IPod Nano is FREEZING!

My iPod Nano is freezing... it is mainly used to watch vids, but there is music on it. Any help would be appreciated.:)

Finally, people who have the same problem. My 3rd gen nano worked great with my factory chrysler ipod interface and my jensen clock radio with ipod interface. Up until last month...now the ipod just freezes and soon as I plug it in to either one. I did a reset, restore, update firmware, new songs, less songs, disk mode, manually manage, etc. Finally I sent it in for repair because it's still under warranty. Apple sent it back and said it's fine...nope!! Here's a video I took of it happening-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB8zJKm0M5I (Sorry it's blurry).
Apple, fix the problem or you're going to get really bad publicity!!

i have a 5th gen ipod nano that freezes when playing songs. i can't skip, turn down volume, turn ipod off. it simply screeches as the song is stuck at a specific point. any suggestions?

You have 2 options:  #1 - iPod Repair Tutorials
#2 - take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • My ipod nano 3 freezes when i connect it to my pc?

my ipod nano 3 freezes when i connect it to my pc, i have to reset it so it gets recognised. this is abit annoying, so is their anyway to fix this problem ?
    PS:I have ipod nano 4gb G3

I have resolved this problem for me. I initially deleted and reinstalled iTunes and deleted any redundant programs which might have been creating a conflict (I have children who install all kinds of rubbish) Someone else had found a USB program conflict and I think my problem was around a conflict with the USB ports. I removed a printer connection which was (unusually) connected via a port next to the ipod connection and plugged the ipod in via a different port and bingo - all is well.

  • IPOD Nano is Freezing all the time.. -- Please Help

Hello everyone. I have an iPOD Nano 4GB and everything was working excellent until these past two days, it freezes repeatedly. I would restart my iPOD Nano and when it goes to the menu, the Light is still on and I cannot move my click wheel to navigate at all. It just freezes on "Music" category on the iPOD Nano. I would restart it over and over and over and if I am lucky, it will work but then it will freeze. I have tried it plugging it on various USB ports with a Windows PC and my Powerbook and yet nothing.
Please, if anyone has a solution to this, it'll be greatly appreciated.

My iPod nano just locked up and I nad no idea what to do. Holding down buttons wouldn’t turn it off. Toggling the hold switch didn’t do anything either. It was in a stuck state where hold was turned on and none of the buttons would respond. Here’s the fix…
    Toggle hold on.
    Toggle hold off.
Hold down the menu and middle button for a few seconds.
The iPod nano should then “reboot” and voila!
Update: Both times my iPod nano has frozen up it was when I had hold turned on and plugged it into the USB cable.

  • Help! iPod Nano Screen Freeze Problem!

    Hello,
I purchased my iPod Nano 4GB about a month and a half ago. A couple of minutes ago when I plugged it into my iMac the screen just froze.
I've tried plugging it back in, turning it off, and everything. Nothing works! The screen stays lighted with one of my songs paused on the screen, even though the light is supposed to turn off in five seconds.
    Help me please!
    Thanks!

I just found the solution to the problem!
Connect the iPod to a computer. Switch the "Hold" button to the right, and then back to the left.
Next, press and hold the "Menu" and Center buttons at the same time for six seconds.
    This should reset the iPod.
    It cured my frozen screen.
Thanks for everyone's help! I think I'm going to buy the extended Apple warranty now, just in case.

  • IPod Nano Hold Freeze

I have a Nano 4G which is in a locked position. To help it I have
A: Tried to reset it by sliding the hold button and pressing Play/Pause and Menu repaeadetly for minimum 10 seconds at a time.
B: Tried to reset it by sliding the hold button and pressing Select and Menu repaeadetly for minimum 10 seconds at a time (flat on the table - to hands - one finger from each)
    C: Restarted my Mac
D: Downloaded the latest updater (11/27/05) and restored the nano
I have performed all of these many times. Further I have tried to revitalize it on windows eq.
    What can I do?

  • IPod Nano Freezes / Resets / Skips

My new 3rd Gen iPod Nano randomly freezes on certain videos (in the same spot EVERY time), resets in the middle of certain videos (again in the same spot EVERY time), and even skips (i mean entirely to the next song, not just a stutter) when I listen to certain songs, and of course, it's in the exact same spot every time.
Not to mention some of my Album artwork will display incorrectly, but if I skip to the next song and come back, it displays the correct artwork. But if I go back to the previous song and forward again, the album artwork is...you guessed it, displayed incorrectly or not at all.
I've tested every one of these songs on iTunes so far, and they work fine. I've tested the videos, they're good too. I tried them on my brother's 5.5g iPod video, and they still work great.
I restored my Nano and it didn't help either.
Are these all just bugs in the brand new iPod OS? Or do I need to wait another week for my iPod to ship out and one more week to have a new one shipped back?
This is a bummer. I was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with problems, because I have my iPod engraved. I don't enjoy the extra downtime in requesting a new product
    Anyways, any answers appreciated.

I think it is more likely a 1.0 firmware issue as other Nano 3G and Classic owners are having similar issues (Myself included). I have noted that I get song skips in the same places in certain songs and also a number of MP3's indicate that they are playing but the counter does not move nor do they actually play (They just sit at 0.00 with the play indicator showing). Very annoying when I have it docked on my speakers on random play as I have to keep going over to it and skipping to the next track.
The strange thing is that the MP3's this occur on are often in clusters from the same ripped CD's but it is never all tracks off the CD only a selection of them...
Ah well, hopefull as Apple normally do they will issue a series of fixes over the coming weeks and eventually provide a solid platform. Other than these minor quibbles I think the iPod has moved forward in a positive way but I wish the iTunes developers would get together with iPod and Apple TV developers to ensure they all have the same sorting and display of Tracks (Podcasts, TV Shows etc). For example, TV Shows on iTunes use the "Show Name" field for grouping yet Apple TV uses the "Artist" field ... WHY???? But I digress, sorry!

  • Potential Ipod Nano buyer

Hi I am thinking about getting an 8gb ipod nano (the third generation). However, my friends tell me that their ipod nano 3g freeze constantly and sometimes, even resetting the ipod (by holding down two buttons do not solve it), and they literally have to wait till the battery dies. Is this a problem only affected to the early ipod nano, or is this still a problem infecting current production of ipod nanos?
    Thank you for your help

it happens my ipod nano 3rd 8gb a couple of times a day...but it always resets for me....but this cant be good for the ipod.
i do listen to it at least4/5hours a day lately and ive been testing it to see when it freezes and i think mine only does when i have the repeat song function switched on for longer than an hour.....but bugger like im a repeat song kinda person....

  • IPod nano Freezes!!!!!!Please Help

Every now and then my iPod nano (1st gen) used to freeze and nothing I could do could get it back to life.......so i would just wait an hour or so and it would come back to life. When the iPod was frozen, the screen would be on, the only thing it responded to was the hold switch (the screen light would turn back on after switching it on and off) and no matter what I did it wouldnt respond (including turning the hold switch on and off and holding down MENU and SELECT). But now it isnt coming back to life and I have tryied EVERYTHING on the apple website including letting battery drain for 48 hours, restoring, resetting it and uploading the newest update to it when it appears on my macbook. Could somebody please tell me weather I should send it in to get serviced because I only have one month left on the one year warrentry or is there another way to fix it. Thank you.

Yes, I would definitely send it in before the warranty expires.
You can arrange online service here.

  • Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.

Wait, you guys even censor the word "he_ll"??? It's not even an innapropriate word!

  • My PC Freezes when I plug in my IPod Nano!!! Please HELP!!!!

Hello, I just bought a refurbished ipod nano and everything works fine until I plug it into my computer I do not know what to do please help me.
P.S. If this has been brought up already I am sorry I didn't have time to search for it.
    Thanx

Same problem. Im running on a sony vaio and everything just stops working until i unplug my ipod. I'm really getting annoyed with this. I even tried running it through winamp, and that froze even worse. Im able to close all the windows and whatnot, but when i try to terminate an application through task manager, it doesnt go away until i unplug my ipod, meaning i cant restart itunes without unplugging my ipod. then i unplug and it works fine. then i plug back in and it freezes up again!

  • IPod Nano Second Generation Freezes Every Morning

I bought an 8G iPod Nano second generation about a month ago. I love it! I use it with Windows XP. Every morning when I turn it on for the first time, it freezes up when I play a Podcast or Audio book. It also does it with songs but not as much. I push the reset buttons for 5 seconds until the Apple symbol comes up, it resets and then it works fine for the rest of the day.
It seems like it gets messed up after I connect it the iTunes library on my computer. Does any one else experience this problem?
    Dell   Windows XP

I'm not sure you were experiencing the same problem:
    1. Sync iPod.
    2. Let iPod fall asleep for some period of time (a few minutes doesn't cause the problem; beyond 15-20 minutes does).
    3. Awaken iPod and play a podcast -> iPod freezes.
I and many others have experienced this same problem. Yet, I don't have any life updating smart playlists referring either to podcasts or to playlists not on the iPod.
Sometimes, playing a song track before playing a podcast will work. If the song plays, subsequent podcasts will, too. However, the song track often freezes, too.
Also, if you reset the iPod at any point between synching and playing the podcast, the problem is averted.
Apple has yet to acknowledge this bug despite the multiple threads. I presume that the scenario required to reproduce it is still rare (synching podcasts yet waiting for some time before playing the first one).
