IPod Nano Disk Drive Size

I'd like to buy an iPod Nano or mini with speakers for everyday use and riding on a horse. What's the largest size hard drive available on the Nano? Also, how well will it work on my horse. What am I getting into here? He's being taught Classical Dressage to Music. Horse riding is the major reason I'm buying an iPod.
Mike

Maybe it's just that the black shows the scratches much more than the white of a standard iPod. I don't have one to compare - this is my first ever Apple purchase. Needless to say I am NOT impressed. It's a very elegant design, but a poor build.
I spent my lunchtime cruising around all the CD stores in town trying to find one that sold the special solution you can buy to hard-coat CD's so that they are scratch-resistant. (CD's are made of polycarbonate too.) Didn't find one yet, but I'll keep looking.
Nick.

  • Ipod Nano USB driver fails continuosly

Initial problem: Device not found; located error in USB driver, uninstalled driver, rebooted sytem, found new driver - installed properly able to sync. (No hidden drivers listed in que) unconnect/reconnect ipod and USB driver error returns.(Each time)
Background services running are: Yahoo ISM, winamp, InCD, HP monitor, ATT self support, Logitech quick cam, McAfee, Index search.
Any known reasons why USB driver would continue to fail from dormant state? (unconnected and plugging in)

Make sure you have no other USB drives connected to your computer when connecting your iPod. I have a 4th gen Nano which fails to connect up when I connect it to my other Vista-based PC only if my USB hard disk is connected up.
I need to disconnect my external USB hard drive in Vista to get it to "see" the iPod. Also, might be handy to disconnect other USB devices like printers and your Logitech camera (which I have also connected, but that doesn't have any problem).

  • Computer wont recognize ipod in disk drive J!?

I recently recieved my Ipod Nano for my birthday, and everything was going as planned until I came back from vacation 2 weeks ago and tried to put more songs on my Ipod.
Once I put my ipod in the connecter which I had been using for the past 3 months, Itunes never came up so I clicked on it and my Ipod was not listed on the lefthand side.
I went to the apple websited and completed all of the 5 R's and still nothing.
I also went under "My Computer" and saw that disk drive J(the ipod drive) was said to be empty, but yet my ipod was plugged in and the screen on my ipod was blinking and said do not disconnect, like normal.
I checked the back of the connecter and the computer and i made sure everything was in tight, but still it claimed drive J, my ipod drive, was empty. Meanwhile all my songs were deleted somehow. I'm not sure how to fix this because I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything and yet nothing has helped!! Someone please help me out, i need my Ipod to work!! Thanks alot!

    Try changing the drive letter?

  • Ipod nano disk warning

i just bought my nano yesturday and was trying to install itunes n such from the cd that came with the ipod. when i reach a certain point in the process a warning message pops up with a yellow triangle with a exclamation point in it. it reads:
The software you are installing has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows XP
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft reccommends that you stop this installation now and contact the software vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.
So after that, I installed itunes from this site. Everything worked fine untill I tried to connect my ipod to my computer to transfer the songs to it. The same type of installation program popped up and so did the warning above. I have Windows XP and it says on the ipod box that the nano is compatable with my computer. Anyone have any idea if this will really hurt my computer or what I should do about this?
    Ipod nano   Windows XP

I'd suggest continuing the installation. If you've downloaded from Apple or used the files that came with your iPod, AND you've checked that your computer meets the required specifications, it will not damage your computer to continue the installation. The songs will not transfer until iTunes and Quicktime are correctly installed and you have run the iPod Updater.

  • ITunes directory on iPod nano device not showned

I have a iPod naono 4th generation. I nedd to transfer the iPod Music Library from the iPod (using as a disk enabled) to my iTunes library. But following the instructions to do it I must see the iTunes directory on thr iPod nano device. I cannot see this directory on the iPod nano disk. My operating system is Windows XP. How can I visualize the iTunes directory on the iPod nano ? The question is: how I can transfer my music library from the iPod nano 4th generation to my iTunes library ?

    Hello roby000,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You will also have to show hidden files in order to access the music directly on your iPod. By default, Windows hides hidden files and folders (thus the name). Go to Options (in the Tools menu), and on the View tab, check “Show Hidden Files and Folders”.

  • Hard disk drive for A20P

Just to know which maxi hard disk drive size is able to run my A20P
    ThinkPad A20p - PIII 700 MHz (256KB) 512MB RAM Size of original HDD:18.0GB
    Thanks for help

Your A20p will take on a significantly larger hard drive, I've had a 60Gb in one of my past ones and it worked fine. Theoretically, you should be able to install the largest available PATA drive (currently 250Gb), but I remember reading somewhere that there might be a BIOS limit at 137Gb.
Anyway, an 80, 100 or 120Gb HDD should work just fine even with the aforementioned (unverified by myself) limit.

  • Windows thinks my ipod is a disk drive?

    Device:
    Apple i-pod nano 1st generation
    Issues:
...i-pod not listed in "My Computer"
    ...i-pod not connecting to i-tunes
...The "Do Not Disconnect" does appear on the i-pod's face screen.
...If the i-pod is connected via usb port to my computer prior to turning the computer on, then Windows will not boot up. I have to unplug the usb cable so that Windows will boot up.
...Same with i-tunes. The i-pod can not be connected to my computer prior to opening i-tunes or the program will not open. Once I unplug the usb cable, then i-tunes opens up immediately.
...Did verify that I have the latest version of i-tunes installed.
...In Device Manager, "USB Mass Storage Device" is listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers
...Right clicked on the above to update drivers...pop up window indicates the best drivers are already installed.
..."Appe Ipod USB Device" is listed under Disk Drives in the Device Manager
My computer is running Windows Vista.
My kids both have an i-pod touch and they sync / connect without any problem.
Could the problem be that my computer is confusing my i-pod for a disk drive? Or does anyone see what the problem may be based on the issues I have listed?
Any suggestions on how to fix this frustrating problem?
    Thanks for the help.
    Marsha

the ipod is suppose to be seen as a disk drive. if you don't like that, then in itunes uncheck "enable disk usage"
"ipod not listed in itunes" do have another computer you can plug this into? and the booting issue is a windows problem, it will do that for certain devices, i cant have my psp plugged is while it boots.
    have you reinstalled itunes?

  • I can't restore my Nano or force to Disk Drive mode

    Help!
I have a 4 month old 2GB Nano that I cannot restore with IPOD updater nor can I force into Disk drive mode. It isn't recognized. Basically all the things I find on the help page. If I reset the IPOD (menu and select buttons) the nano will reset but it will not be recognized by Itunes or IPOD updater. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure everything is up to date...
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
Now restart your computer. Connect your iPod nano up. Does it work?
Also, does your iPod nano show "Do Not Disconnect" when connected to the computer?
If the iPod nano is still not recognized...
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
Also, connect it up to the computer and open My Computer. Is the iPod there? If so...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
