Ipod nano file system

itunes and ipod updater won't recognize my ipod. I just saw something interesting though. In the computer management screen, the file system of the nano shows up as FAT32. This would not make me worry normally, but i have a 256 mb flash drive and that shows up as simply FAT under file system, i was wondering, will i need to change the format of my ipod nano to FAT? I was able to get songs on it orginally on a friend's computer, but didn't check any of that information, nor have i been on it since my problems started. can somebody please help, thanks

I have had an iPod nano for a couple of weeks and have been enjoying it for a couple of weeks. However, recently for no apparent reason some of the files I had previously loaded and had been listening to stopped playing--they are skipped. Of the 158 songs loaded about 20 or 30 have stopped playing this way. Should I reload all my songs again? Does anyone out there know if there are any problems with the nano storage technology?

One solution that may work would be to "Reset" your nano:

If that doesn't work, try deleting those songs on your nano that are skipping, and re-install from iTunes.

Ipod nano - sound system?

I'm looking to purchase some kind of sound system that will allow me to hook up my ipod nano so I can use it as my home stereo. Does anyone have any recommendations for a very good system that they personally own and are very happy with.

Hello. I have a friend's ipod touch (1st Gen) and it has had an episode. He had about 9 gigs worth of songs on it and connected it to a computer that wasn't his main one. Obviously he let iTunes on the foreign computer set up the ipod seemingly erasing the song library. Now the ipod appears blank. Heres the thing though, in iTunes the storage bars at the bottom indicates the there are 9 gigs of OTHER. I assume that this is all the old songs that are now inaccessible. I think if I could browse the iPod I could get those files off. What is a a free way to browse the iPod's file system? Thanks.

Sounds like yet another lesson in why you need to back up. Were these purchased songs from itunes or ones they ripped from CDs? If they were from iTunes, use Support here and plead for mercy and they might let them download them again. If they were from CD they just have to re-rip.

Unable to reset or restore ipod nano

Hi, Haven't synced my ipod for over a year and today I connected my nano to my laptop, pressed sync and got a message to say files are corrupted. Looked at ipod and it was syncing however it’s actually wiped all files from the ipod. They're still in iTunes. I thinks it's something to do with ipod using file system FAT32. It seems the ipod wants to use that and it can't because it says another program is using it. It won't let me select another file system option, as it says they are in use too. I do have Mini Tool Partition Wizard on my laptop and don't want to uninstall it but I need to sync my ipod. Can anyone advise, please? thanks. (It may be nothing to do with mini tool as I've only used this to root my Sony Xperia smartphone).

Can't load my ipod nano from itunes on a mac; that is, I can't drag and drop an mp3 file (of a speech) from iTunes to my iPod--though the iPod shows up on iTunes. My nano is the brand new touch screen.

I received the new iPod Nano with the touch screen for Christmas. I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.8. I have iTunes 10 on my system. I cannot drag and drop MP3 files from iTunes to my iPod--though it appears that iTunes recognizes my iPod--it shows up on the Devices menu on the left side of iTunes. My wife--a long-time Mac user--kidded me that I didn't know what I was doing, Then she tried to load my iPod and failed as well. Any suggestions?

Is the Manually manage music and videos option enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?

IPod nano won't sync; dreaded "duplicate file" message

Suddenly, my old but heretofore functioning iPod Nano won't sync radio podcasts. Gets the "duplicate file" message. I have tried resetting multiple times; reinstalled iTunes, changed the port, checked for plug-ins (no iToner) etc. Ran diagnostic; it fails the device sync test, saying no iPod touch found.
I have seen some other complaints about this.
Is there a solution? I have done most of the troubleshooting steps but did not restore iPod to virginity (hoping to avoid reloading songs onto it).

If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:

So you can rule that out.

IPOD NANO and a HIFI micro system

Hi all,
This may be a stupid question, but I have a 1Gb Nano and I have just bought a new hifi micro system with a USB port. I plugged the nano into the USB and the system said that there were no music files on my IPOD. I plugged the IPOD back into my PC and found the music is all hidden. To make sure the hifi works, I plugged my PSP into the USB port and it played an MP3 straight away.
If I unhide the music on my PC, as soon as I disconnect the IPOD from my PC then reconnect, it is hidden again.
I think my problem is that the IPOD nano hides its music by default and the hifi cant find it.
Does anyone know who to turn off this security system to allow me to use the IPOD with my Stereo?

When trying open ipod nano 6 file in windows my computer windows cannot file metadata_never_index. How is the file opened?

I had this same problem after my nano crashed today. I hooked my nano up to my laptop and restored it, but after that iTunes still wouldn't recognize the nano. My computer opened the nano showing the file "METADATA_NEVER_INDEX File". I tried to open it and it asked me to choose a program to open it with, so I selected iTunes (becasue I thought maybe it had lost iTunes and that's why it wouldn't work). Now that I see your comment, I think I may have really messed things up here....
Since doing all that I have reinstalled iTunes on my laptop and my nano has synced and is playing music ok, but if I open it on my computer it still shows that metadata_never_index file as an iTunes program. Do I have to reset something in my nano to unattach that file from the iTunes program or should it be ok? I'm also wondering if I should just restore my nano again - would that set it back to the unidentified file setting? Like I said, the nano seems to be playing ok, so maybe it's nothing to worry about. My system is Windows XP.

Have you tried on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem?

File size of Notes on iPod nano?

Hello,
my question is about the file size of notes to be handled by the iPod nano.
I have copied several ASCII text-files into the Notes folder of my iPod nano. Each has a size of approx. 20 kByte. Windows Explorer shows them in the iPod Notes folder with their original size.
However, when opening one of the text files on the iPod nano, text is only displayed until approx. 700 words (approx. 4000 characters), which corresponds to approx. 4 kByte. The larger rest of the file is not displayed, as if it was cut.
Is this an error?
Or is 4 kByte the max. size of text files which can be displayed as notes on the iPod nano?
I have updated the iPod nano firmware recently with release 1.1.

Until they inprove the file size that the iPods can read, this is your only real way to use your iPod as an ebook reader.

Sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled. See your iPod's User Guide for information on how to turn it off.

You know, I don't know much of computers and of technology but when I bought that ipod back when they came out 2005 I was able to download music from my CDs and from Youtube to itunes then transfer to my ipod and back and forth to itunes . Then if I had changed of computer I was able to transfer to that new computer.Why I'm not able to do it ? There is a program(Sharepod) that allow to do that but it cost $35.00 but I thought that was free or it is because that now I have to buy from itunes only?
