iPod, and it dosen't work with the camera connector. The problem is that they haven't changed the advertising for other products to account for limitations of the Nano yet.

  • Ipod nano 4 th generation freezes when i put nike connector

ipod nano 4 th generation freezes when i put nike connector. please help! I restarted, i updated, i restored it!
    thanks!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • IPod nano car stereo connectors

Does anyone know if any of the various third party car stereo connection kits are compatible with the iPod nano? They advertise that you can control iPods and iPod minis directly from the stereo controls, but they don't mention the nanos. Is the interface for controlling the nanos through the dock connector the same as that of the iPods and minis?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean to ask if the iPod nano and the iPod mini use the same type of connector? Then, yes, they do use the same type of connector.
However, there are a couple of differences between the two iPod models. For example, if you have a FireWire cable connected to your dock or an iPod cable with a FireWire connection, you will only be able to charge your iPod nano. The iPod nano requires a USB connection to sync songs or pictures.

  • Ipod nano, my new radio connector wont work ;0

I have a 1st gen. ipod nano. i just bought one of those ipod radio connectors that plugs into the dock connector of the ipod and is wired to a little control pad then headphones are pluged into that. My problem is when i plug it in it doesnt show up a spot to click RADIO on the main screen. I took my moms ipod nano 1st and plugged it in and it came up with the spot to click on radio and works fine. Does anyone know how to get it to work with MY ipod?
    I tryed:
unplugging and blowing out the connectors
    restarting my ipod
and yet it still doesnt show up.
just like to add that i am not talking about a transmitter it acctually plays radio threw the ipod headphones
and the it is APPLE brand so i dont understand why it wont work with my ipod at all.
anyone that can help is greatly appreciated
    thanks alot
    -gabi

First of all, are you up to date with iPod software?
On your iPod look under settings/about, and it should read 1.3 for the latest.
Then, when you connect the radio go to settings/main menu and turn radio to 'on'. The radio option will only appear in the menu when you have it connected.
    Now does it work ok?

  • Unusual iPod Nano Dock Connector

My iPod Nano 4GB Black (Second Generation) appears to have an unusual dock connector on the bottom. All the accessories that seem to be available have a wide connector on them bu the connector on my iPod Nano is very small.
Does anyone know why this is please?

where did you buy the "iPod"? To know if it really is an iPod, look on the back, it should have an Apple logo. Look for a serial number. Does it have a click wheel? Do you need to use iTunes to update it? Is the headphoone port to the right of the iPod Dock connector? If you answered "no" to any of these or the "iPod" in question does not look like others, you don't have an iPod. I suppose it would be possible for someone to put iPod software on a fake, but it would be hard because the iPod updaters are no longer available and the 2nd Generation Nano just used iTunes to update it, not another program. The cable you use to connect the device should be from Apple and should be white. The wide end that plugs into the iPod is called the "30 Pin Dock Connector" and should have a small rectangle with a line through it (both grey). The USB A end (the smaller one that plugs into your computer) should have the Apple logo and the USB symbol. There should be no printing on the cord. if the iPod in question does not resemble ANY of this, it's a counterfeit.

  • Is the ipod doc connector to usb cable the same as the cable that comes with the ipod nano?

I'm trying to play my ipod nano through a pioneer car stereo using the usb port and it is not working.

I don't know but I wouldn't plug  it into the car again because it might not be compatable and my friend broke 2 iPodsom pluging them into a car.

  • 6th Gen ipod nano not showing up at all.

I recently bought an ipod nano 6th gen off Amazon and it turned on and is function fine, but I can't sync it with my current library. I'm using the same cord I use on my ipod touch so I assume it's fine there, I've just updated my itunes library and I've already searched through device manager, My computer and itunes to find the device, but it's not showing up anywhere. Any help please?

Me neither.  I know the USB cable works okay with your iPod Touch, but can you try another cable just to see if that makes a difference?
Also look at the Nano's dock connector to make sure it is clean and clear of debris or damage.
And if nothing else, return it while you still can for a refund or replacement.

  • IPod nano will not charge when plugged into a computer, or power adapter

This is an 8gb iPod nano 4th gen. Today, I was playing it on the stereo, and it ran out of juice, so i plugged it into my computer to charge. It would flash the "Connect to Power" screen, then turn off, then turn on, showing the apple logo, a few seconds later it goes to the main screen. Almost immediately, it shows the "Connect to Power" screen again, and turns off. This cycle just repeats over and over again.
I have tried two different usb cord, and all of the ports on my iMac, in addition to a AC adapter/charger. Each time warranted the same results. I have tried the menu + center button reset multiple times, but to no avail. I would reformat it, but alas, neither itunes nor finder will recognize it.

Sounds like a dock connector problem on the Nano, check it and make sure there is not debris, lint, etc. and clean it if there is. Also, check for bent/damaged pins.
