IPod nano  glitch (i think)

Ok i just got this ipod a few days ago, and only used it once before until today. it's been working fine all day until about an hour ago, i started playing with setting on it and such. Then I was playing music and i click the arrow for 'next song' It was a little bit slow and then it skipped about 5 songs (I only clicked it once and didn't hold the button) I really don't know what is wrong with it so if anyone can help thanks.

OK it turns out that when i was charging my ipod in my dad's computer it was restarting repidily because it has no operating system on it. This must have fried up my ipod some apparently. Restored and now it;s working fine :P

Sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled.  See your iPod's User Guide for information on how to turn it off.

  • I want to create a playlist on an old iPod Nano (I think it's from the second generation), but the computer it was originally linked to via iTunes died years ago.  How can I make a playlist out of existing songs on the iPod?

    Hello there,
I have an old iPod nano which I think is from the second generation (model number A1199 if that helps) with software at the latest version it can accept, 1.1.3.  I wish to make a playlist out of the songs currently on the iPod, but I can't see any easy way to do that from the iPod itself.  The next logical thought is to do it through iTunes, but the iTunes that was originally synced to the iPod died several years ago now, so I can't access that to make a playlist through (it's a very old iPod).  I do have iTunes currently on this computer, but that's synced with my iPhone and stores different songs which I don't want to be mixed with those from the old iPod (due to the mostly nostalgic nature of the iPod songs).  Is there any way I can either create a new playlist from the iPod itself, or through iTunes without having to sync?  Also note that most of the songs on the old iPod were uploaded to iTunes from CDs and so aren't connected with any iTunes Login.
Thanks for any help you can give.  Also, I sorta need to create this playlist ASAP so any advice you could give would be much appreciated

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • How do I put music that is on my laptop onto my Ipod nano 4th generation?

Im new to Apple products and the Apple web page itself. I ripped somemusic from my CDs onto my laptop and want to know how to put it all on my IPod Nano. I think it's a 4th generation. I greatly appreciate any good and helpful advice anyone has to offer me! Thanks!!

Connect the iPod and select it in iTunes.  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is not showing, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click on it to select it.
With the iPod selected in iTunes, there is a row of buttons toward the top, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  If the iTunes music library is small and fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Then click Apply.  With this setting, everything in the iTunes music library syncs to the iPod.  Whenever you make a change to the iTunes library, such as adding new songs, iTunes automatically updates the iPod with the same changes, the next time it is connected (or when you click the Sync button).  If this works for you, you don't have to read the rest.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  A convenient way to use this setting is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  You can call it "iPod Songs," or whartever you want.  From the iTunes music library, add the songs you want on the iPod to that playlist.  Back on the iPod's Music screen, find "iPod Songs" under Playlists, and select (checkmark) it.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.  Going forward, when you want to update the songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or when you click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

  • Ipod nano resets when I click on music, and exit podcasts.

As the subject say's, on my 4GB black, ipod nano when I click on the music tab it resets, bringing up the apple logo and goes back to the main menu. Same thing happens when I exit the podcasts menu, I can listen to a podcast but when I exit podcasts and go back to the main menu it resets bringing up the apple logo again and going back to the main menu. I can do every thing else view Photos go into the Extras tab, Settings and even Shuffle Songs which play fine. I can enter and exit these with no problems. When I plug it in to my computer it's fine even in itunes it's fine I can play anything and do anything. I did a restore of the software already and it fixed nothing, I’m all out of ideas.
    Please help thanks.

    4GB ipod nano Windows XP

I think I figured it out. Podcasts are the culprit, if you set up you your iPod nano to automatically update podcasts and it downloads them on to the iPod, it causes an error in the iPods software, causing it to restart when you click on music or leave the podcast menus. So I changed the settings to manually update podcasts. Putting my podcasts manually onto the iPod, they show up in the Podcasts playlist under my iPod nano menu (which shows automatically) in iTunes. This is when the error starts, when I undock my iPod nano and go to music sure-enough it restarts, I plugged it back into my computer and deleted the podcasts, undocked it and it was working fine. I converted the podcasts to AAC and then put them on the iPod. They did not show in the Podcasts playlist, they just show as normal songs, and when I undock it it works fine. Now I know that they don’t have to go into that playlist and that I can create my own smart-playlist. But it should not do something like this. I’ll make a new thread about this problem.
Thank you all for the help.

  • I have an Ipod Nano 3g I can't put music on..

Hey guys.. I've had an Ipod Nano for, I think, about 5 months now. I however havent managed to put any music on it yet... I can't get Itunes installed, it seems like my Apple Software Update program is causing all of this. I've tried everything to install it, but all I get is:
The function you tried to use, is located on a networksource that's out of reach. Press OK to try again or type in the space below a different path with the installationpackage AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
So whatever I try, I can't remove it (gives the same error) or update it. And it seems like that without this program, I can't install Itunes either..
Does anyone know what I can do? Cause I really want to use my ipod!!!!
    Thanks in advance,

I think it's QuickTime player causing the problem, when I try to open it I get the windows error that an error has occured
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few extra explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Now download and save a copy of the latest standalone QuickTime installer to your hard drive. (We'll run the install from there rather than online.)
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install. Start the install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe.
If that install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does your iTunes launch properly now?
(If you get an error message on the QuickTime uninstall or standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. Include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • IPOD NANO 5g TOOOOOOOO QUIET!!!!

Right, Just got this ipod 2 days ago and it's on its max volume setting. On the tube whilst playing the ipod, I can still hear the train, other peoples conversations and the music those terrible people play from their mobile phones (one of the main reasons i need an ipod on public transport!) Now, I've read about here that there is an EU law on volume limits, but my ipod touch 2g was at least twice the volume, bought in London and drowns out the chavs on the train. I gave the touch to a girlfriend so i no longer have that. I must be honest and say I'm really disappointed... hmmmm.
Do I have a faulty ipod nano does anyone think?

Hi I tried this from: Zolved.com +Toggle the Hold switch to on, then back to off (none of the red is showing).+
+Press and hold down the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until you see the Apple logo) as shown in the picture.+ And it appears to have worked, so am guessing this is the standard way of re-setting the Nano? Thanks

  • Transferring songs from ITunes to IPod Nano

I have IPod Nano 5th Generation, and the latest IMac operating system.
Had no problems until today, because yesterday I downloaded the brand new ITunes 11.0 (163). Trying to transfer songs from ITunes to my IPod Nano. Not sure if I should submit this question in the ITunes section or the IPod Nano section, so did both.
ITunes used to - until today - show my device (IPod Nano and its playlists) on the left side column of ITunes, above the ITunes playlists. So I could just click on a ITunes song on one of the ITunes playlists and drag that song into one of the IPod Nano playlists above it. Now with this new version of ITunes nothing shows up on the left side, so I have no way of dragging songs from ITunes to IPod Nano. An IPod Nano icon does appear on my desktop, but clicking on it or its contents does not show any IPod Nano playlists. I could click on the IPod Nano icon on my desktop and then click on "all files" on top. There is an area that shows all the IPod Nano songs (I think),  but it does not show the IPod Nano playlists.
    1) How do I get the IPod Nano playlists to show?
    2) Please advise how to transfer songs from ITunes to IPod Nano playlists when using this new ITunes 11.0.
    3) If this cannot be done, is there a way for me  to go back and reinstall the previous version of ITunes?

I don't think the late/great Steve Jobs had this "new and improved" version of ITunes to be so darn frustrating.  It used to be relatively simple to put songs into a playlist or to import purchased songs from ITunes into an Apple device such as the IPOD Nano.  "Simple" used to be the selling point of Apple products.  What happened?  With this new version, I feel like I've got to contact Apple Support to do simple tasks.  It seems like I'm not the only person having this problem.

  • Can you give me some reasons about why I need to buy an iPod touch 5.Although I have the iPhone ,iPod nano, iPad ,MacBook pro,I think the iPod touch 5 is so attractive that I can't help buying it at once.If I have it,what I can do with it,can you tell me?

All I can say is that I REALLY like my Touch 4th gen because I have all sorts of capabilities in a small form: e-mail, web browsing, news, weather, books, magazines, etc. etc.  Plus lots and lots of apps out there, including so many free ones.  I use the Cloud a lot so it's great to have everything sync'd to my MacBookPro (e-mail, Evernote, Pocket, etc.)
It would be easier, though, to do some of this, especially magazines, on the iPad mini, but, again, I love the small size of the Touch.
As for the 5th gen instead of the 4th, the fifth has Siri and the 3D feature in maps, which are great.  And I'm sure it's a lot faster in iOS 6 than the 4th gen.  And cool colors!
    Don't know if this helps . . .

  • I was given a ipod nano i think it's a 3rd gen. i have windows vista and when i plug it in my computer says there are no drivers for it.... help

I was given an older ipod nano, i think it's a 3rd gen 8gb... i have searched the iternet for help and have had no luck. when i connect the ipods to my computer i tells me the usd device is not recognized. i have tried to reset it and it still gives me the samething notice. i have even uninstalled my itunes and updated to the newest itunes available and still no luck. i can not find updats for drivers. i have windows vista.. can anyone help?

Installing the latest version of iTunes should provide the "drivers."
It was definitely working properly for the person who gave it to you?  Is that person a Mac user?
I would try the following.  Shut down (power off) your computer.  Use this procedure to reset the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
(It's the part that says How to reset an iPod with a Click Wheel.)
Disconnect ALL USB devices and peripherals (including hubs) from computer, except for standared mouse and keyboard.  Start up computer that way.  Run iTunes.  Connect iPod to a USB port that is directly on the computer.

  • IPod Nano Headphone Port Glitch, Need Help!

I have an iPod nano 5th gen that was given to me on christmas, 2009. It worked fine for a year, but when I finally used headphones/earbuds that were not apple based my iPod started to glitch.
The glitches are like this, I'll be listening to a song, and if I make any sudden movements that wiggle the headphone jack in the port, it will fast forward/skip/pause the song, I run so this is really annoying, I have cleaned my ipod, carefully cleaned the inside of the port, and made sure my headphone jacks are clean. I tracked it down to a side-to-side motion of the jack in the port, so it would seem that the male connector is short-circuiting the female part. I have contemplated taking apart my iPod, but that is my last resort. I have been waiting for a chance to go to an Apple store, and ask a genius about it, but since my computer isn't a 2 hour drive away I decided to ask here first.
If you have any suggestions or answers please give them, I don't wan to buy any earbuds (which I need) until I can be sure they won't glitch my iPod. Also if you know how to take apart an iPod so I could check for dust or some sort of grit in the system that would be great as well.

Contact the 3rd party vendor since it's their product.
I don't wan to buy any earbuds (which I need) until I can be sure they won't glitch my iPod.
Then use the earplugs that came with your iPod Nano.

  • Is there a way to make Ipod Nano 6 think that a movie is Music Video?

Is there a way to make Ipod Nano 6 think that a movie is Music Video? That is all I want to know. I can program so if I need to go into terminal, I'm fine...

If there is, I'm sure that it doesn't involve Pages (for Mac OS X), the topic in this community.
The iPod nano has a community of its own, which might be better suited to this question.
You might also want to check out the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use statement, with particular attention to section 2.8. That could have a bearing on whether you get an answer.
