I don't know if my iPods doing gapless playback. Is it supposed to? Do I have to change the setting on iTunes or iPod. There's some gaps between songs though.

With gapless playback, you should be hearing an album played back on your iPod just as if you were listening to the original cd.
If one track flows seamlessly into the next on the cd, then that's how it should play back on the iPod.
Previously, before the introduction of gapless, as one track went to the next, there would be a one second gap of silence.
For gapless to work, you need a 5th gen iPod or a 2nd gen nano and have iTunes version 7 and the latest iPod software.

  • Apple iPod Nano replacement program - question

    Hello, Apple community,
I have a question about the new replacement program of the iPod nano 1st gen.
The program doesn't state whether or not you get a refund or a new iPod nano (the small squared once with touch screen).
The program says that you'll get a replacement iPod Nano, but isn't very specific if it is the new generation.
I apologise for any spelling mistakes and such.
    Thank you for any answer,

    Hi lindsayfromspencerport,
I can say it is not a scam - Apple is definitely replacing the iPods.  Once I read the article and went to apple.com, that proved it.  Apple.com would never risk another class action lawsuit over this iPod.
My First Generation iPod was given to me at work for being the winner of a give-away drawing and about a year or so ago it overheated and erased all the info on the iPod.  Now it will only charge and drain the battery.  It no longer allows me to store any thing on it.
I am glad that Apple is doing this exchange.  I thought I was just out of luck and was glad I had not paid full price for it.  I love my Nano and used it constantly!!!
Just send your's in using the box and label they send you and give them 6 weeks like the apple.com website says, Apple will make good on their product.  Millions of people don't stand in line and wait weeks/months for their new products to arrive for no reason, trust me.  Oh, by the way, I know this for sure.....I work for a wireless phone service that has been dealing with Apple for Yearsssssssssssss.....and every year the same thing.  People will give anything to get a product with that apple on it.

  • IPod nano: Stuttering playback

I've been having intermittent problems with my ipod nano (~6 months old) that manifest as stuttering playback. This happens seemingly at random, affecting all sorts of tracks, which then play fine at other times. The stuttering can be slight or so bad that the whole playback comes to a halt. Turning the iPod on and off doesn't neccessarily solve it, thought it can, and it can also go away of its own accord!
Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried the reset and updated my iPod - neither helped.
Next step, return to Apple and get ripped off for p&P and handling? Not impressed with this company or their 'customer service'
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Cheers

    Hi,
Casper G - I've not restored it yet. I'll give it a go tonight.
Deluded, I've never tried with a podcast. All my issues are with music (either converted from mp3 ripped from a CD, or downloaded direct from iTunes) and audiobooks.
Apple's response to your issue is pretty pathetic.
ibkidd37 - no I don't rate songs. This isn't an issue with accidental fast forwarding. The playback stutters (not skips) and slows and then either corrects itself or grinds to a halt.
Is there any other way of getting technical support other than asking the forums and hoping some other paying cutomer has had the same issue and solved it?
    Cheers

  • Gapless playback question. Please and thank you

Can I make all the music on my iPod gapless? So that if I 'shuffle songs', there will not be any gap between the music or how does that work? Thank you.

    No.
can I change all of my music to gapless playback from within the ipods music section?? NOtas you are asking.
Gapless only applies to consecutive songs on the same album.
If an album is actually gapless, Album 1 song 1 to Album 1 song 2 will be gapless.
Album 1 song 4 then Album 28 song 2 will not play gapless.

  • IPod Nano/Touch Cable Question

    Little curious question here...
Is there much of a difference between the iPod USB cable that came with a 2nd Gen iPod Nano -- or on second thought I think this cable may have came with the 5th Gen iPod with Vid. Capabilities that I lost -- and the USB cable that comes with iPod Touch 16GB 2008 edition besides that the latter doesn't have the locking clips that need to be squeezed before disconnect?
Both are attached to a QS2002 PM G4 DP 1GHz 768mb Ram built in USB 1.1 ports connected to a very old (1999 old) USB hub though the touch cable is connected to a A-A USB extension cable then to the hub.
The reason for my question is just a few moments ago my brother handed me his iPod touch to be charged, I connected to the older iPod Cable and received no response from the iPod and the computer didn't acknowledge its connection. Thinking the cable I plugged the Nano in to the same port and no prob, Nano beeps iTunes pops up after a few secs with the standard warning "Connected to slower USB port, iPod runs slow etc..."
I plug the Touch wire into the extension which is running from the hub attached to the back of the computer on top of cabinet (I was being lazy) and the iPod responds loads into iTunes as it should.
So to rephrase my question is there a difference in the ipod cables bundled with the iPod Touches that the touches will only work when connected to that cable instead of an older cable?

Not that I'm aware of (other than the push-button release that you mentioned). I have charged and synced my IPT via the cable that came with it and with cables from a Nano (1st gen). I have also charged my IPT with a FireWire cable (with and without the dock) from an old 3rd gen iPod (newer iPods won't sync via FW, but will charge), and I use a Griffin PowerJolt (which pre-dates the IPT) in the car.
Of course, that doesn't address what's happening in your case.

  • IPod classic Gapless Playback

I'm trying to figure out how gapless playback works on my iPod classic. I have it set up in iTunes correctly and it plays fairly decently, but on the iPod it doesn't do anything. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there a setting on the iPod that will allow me to enable gapless playback?

After importing an album, and having set the gap between tracks in iTunes preferences to none, iTunes automatically analyzes each track for gapless playback information. Not all album tracks need it as most have definite end points. Gapless playback is not another way of saying your tracks are now all merged, that's when you use crossfade. Gapless is for albums that have tracks that segue into the next so that you can listen to it as the artist intended you to: Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor, are some examples of where this works well.

  • Ipod nano replacement program question

hi, i just heard about this replacement program since my iPod nano of at least 5 years, I believe, randomly exploded. Now, I wasn't hurt or anything, but does that in any way affect if I could get a replaced iPod nano?

  • Ipod nano 1g replacement question

Hello. I have registered for the ipod nano 1st generation recall program, and I did receive a padded envelope. However, on the direction provided, it said "Insert your iPod into the PLASTIC BAG provided in the padded envelope". My problem is that I did not receive a plastic bag, and I am worried because the direction told me to do so. So, what should I do? Would it be okay for me to just send my ipod without putting it in the plastic bag?

Yes.  That will be just fine. If you are still worried, put it in a plastic baggy of your own.

  • IPod Nano Protective Plastic Question

Well, I've had my black iPod nano since launch and I've never taken off the plastic that came on it protecting the screen and the whole front side. Currently, my iPod is in a nano tube and i still have the plastic on. I think that plastic is a life saver but lately I have been wondering, are there any possible problems that can occure because of the protective plastic?
    Thanks.

I don't think there are any problems as long as you don't allow anything to get between the plastic and the nano.

  • HT1339 Ipod Nano 1st Generation Question

I have an Ipod Nano 1st Generation.  It was initially set up on my old Mac G4.  The power supply on my G4 crashed so now I have a Mac G5.  My problem is that when I plug my Ipod into my Mac, I can see and listen to all my songs from my Ipod, but can't download them to the computer.  However, I can click & drag songs from my computer to my Ipod.  Since I lost my whole Itunes library when my other computer crashed, I really want this library from my Ipod uploaded into my computer.   How can I fix this?  Also, I want to download my Ipod songs to my new Iphone 4 and I think I need to have them downloaded to the computer to do that.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's not really a "fix," since iTunes works that way by design.  Your iPod was set on your old Mac to Manually manage music, so it was not "synced" to your previous iTunes library.  That is why you can connect it to your new Mac and manually add more songs to it.  (If it was set for automatic syncing to your old library, you would not be able to add new songs from a different library without replacing the iPod's existing content.)
iTunes generally works in one direction, from computer to iPod, whether it is set to sync automatically or load manually.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to Mac, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to Mac.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your Mac, you can add them to your iTunes library.  Then, you can set up syncing for both the old iPod and iPhone 4, from your "consolidated" iTunes library.
Edit:  Actually, that last bit may be a problem, because I don't think you can use an iPhone 4 with a PowerPC iMac, if your iMac is actually a "G5."

  • New ipod nano (6th gen) question - can it do apple remote?

I was wondering if the new ipod nano touch (announced sept 2010) can install apple's Remote app to control itunes? It would be awesome to have such a small remote control for itunes.

    Hi Subw00er,
From what I see on the iPod nano spec page, it doesn't do apps. It's a music/picture/podcast player.
    iPod nano Technical Specifications
Note the bottom section under, "Which iPod are you?"
    Capability
Music, audiobooks, podcasts, photos, FM radio, pedometer, Nike + iPod support

  • IPod Nano 1 GB question

I plugged my Nano in for re-charging and a little unhappy face appeared on the screen, then the screen went blank, and the iPod did not show up on my desktop or on iTunes.
Do you think it's totally dead? I live 40 miles from the nearest Apple Store, and if it needs to be repaired by them, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one. I bought this Nano in July, 2006.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi dave303159,
I don't want to give out my email address online, so I'd like to keep things here on the Discussions, if possible.
If there's any iPod sort of question that you can post here, I'd be glad to help out.
    So, what's the question?

  • Gapless playback question

I just got an ipod classic, and although the songs play gapless, there is the sound of a skip when it transitions from one song to another. Is it possible to get rid of this skipping sound?

So I took one of my gapless albums and unchecked the "part of gapless" flag. then resynched. No noticeable difference on the iPod or in iTunes until I turned on the crossfade feature. I chose an Enigma album, possibly not the best choice since many of the pieces tend to fade through the transisiton, however I was able to spot the join in a way that doesn't normally happen. With this in mind I feel the flag should be set for this album.
If the feature has been sensibly implemented then "part of gapless" should only prevent iTunes trying to crossfade between successive tracks from the same album, while still allowing crossfades in other circumstances.
As to my original post it has worked on a number of occasions (every time) whereas other approaches I've tried, such as resetting the iPod or removing & replacing the tracks on the iPod, have failed. Others have suggested removing from iTunes & reimporting also has the same effect. I originally ripped many of my albums in WMA which supported gapless long before iTunes or WMP got around to figuring how to make it work with MP3's. I'm guessing that most of the problem albums I've had will be ones I had iTunes convert to MP3 as these may have been imported track at a time into iTunes rather than as complete albums which are then checked for gaplessness.
