Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

Just recently my ipod nano 4th generation's battery seems to be messed up? I plug it into the charger and the ipod says it's charged, but when I take it off the charger, the screen goes black. What is going on and how can I fix it? I'm really sad because it happened so suddenly.

Yes.  The battery appears to be shot and in need of a replacement.  This can either be done by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • Ipod Nano 2G battery drains suddenly after completly charge , software 1.3.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have this problem: after Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response. he Just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low... message".
I use my ipod only in my car with my iTrip car, but some times y use it for some Long travels in plane, its works ok, but some days ago ( near to sept. /8 ) start with this failures.
It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? Itunes install it some days ago in my Ipod and start with this problems.
some one have the same problem?

Well , after all the software test to see the battery behavior, my ipod still drains all battery power, even if the ipod are in off mode. but if I play songs after full charge it plays over 8 hours (IS NOT THE BATTERY THE PROBLEM) . but some times the Ipod reboot randomly and start with 2% of baterry charge after that.
I test using 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.1 software. and the same problem.
    therefore: IS NOT THE SOFTWARE.
So I decide send MY Ipod nano to the technical support office in my country/city using my APPLE warranty, now I just wait for the answer from the technichian.

  • My ipod nano's battery died and now won't turn back on... help? =]

Okay so I was listening to my ipod in the car and it died. I tried to charge it at my friend's house with her iphone charger and it wouldn't turn back on. I plugged it in at home and it still won't start and itunes shows that it's not even plugged in. I tried that shindig where you switch the hold button then press those two buttons but that didn't work either... help?

My 3rd gen nano did the exact same thing to me as well today. I tried doing the reset and nothing happened. I tried calling Apple, but they said it's out of phone warranty, so they couldn't do much. They said they didn't recognize the error I'm getting, so they recommended taking it into a store. When I attach it to my computer, I don't get any response from the ipod, but my computer says that there is new hardware that says "Apple Recovery (DFU) Driver." iTunes tries to read the ipod but says it has an unknown error (-185). I am extremely frustrated. Anyone have suggestions as to what is going on?

  • Ipod nano i can't charge battery HELP!!

I have try to charge my ipod with plug the ipod's usb in my laptop and i can see the icon's of charge and when the battery is charged if i plug off the ipod nano the battery's indicator is red -.-
the ipod is new any help ?

Try a hard reset. Press and hold the center button and Menu (up) for about 5 seconds. It will turn off and reset.
If that fails then you could try reinstalling the iPod using the iPod Updater tool.
Finally, you could try running the iPod until it turns itself off because it's out of battery. Then, force it to completely drain by hard resetting. After a hard reset it will probably run for another few minutes even though it said it was empty before. Then, charge it until it's full. That should calibrate the battery.
If all that fails then call Apple support cause you have a faulty battery.

  • Recharge iPod nano 3G after each use, or wait until flat before recharging?

In order to optimise both the capacity of an iPod nano 3G battery (how long it lasts between charges) and its longevity (how long it will last before it has to be replaced) should the battery be charged up to full after every significant period of use (typically 2 hours playback in my case) or should charging not happen until the battery is flat or almost flat?
Also, does anyone have any thoughts on my other iPod nano 3G question, which is at:

  • IPhone or iPod Nano?

I can't decide whether to get an iPod Nano and a new phone, or an iPhone. Basically, my three concerns are:
    Battery Life, Price and Functionality.
I have mostly decided on an iPhone, except for one thing. What's the battery life like? I will mostly be using it for music and just general fiddling around. How long will the battery last, using it just for music? How long will an iPod Nano's battery last?

The iPhone is rated at 24 hours on music alone, but if you do anything else, this will be reduced. Based on your needs, you will get a better value by buying a seperate phone and Nano. The Nano is cheaper, and some phones are free. You will have to carry around 2 devices.
The idea behind the iPhone, is that it is an all in one device. To get this, you do lose some battery life because it is no just an ipod. It also has a much bigger screen and internet connectivity. So there is even more functionality in the iPhone in some ways.
But some phones have turn by turn GPS and a few other features that the iPhone doesn't.
You have to way the pros and cons and decide for yourself.

  • My iPod nano 4GB (2nd gen.) battery was great, now its dying within a few hours?

    Hello,
I have a iPod nano 4 GB (2nd gen.) I have had it for years and up till recently the battery was great on it.
For a few weeks now my battery will die very quickly. I will have it fully charged and within 2 hours it will be dead. I have no applications running, just music. Nothing has changed at how I use it, but the battery just does not hold.
I charged it again last night and listened to music for about 30 min when I checked it, the battery was about dead. I gave it a few min. then it said it was half way charged?
I do not have wi-fi or anything on this...just music.
I also checked to make sure its software was up to date which it is. Can it just be the batterys worn out?
    Thanks

Yes.  Your iPod's Lithium ion battery will slowly start to lose its ability to retain full capacity over time.  Nothing lasts forever.  Sorry.

Pls help me my ipod nano wont charge even if i use other laptop or pc . The battery notification tells its full charge but when i remove my ipod its still not charged

Is it not charging at all? Did you try to reset? If YES to both, request for a replacement of the ipod. Battery or the unit itself is defective. Cheers!

  • I Tune is not recognizing my new Ipod Nano that I received as a replacement due to the battery recall.  Any ideas how to get it to recognize my device?

I recently received my replacement Ipod nano for the battery recall earlier this year.  I went to go register it, yada yada and ITune wont recognize the device.  I have no idea what to do now.  I have tried 3 different cords and still nothing.  Any suggestions?  I am totally frustrated.
    Thanks

Did you receive a 1st gen replacement or 6th gen replacement?

  • IPod Nano 3G - dead as soon as taken off charger - new battery fitted

A couple of years ago my girlfriend won a 4gb iPod Nano 3G in a raffle. As we both had other iPods, it has been sitting in a drawer ever since. The other day I found it, and thought it would be useful for using in my car.
It was still sealed in the box - so I opened it, connected to iTunes, registered it, and synced it.
As soon as I unplugged it, the screen died. I couldn't get it to switch back on without plugging it in. When plugged in (computer or mains) it works fine. As soon as its unplugged it immediately switches off.
As it had been sitting unused for a couple of years, I presumed the battery was dead. I ordered a replacement from eBay - which arrived today. I soldered in the new battery, and left the iPod to charge for a while. The same again - when I disconnect it from the computer, it dies before I've even got the dock plug right out!!
Any ideas? I've tried restoring it with the latest firmware, and I've also tried manually resetting it using the Menu / Center buttons.

I have the same exact problem and situation, took it out of the shelf after two years unused! Any luck?

Yes, your battery is likely toast and in need of replacement.  Not much else for troubleshooting here.  Sorry.

  • 7th generation ipod nano battery life? Please help.

I only seem to be getting about ten hours out of my new ipod nano.I've only had since October when it came out and charged it only about five times since then.I have calibrated the battery a few times, but it still has not improved.I only use my ipod for music and photos and I have the brightness setting on lowest.I don't use the equalizer or bluetooth.I have read that resetting it doesn't help.I really love my ipod, but I hope it's not defective 'cause it's engraved and I haven't bought the warranty for it yet.Does anyone else have this issue with the battery life? Any advice?

I guess i neglected to say that I did all tests from letting it completely die to letting it sit for 22 hours without touching it (who uses ipods without touching them for 30 hours?) and it died just after 22 hours. 3 times now it said connect to charge after 5 to 6 hours but one of the times i let it play without touching it after it said to charge and it went for another 5 hours then died? Any other hints or tricks or is this battery really garbage like others are saying!? If apple don't do a fix for this they will be getting hundreds of these ipods back because of the deception on battery life!
