Ipod nano dim screen?

Okay, I had a 4th generation iPod nano for about two years, and then I got the fourth generation iPod touch. My brother had the iPod nano after me, but he left it in his pocket on accident and it went through the washer. I did the whole rice for 24 hours thing, but the iPod died while it was in the bowl of rice, and when I took it out, I thought that it was broken, so I just shoved it in a drawer and forgot about it. I found it in a drawer a couple of days ago and for some reason it had a little battery and it was clicking and the screen was REALLY DIM. I screwed around with it for awhile and charged it and stuff, and the backlight would come in and out. If I left it sitting there for awhile, it would be fully lit for like 30 minutes, and then go out again. This morning the screen stopped working completely, and it was still really really dim. I was able to sync it and restore it and I've tried rebooting it, to no avail. It plays music and video perfectly fine, everything works GREAT, except for the screen. The screen brightened up for a couple of seconds when it was recognized by the computer but I touched the click wheel and it dimmed again.
If I took it to the Apple store, would they still fix it, even if it IS from a couple of years ago? If so, how much would it cost? Thanks ahead of time.

I would recommend taking it in to your local Apple Store to see what the people at the Genius Bar can do for you.

    Hello Kimberly j,
You can either set up a service request with Apple through this or you can bring it into your local Apple Store/AASP and have them set one up for you.

Another option would be a 3rd party repair company who would be able to fix the iPod at a much lower cost.

Have you tried doing a Reset (restart) in the iPod?

In case the battery is low on power, you can try this while the iPod is connected to power.

  • IPod Nano white screen of death - RESURRECTED! :D

Alright, here's the deal...A friend of mine has a new iPod Nano and gave it to me because it had stopped working, and was hoping it was worth something to recover. Sorry about the long story!
It _wouldn't_ turn on. But, when connecting it to the computer via the USB dock cable, it comes on for a few seconds on a grey-whitish screen. Then turns back off, reboots, and tries again. Step 1 step 2. Nothing.
Although, 'Diagnostics mode' or whatnot it is, does work however. It would still be a faint grey screen, but whiter and more vibrant, as if it's saying "Hey, I'm alive! I'm alive!!!" and I can go through settings and make it (sometimes) change colors, and reboot the iPod.
I was thinking since iTunes never recognized it (It was plugged in the whole time) that I would drown in just for the sake of it.
Well, 3 hours later after attempting to kill the poor thing, it... resurrected itself.
I'm serious, it really seems to have unbelievably done it. When turning it on, I get 2 beeps, but no restart loop, the LCD stays on the white screen though, BUT, here's the good thing.
NOW, I hear the system 'click' sounds when using the buttons and such that it's going through the menu, good news so far! It seems like it because after the 'boot' sequence (it appears to boot very fast, strangely).
The good thing is (kinda) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1517571?start=0&tstart=0 ... So I suspect that somehow, this method of submerging it under water, letting it dry, blowdrying it, and then leaving it in the heat, somehow restored the SD chip inside of it... possibly only for now... I'm going to use this moment to hopefully get all data off the device, and see for one last time if it's fully restorable...
I have the power! Ok, so I hooked it up to the wall charger (just put the wall connector on the USB cord) and it now beeps two times, and after about 30 seconds or so, I get to the main menu, screen still white, but I can certainly hear the click letting me know I'm 'navigating' the iPod. It doesn't appear to have any music on it, or maybe it does, but I need to connect some earphones first. Or, it supposed to be display the 'sad iPod' icon, but I just don't see it, therefor, I'm blind as to the status of it.
I likely guess it's the battery, since every time I disconnect it, it goes dead. Yep, just looked back, still on. Yep, still menu clicking. Yep, I can start it with no problems now. Any clue what I can try to do to resolve this? Obviously it's turning on, and it seems to be doing something, it boots, (apparently) so that's a good sign.
Please, is there any hope at all in this iPod?  At all?
AND, IT JUST BEEPED 2 TIMES AGAIN! And I was just typing... why did it do this? (Funny thing is, how it still works!) Is that really the menu button clicking? That would explain it, I mean it only plays the menu clicking sound AFTER about 30 seconds of it 'booting' to the iPod firmware, so it obviously has some sort of life to it. If I hook up my earphones... Holy Mac! I hear music! It's alive!!! It's alive!!! Oh my man!!! Yes!
It has hope, in a way!
Atleast, I hope, but it works! Freaking amazing! Jamming to some awesome beats right now, some cool hip hop, sound quality you ask? Great, actually! I don't know how, don't want to know, but it seems trying to kill this iPod actually resulted in it being resurrected? How? Who knows! This is awesome! iPod truly CAN have 2 lives, I guess!
Cool stuff, I swear on that! My favorite song was on here too!
How to adjust the volume on the iPod Nano? I don't care, it's playing at full volume, and it's awesome!
The sad thing is, it still has the white screen of death, and the battery is apparently fried still (or needs a good 24-hour charging).
This iPod has been sitting dead as a dud in the storage room for a good 1 year or so, unused. And now it came back to life in a flash. Unbelievable.
    I love you Apple.

Your problem was moisture. It was wet inside and sitting around for a year let it all dry up.
If you get this kind of thing happening, speed the process up by putting the iPod into a zip lock baggie with a dessicant (you know those little silica pouches) or even some rice to absorb the moisture. Let it sit for a few days and it should dry it all out.

    Hi
It seems to be ok now... I had to go out and it ran out of battery, when I switched it back on it  appears to be fine.
If it happens again (hoping that it doesn't!) and i do the reset.. will that remove all the music that's on there?
    Sorry for the ignorance

You could turn on Airplane Mode, then turn wifi back on and listen to Pandora via wifi.
Also, when the phone rings, you can press the ( - ) volume or sleep button to stop the ring.

  • IPod Nano white screen (frozen)

I have an iPod Nano (3rd Gen), and a few days ago, on turning it on, the screen was white (no Apple logo, or info). I have tried resetting AND just restored it. It shows up ok in iTunes, and I can even add music to it but the screen is still white / blank!
What's the fix for this? Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

What happened to me was that I put my ipod nano the video one on recharged and when it finished i took it out and it still had the screen saying connected and eject before disconnecting. What do I do to get rid of that and get my Ipod working back to normal?

  • Ipod nano 7th: Screen flashes white (turns off) and stops the music.

I just got a brand new Ipod nano 7th: Less than 10 seconds after the song starts playing the screen flashes white, the apple logo shows up and it returns to 'home' screen. Battery is full. Tried to restart but that didnt help!
    What could be the problem?

    Hi joannefromhkg,
If your iPod nano (7th generation) will not turn on at all I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    Specifically -
Follow these steps if your iPod a power-related issue.
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    And -
    Issue not resolved
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • TS1441 Ipod nano white screen brand new

Just bought a 7th Generation Ipod nano and tried to plug it in and load music on it. When it was done syncing it said ok to disconnect so I did so.
After I unplugged it, there was a white screen that had a lock symbol in the top left corner and it wouldnt do anything. I reset it by holding in the center button and top button. Once it reset it said connect to Itunes to restore. I plugged it into my computer and the white screen came back and says do not disconnect. Not sure where to go from here. I have the latest version of Itunes downloaded and when I plug the Ipod in nothing connects or shows up in my itunes for it.

DId you ever get the chance to restore it? that would  most likley fix your problem. This is a defect most likley so i suggest going to the link to solve your problem.http://www.apple.com/retail/
Sorry about that being a downer since its brand new.

  • My ipod nano (6g) screen is stuck one way!

I got the new ipod nano and i turned the screen left and now its stuck like this and i cant turn it back. I restored it and its ok now, but it doesn't turn any way now! HELP!!

How are you trying to rotate the display?  All you should need to do is place to fingers such as your thumb and pointer finger and slide them in either a clockwise or counterclockwise motion.

  • Why is there a dark rectangular shadow in black areas on my 7g ipod nano's screen?

I recently got the new (7th gen) iPod nano after my 5th gen's battery died. I was very satisfied at first: nice screen, GUI, and other steps up from my old nano. But when viewing pictures, I noticed shapes in the black margins. As far as I could tell, they didn't portrude into the picture or was caused by it. Curious to see if it was just the image, I plugged it into my computer to see if it would appear on the almost solid black "Connected Eject before disconnecting" screeen. Sure enough, there was a darker rectangular shape in the middle, about 44mm from the edges to the edges of the screen. I also noticed that instead of right-angles as you'd normally find in a rectangle, the were rounded off. Also, at the bottom (the part closer to the eject text) the lines that form the rectangle  bended toward the home button, but never touch the actual boundary of the screen. I'm not sure if this is normal. I am planning on returning this iPod if no help arises.Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Sorry for the shabby photo quality. I was just wondering if this was normal. In fact, I want to an Apple outlet to see if there was a shadow on a display iPod, and there wasn't. I'm just not sure if this might get worse over time.

  • Improperly disconnected ipod nano now screen is blank, and will not shut off.

I accidently unplugged iPod Nano (second generation) improperly; now the screen is blank and will not shut down.

Have you tried a hard reset yet? To do this, first make sure the hold switch has not been activated, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may take a couple of tries.
Otherwise, wait for the iPod's battery to fully drain. Then connect it to a power source charge up as normal. It might be necessary to restore the Nano via iTunes after that as there may be corrupt files still leftover from improperly ejecting the iPod.
