Ipod nano is detected but not identified

I have an ipod nano 3rd generation that works fine on my Macbook Pro laptop, but when I plug it in to my Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4, (it's an early classic stack), the computer tells me an ipod has been detected but can not identify it, and tells me to unplug and replug in, which doesn't do any good. The icon shows up on the desktop for a few brief seconds and then dissapears. I have Tiger 10.4.11 and have upgraded my USB port to a 2.0. Help Please...

  • I just bought a new nano today and I'm trying to download music to it from my itunes account but when I connect it to my computer a window appears and says an ipod has been detected but not identified properly. What does this mean?

How can I get my ipod nano connected to itunes?

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an "account."
Did you download and install the latest version of iTunes, which is available here?
    https://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have an earlier version, it may not support the most recent iPod nano, which could explain why Windows does not have the device driver to identify it.

  • TS1363 my computer says that my new ipod can be detected but not identified.  When I plug it in to my computer no screen appears asking me to register it.  Help!!

I purchased a new IPOD and my when I plug it in my computer says that it can not be identified.
In the past when I have plugged in a new ipod a screen will pop up and ask me to register it.
    Why is this not happening?

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal.

  • IPhone Detected But Not Identified?

I hooked up my iPhone to my base that goes into my cpu and I got this message: "An iPhones was detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone and try again." I havent had any problems like this before. Will a reinstall over this iTunes fix the problem? I am running Windows XP. I have also noticed that when I plug up my phone, the Scanner and Camera Wizard pops up recognizing the iPhone as a camera. Also when running iTunes after I got that message, my cpu will freeze for about 5 seconds and work fine a little while then freeze again for 5 seconds. But when I close iTunes, it stops freezing.

I am having the same issue iPhone detected, but not identified. Did you get a solution to the problem? Had to go to th Apple store to register my phone. iPhone connected fine with their MacBook. That doesn't help me at home though.

  • IPod Nano 7 Gen is detected but not identified by iTunes on HP Windows 8

I own an iPod Nano 7 Gen and an HP computer with Windows 8. Ever since I installed the iTunes update back in November of 2014 my iPod has not functioned with iTunes. Whenever I plug it into my computer I receive an error message that reads "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persist uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." I have done all that the alert message has told me and even restarted my iPod. Has anyone found a simple solution to this problem?

  • Ipod detected but not identified when connected - so won't work

Every time I connect my ipod nano to my computer (power book g4) I get a response - "An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod then try again."
I have tried this many times and keep getting the same response. The ipod has worked before on this computer no problem. I recently had my system reloaded at a 'genius bar' and I wonder if this might be part of the problem.
I have tried rebooting both the ipod and the computer but the problem persists.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I had this problem today, but I was connecting the iPod to a Windows laptop. I had to disconnect and reconnect it several times before it identified it "properly."

  • My nano has been detected, but not identified. What do I do?

Help. I plugged in my iPod, and a little warning showed up that said, "An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again." Guess what? I did that maybe thirty times. Didn't work. Advice?

First I assume youre using ipod nano 5g and you have downloaded newest itunes 9?
    (thats a must).
Something that often gets usb devices to run again: (i dont run vista but you can google how to find the info here is one link as to how to find device manager in vista;http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windowsvista/f/opendmvista.htm)
Once you find device manager the basic info below applies:
Plug the nano in. Now in your Start menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage". Click "Device Manager".
"Expand "USB devices". Can you see an entry in there for the Apple iPod driver? If so, right click on that and select "Uninstall" Or if it offers to repair it can try that first. Click OK. (The uninstall choice may take a while, leave it to its own devices for a while. this only uninstalls drivers not itunes to my knowledge).
After the driver uninstalls, unplug the nano. Wait until it has finished saying OK to disconnect on the nano screen
Now plug the nano back in. This should reinstall the driver"
I found this info in the other forum for connecting nano to windows but Ive used it in past.

  • IPod nano on Desktop but not in iTunes

My iPod Nano (the new one, short and stubby, just released) shows up on my desktop with 'Calendars,' 'Contacts,' and 'Notes' intact but it doesn't show up in my iTunes. Both the nano and the iTunes are new, plus I just upgraded to Tiger (yes, I know).
I reset the **** thing about nine times. That doesn't solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Solved! Another post on another thread mentioned that they closed eyeTunes and turned it back on. This did the trick for me, too. Thanks.

  • DETECTED BUT NOT IDENTIFIED

Just tried to update my iPOD but got above message initially..... still there when I try to connect. Screen on iPOD now says "Connect to your computer.Use iTunes to re-store" and there is a whirling sound when the screen disappears.I can't get back into the menu ....just this latest message in black and white in 3 languages Any help would be most welcome to enable me to use my iPOD..

It looks like your iPod is asking you to reset everything from scratch.
The first thing I'd do is a diagnostic run. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, Put your iPod cable into your iPod. If given the option, Repair the disk; it might take a little time.
If your iPod doesn't have any files, reinstallation might be your only option.
