Ipod Nano dead after 1 hour of first use

I am so sad - I got a nano this weekend for my birthday and after I charged it fully and began to try to use it, it completely DIED in less than an hour. I had successfully loaded about 60 songs onto it, and had only listened to 3 before this happened. All I see is the Apple logo, on a dark screen, in greyscale. Any attempt to manually reset or put into disc mode, or put into diagnostic mode is futile. My computer is no longer recognizing it, so I can't update or restore. This is my first experience with Apple and I was wondering if anyone else is having this exact same problem. I have requested service, and was also wondering how long it will take for me to get it (or a new one) back?

Saira,
Sorry for all of your problemss. Apple products are great- and i have used them for a long time- but there will always be problems dealing with electronics. Couple of issuesi can think of:
1. Some Windows USB ports can't fully charged, so make sure you plug it into the wall jack to charge.
2. Make sure you have the latest Itunes for windows- they just released a new one the other day. 5.0.1
3. Follow the instructions on the Nano help site
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
It will give you helpful ways of trying to trouble shoot.
4. Nothing else works: go to your nearst apple store and have them look at it. If there is not one near you, try to return it before the 14 day grace period is up. they will replace it for the same or another model. Be sure to keep your receipt.
hope this helps,
michael

  • HT1495 I use method 3 to sync my iPad to my desktop which is used to sync my iPod nano. After I done all the steps, how will I sync the separate library to my iPad? I don't see any sync option and don't even see my iPad on the device.

My iPad is registered in a different account.im having difficulty installing iTunes on my laptop so when I read that multiple iPod,iPad etc can be sync in one computer,I tried making a separate library on my desktop which have an iTunes already.i used my desktop for my iPod nano. After following the instructions, I don't know how to sync it with my iPad now connected on my desktop.i can't see a button or option to sync. And I don't even see my iPad recognize on the device.pls tell me what am I missing. I already sign in so my desktop will be authorize.

All devices only sync what you select to sync.
If you do not want all of the music, then simply do not select all of the music to sync.

Your nano would really have nothing to do with it at that point. It is really something between iTunes and whatever server out there on the internet that it is trying to connect to for the update.
Try posting this one in the iTunes forum, they might have a solution for you.

  • 2nd Generation iPod Nano Dead?

My 2nd generation iPod Nano was working fine this morning. Played music as it did for all these years. Later this afternoon I turned it on and the display would not light up. No music played. Seems like the battery is totally drained. Plugged into USB wall charger (from Apple) and get no indication whethr or not this thing is charging. Same when I plugged into my Mac. Does not show up in iTunes or on the desktop.
Is my iPod Nano Dead? Has the battery bitten the dust and cannot be recharged again? It's a shame that none of these iPods have user replaceable batteries... Other than being dead I am quite sure that if I could put in a new battery it would work again. I don't like spending a lot of money for something that does not last me at least 10 years.

If the iPod's battery has been fully drained it can at least 30 minutes or more of charging for the iPod to show any signs of life and even after that a hard reset might be required. To reset the Nano, press and hold both the Select?Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Does iPod nano automatically turns off if not used in 2 minutes?

Does iPod nano automatically turns off if not used in 2 minutes?
this is the questions tha runs my mind bcoz I just bought it about 2 weeks ago and just this recently I noticed that it automatically switches off after 2 minutes if remained untouched even if i did not set the sleep mode. Well, it normally functions coz during playing a song it does not sleeps but by the time pausing the song and after two minutes the nano switches off, but if you press any key it goes back again and you can play the paused song again. is this thing normal? i am really bothered by this. please help me THANKS A LOT

I recently bought a 2nd Generation 8Gb iPod Nano and can state for a fact that if you pause a song for exactly two minutes the device will turn off, probably to save batttery power. I tested it three times already and clocked it.
However, I also noticed that my iPod also seems to turn off by itself (even when sleep / timer is not selected) when I'm shuffling through songs using the forward/next and/or rewind/back buttons repeatedly.
Is this normal, or just a bad coincidence?
I've tried the 5 Rs but the problem persists. It really annoys me because I have the habit of skipping lots of songs.

Is it not charging at all? Did you try to reset? If YES to both, request for a replacement of the ipod. Battery or the unit itself is defective. Cheers!

  • Recharge iPod nano 3G after each use, or wait until flat before recharging?

In order to optimise both the capacity of an iPod nano 3G battery (how long it lasts between charges) and its longevity (how long it will last before it has to be replaced) should the battery be charged up to full after every significant period of use (typically 2 hours playback in my case) or should charging not happen until the battery is flat or almost flat?
Also, does anyone have any thoughts on my other iPod nano 3G question, which is at:

  • Ipod nano stuck after use win8 update

    hi all ,
i just update my ipod nano by win 8 , but after update screen stuck there & show "ok to disconnect "  , try to plug back system message show is on recovery mode  , restore few time still same error occur  , anyone know how to solve ?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My videos I took using my ipod nano disappeared after syncing.

I had 5 videos on my ipod nano that I took yesterday. When I hooked my ipod up to my computer (Toshiba) the ipod did the sync thing. The videos disappeared off my ipod. I have no idea where they went because I cannot find them on my computer or on my itunes. Can some please help me?

    Hello ctay122,
Have you checked your iPod to see if they are still there? Videos you take on the iPod are not automatically copied to iTunes. They need to be manually copied to your computer through Windows explorer. See this article for more help and instructions.

  • Ipod Nano stalling after adding song to On-The-Go Playlist

I'm using a 2GB Ipod Nano and I just bought it less than a month ago. Ive noticed that the Ipod stalls or lags for 3 seconds whenever I do this procedure:
    1:Play a song.
2: Go back to the previous menu and add a song to the On-The-Go Playlist
3: Scroll or do something else
The Nano lags for 3 seconds after I add the song to the playlist. Thinking that it is a hardware problem, I went to the Apple Service Centre and exchange for a new Ipod. The problem persists. Ive noticed that this problem is non-existent in 4GB Ipod Nano models. Is this a technical glitch? Does it happen to all 2GB ipods? Can anyone help me out please?

not on mine-i dont think but go to brokenipods.com
    they will help you

  • IPod nano disconnects after iTunes opens

Product: iPod nano Model MC696C; OS: Windows 7 Home; iTunes new install 20150412.  This is the first install of iTunes on this computer. The iPod worked fine on previous XP computer for several years. Now, when I plug in the iPod, it connects, iTunes opens, recognizes the iPod, and after a few seconds the iPod disconnects. The same thing occurs on a restart with the iPod plugged in beforehand. I need to reorganize and replace some songs on the iPod.

    Hi chillibob,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your iPod. If you are having issues with your iPod not being recognized or being disconnected shortly after connecting it to iTunes on your Windows machine, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
