Ipod nano crashed and wont restore

I have the ipod nano touch screen.  I've had issues with it.  I tried using it in my car with ipod cord.  The car wouldn't accept it.  It then powered down and wouldn't come on.  I took it to computer, plugged it in and it said it needed to be restored so I did.  Now its in a loop of trying to restore it then can't recover it.

Hey Jenlink,
To troubleshoot this issue, I'd try the following solutions in this order:
Disconnect and reconnect your iPod to iTunes, and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again.
Restart your computer and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again.
Try connecting your iPod to a different USB port, and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again. Connecting to a USB 2.0 port is recommended. For Windows computers, refer to Identifying USB 2.0 ports on your computer for instructions.
Remove any USB devices not manufactured by Apple that you have connected to your computer (it is not necessary to remove your keyboard or mouse). Then, attempt to restore or update the iPod again.
Update to the latest version of iTunes, and then attempt to restore or update the iPod again.
Try to restore or update the iPod again using a different user account for your computer. For example, create a new test user account on the computer with admin rights, and with iTunes installed, try to restore/update the iPod. For instructions on how to do this, follow steps under the heading "Restore using a new user account" inthis article.
Try disabling Disk Use on your iPod and attempt to restore or update the iPod again. If that doesn't work, try enabling Disk Use on your iPod and attempt to restore/update. Refer to Putting iPod into Disk Mode for instructions.
If using a Windows PC to restore or update your iPod, try to reregister ".dll" files as described under "Solution 1" in iTunes displays -50 error message when syncing iPod on Windows XP
If using a Windows PC, try to update or reinstall your Windows USB drivers, referring to the section titled "iPod only: Updating, or in some cases reinstalling, the drivers for your computer's USB interface may resolve this issue."
iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error

Though the article specifically mentions error numbers, even if you're not seeing them the troubleshooting steps should still be valid.

    Try to reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Ipod nano 5th gen wont restore

My iPod nano decided to not charge or sync, and then when I decided to show up on my macbook pro, I clicked restore and half way through the restore it decided to drop out and wont come back up on the computer. I have tried plugging it into another MacBook Pro, a Dell PC and same thing. Also when I do plug it in it turns into a white screen and shows a tick and ok to disconnect and doesnt even come up on the Mac.
    Any ideas from here?
    Thanks

If you have not already, do a Reset on the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
In case the battery is drained, do the Reset while it is connected to power (USB port or power adapter).  If that does not help, try putting it into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
If Disk Mode works, shut down (power off) the MacBook.  Disconnect all other USB devices and connect the iPod to a direct USB port on the MacBook.  Start up the MacBook, and run iTunes to see if the iPod is recognized.  iTunes may prompt you with an "iPod in recovery" message.  Try to do a Restore again, if possible.
Also, to rule out a bad USB docking cable, try a different cable or use that cable with a different device, if possible.  Since you tried it with different computers, I think you've ruled out something wrong with the USB port on the first MacBook.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall for the network problem.
Also for the original problem try the following if Ana's suggestions does not work
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting?  After leaving the Nano to sit and charge for at least 30 minutes, try resetting it by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. You'll want to make sure the Hold Switch is not in the On position as well.

  • Repeatable iPod Nano Crash

When I add over approximately 3000 short (5 to 10 seconds) MP3 tracks audio tracks, each with embedded artwork, to the iPod Nano (3G)... it CRASHES. The crash occurs as soon as I scan through Cover Flow. I have spent about 4 days restoring, using different computers both Mac and PC, using over ten different iPod Nanos (4 and 8 GB, and completely different content. The result is the same each time and a few of the iPods Nanos would not come back to life.
No problems with the same content on the iPod Nano (2 BG) iPod, iPod (5G), or iPhone.
I confirmed that the number of tracks was only limited by available space with an Apple Systems Engineer and Apple Tech Support numberous times. I am not sure if it is a buffer problem, corruption in the art database, or simply one of those things most people don't do, so the problem rarely manifests itself.
I need to get to the bottom of this as the content will be sold commercially and we cannot take the chance of finding our customers with dead iPods.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been in touch with Apple tech support and was advised the issue was passed along to engineering. It has been almost two weeks and I am still waiting for a reply. My client has approved the content (outside of the Ipod Nano issue) and wants to begin manufacturing on Monday. I am looking for any thoughts from anyone that might have some thoughts as to what is causing the crashing.
We are staying with MP3 for users (however few) who are using MP3 players.
The reason I say "dead" is that so far several of the iPod Nanos could not be reset and were returned to Apple.

  • Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!
Someone somewhere must know a way around this........ as the London apple store "has never heard of this problem"

My Ipod Touch still contains all the original music. HELP!!  How can I download music from my IPod Touch and somehow get it into my computer (ITunes Lirbary)...... Can I down load my content to a computer that does not have ITunes installed?

  • Formatted my new iPod Nano 4Gb and my application can't find the Device ID

    Hi,
Just bought a new Nano 4Gb, updated it to 2006-06-28 (1.2) and of course it couldn't be recognized by Windows after that. Followed the instruction and formatted the Nano and made a Restore, worked fine!
Now to my problem, when using my application Anapod Explorer (from www.redchairsoftware.com) it can connect to the Nano but it says the iPod don't have any Device ID so it can't authenticate to the iPod...
Anyone more who is using this superb software?
It seems like if some information is missing in the iPod after the formatting of it...
    Please advice!
    Best Regards

    Additional Information:
Since some information seems to be missing on my iPod Nano 4Gb I compared the files with my iPod Video 60Gb.
    Comparing the directories: [driveletter]:\iPod_Control\Device
on my iPod Nano 4Gb and my iPod Video 60Gb
    iPod Nano 4Gb:
The file SysInfo is empty, containing no data when opened in Notepad.
    iPod Video 60Gb:
The file SysInfo is of 1KB and another file named "_unlocked" is present.
The information in the SysInfo file is:
    BoardHwName: iPod M25
    pszSerialNumber: JQ6040HFTXL
    ModelNumStr: MA147
    FirewireGuid: 0x000A270014E1CDBA

    osImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
    iPodFamily: 0x00000000
    updaterFamily: 0x00000000
I have done the diagnstic test on the Nano and there are no errors and the iPod Nano is functional but I can only use iTunes to load it with music, I can't use the wonderful Anapod Explorer.
    Another thing:
When connecting my iPod Video to my computer it shows up with a drive looking like an MP3 player, when connecting my iPod Nano it shows up looking like an ordinary disc drive.
