IPOD nano in DISK MODE, but still not RECOGNIZED

My Ipod Nano has stopped being recognized by my PC (Windows XP OS). After reading the discussion topics here I had a hope that after switching it to DISK MODE, the PC might recognize my Nano. However, it still doesn't. I hope the Wizrds out here rectify the problem I am facing with my IPod.

Try restoring your iPod (in Disk Mode) from somebody else's computer. (This might replace everything on it with their music for the time being, but you already seem willing to wipe your iPod, so it should be OK.) If it works, then try to do the same thing again on yours. But the problem in this case would be not with your iPod but with your computer. Try reinstalling iTunes. If that doesn't work, then the issue is probably a more general one with your Windows installation and it may be difficult to find help here.
If on the other hand your iPod won't restore in disk mode from ANY computer, then the only option I see remaining is to take it in for servicing.

If you are unable to get the iPod into Disk Mode to try and restore it, it's a very good indication, as mentioned in the article, that the iPod's hard drive is damaged and in need of replacement either by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • HT4235 Itunes only sees ipod nano in disk mode and still won't sync it

I have to place my ipod nano in disk mode for itunes (or Windows for that matter) to find it. In disk mode Windows and Itunes see the ipod and it passes all the diagnostic tests save for the sync test where it can no longer see the ipod and apparently a file is also not found. I'm ready to just reset it, but am unable to make that happen.
This problem began when I downloaded some songs from Amazon and fumbled the job purchasing and downloading some of them twice. Not very smart, but it was late. Anyway, I also downloaded their Cloud player and had it pass the songs to itunes. It was in itunes that I saw the duplicate copies of the songs. Itunes and the cloud player proceeded to butt heads, I deleted the the extra song copies and also uninstalled the Amazon cloud player. Then itunes went into the state I've described above.
    I'd appreciate any help.

  • Ipod nano (both 6th and 7th gen) not recognized by itunes

Ipod nano (both 6th and 7th gen) not recognized by itunes. Before you send me to the help pages, i have followed EVERY STEP you provided, from uninstalling, removing temp files... you name it. I was recently upgraded to windows 8.1.

For anyone else having this problem, I found this solution to work. Try this first:
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
d)If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    f) If still not works, try re-install iTunes. Go into the Unstall Programs (in Control Panel) and uninstall everything that says Apple, and uninstall Bonjour. With the fresh install of iTunes, everything came back and is should work. Hope it helps.

  • Ipod nano in disk mode (yes i already read the other one)

my ipod is in disk mode just wondering how else to get it out or how many times i should repeat the hold menu then hold the middle button?

    got it

  • Is it Dead?  ipod mini goes into disk mode, but will not reset  or restore

and is not recognized by the computer (Vista) or by iTunes. I have also tried to connect it to different usb ports and to different computers (3). Same result with all of them.
Before the problems, I had attempted to install compact flash (adapter with 8gb micro sd memory card).
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Again, this is a problem with the Logic Board. When something metallic or conductive (screwdriver/watch/finger) shorts two components on the board. I can sort this out for you, if you don't feel confident doing the repair yourself.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • IPod say's "Do Not Disconnect" but still not recognized. Please help!!

    Hi everyone.
    Ok here's my situation.
Im using a MacBook Pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5)
    iTunes 11.4 (64Bit)
    iPod 4th Gen. (White 20GB 'Click-Wheel')
After doing a system restore on my ancient dinosaur ipod 4th gen. (the white 20GB 'Click Wheel') and 'upgrading' to iTunes 11 i've had nothing but problems.
So now when i plug in my ipod it charges fine and even say's "Do Not Disconnect" *BUT* there is no 'on my ipod' button. I cant see my playlists, add songs, delete songs or anything! I just want to 'DOWNGRADE' my itunes and have everything how it was before. I find this to be a science project in itself and no amount of searching youtube videos gave me a clear answer, it only made me more afraid and confused of going forward with this.
I tried downloading 'sharepod' for MacBook Pro but this is pointless because it needs itunes to recognize the ipod for it to recognize the ipod. Ehh.
I did a 'system restore' on the ipod but when i went home where all my music is (on a windows PC) it said i have to do the restore again because it was restored on a MAC. So i did the restore again on my Windows PC (put all my music on it) and now i want to add songs from my MACBOOK Pro and its not even recognizing my ipod. Arrrgh the frustration i tell you!
Im done doing the system restore and i just want to add playlists now. Why is this soo difficult? Someone please help a newbie out. Im great with computers and feel like i honestly should have never upgraded the itunes in the first place because i feel this is what is causing my problem. I've heard the older gen. ipods dont work as well with the newer versions of itunes although im not sure if there is any truth to that or is it just rumors. Either way can somebody please take me on a step by step of what to do next? Please with a cherry on top?

    Did you restart the Mac?
Did you reset the iPod using the two button combo?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If the above do not work, try putting the iPod into disk mode, and then connecting it to the Mac.

  • Ipod Nano in disk mode

Is it a bad idea to keep syncing my ipod using disk mode? This is the only way Itunes 9.1 will not crash when connected to my ipod.

    Hello Livinghost,
Is it a bad idea to keep syncing my ipod using disk mode? This is the only way Itunes 9.1 will not crash when connected to my ipod.
No. Users you manually manage their iPod's contents must always have this option enabled. And if it keeps your iPod from crashing for the time being or until Apple releases another update, then stick with it.

  • Xserve unlocked but still not recognizing usb peripherals

I have an Xserve which does not recognize any usb attached peripherals, even though it is unlocked from the front panel.
In addition the PC monitor is also not recognizing it, and get no video output on it.
Has anyone else experienced the same issue? How to further diagnose/resolve this problem?

When I go to Disk Utility, my mac recognizes it, but when I try to repair and verify it says that it failed.
Sounds like it's very badly damaged, and it may be too much to expect the data to still be intact. However, you can try repairing it with a more powerful utility, like [DiskWarrior|http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html] or [TechTool Pro|http://www.micromat.com>. If neither of those can fix it, then your only options will be using a data recovery tool, such as [Data Rescue|http://www.prosofteng.com> or [File Salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1], or paying an expensive data recovery service to disassemble the drive and recover what they can.
Of course, this would all have been avoided if you had backups of your data. In the future, you must have a minimum of three copies of any data you don't want to lose.

  • Ipod touch / iphone / ipod nano won't connect to iTunes (not recognized)

Up until yesterday everything was working fine. But now when I connect my ipod touch, iphons (1st), or ipod nano to iTunes, my PC recognizes them (show up in Windows Explorer), but iTunes does not recognize them anymore.
    I don't know what changed.
    I have reset all devices.
I have completely removed and reinstalled iTunes. (I've tried iTunes 10.5.1 and 10.5.2)
I have shut down and rebooted the PC (several times).
I have tried different USB ports and different cables.
My Windows 7x64 is fully updated.
Does anyone know how to help?

Sorry, I followed both guides and uninstalled everything - rebooted, reinstalled iTunes like your second link instructions said.
PC sees all devices fine in Windows Explorer (and makes the pling sound when I connect them, they just do not show up in iTunes.
(ipod nano, ipod touch 32GB, iphone 1st gen, ipad 1st gen)
Manually starting or restarting all itunes/ipod related services doesn't do a thing either, nothing will sync.
    I'm at a loss.

  • My iPod touch 4g will charge but is not recognized by computer

I have done everything I know to do. My iPod touch 4g will charge from my computer but will not sync and is not recognized by the computer. I have tried it on 4 different computers and my brothers iPod touch 3G works and so does our iPad 2 but something is wrong my with just my touch 4g. Both of them have updated to the ios5 and I have not. I did the extremely stupid thing of resetting it and now it's just stuck an the original start up screen. So I can no longer even get into my touch. My 90 day has expired as well.
Please someone help me. My brothers have spent hours looking for ways to fix it but can't find anything. Nothing is working at all.

Did it work with previous ii.x version?

  • My phone is in recovery mode but its not recognized by my computer

I could not get in to my phone because I forgot my Passcode. I was finally able to get my iPhone in recovery mode but it is not recognize my device. I know the USB cord works because I also have an iTouch and it connects. I've also tried to connect on different USB ports. I  also have a Desktop and I downloaded iTunes and connect my iPhone to my desktop. When I connect the iPhone to my desktop it connected to iTunes and it showed that it was in recovery mode. I tried to restore it but I keep getting error 1611. All my USB cords work and the ports are working fine. I have the most updated software and I've tried using DFU mode. Does anyone have any suggestions or can my phone be saved at all.

  • Restored but still not recognizing 2 smart playlists previously stored

I am having problems suddenly syncing my Nano which I have tried to solve by twice restoring it and then REsyncing. All playlists I have created previously synced just fine on all 3 of my iPods (1 of which is an iPhone). The problem I'm having ONLY is occuring on this Nano. Help!
Here is message I get: "This smart playlist depends upon 1 or more playlists which cannot be found" and the caution symbol is displayed next to both SMART playlists in the Nano list of playlists in the DEVICE category.
The caution symbol does NOT display next to those 2 SMART playlists in the "PLAYLISTS" category.
These 2 SMARTplaylists contain items from both the MUSIC library and AUDIOBOOKS library and PODCASTS library in the LIBRARY category list and no "caution" symbol is displayed next to ANY other item than these 2 "SMARTplaylists" in the DEVICES category for this particular Nano.
I have 2 other devices (iPhone and video iPod) and they have no problems whatsoever syncing fine with all these playlists (including the SMARTplaylists) and I HAVE ALREADY RESTORED THIS NANO 2 TIMES and that has not solved the problem.
    Help???!!!!

Apparently Audible has a bug right now in their software that talks to iTunes. They informed me about this today thus is the root of the problem. They "are addressing it".
