IPod Nano is Non-responsive

I have had my iPod nano for a few weeks. A coule of days ago, it was playing a song then it started to get funny. The song slowed down and then froze. The controls became non-responsive but the screen stayed on and lit. I connected it to my computer and nothing happened. I left it over night (unplugged) and the screen was blank my morning. Plugging it in to my compter does nothing. Nothing happens. Does anybody know what can be wrong? I want to check before I call customer service.

I had the same exact problem. I tried all the same things and nothing worked. When I took it to my local Apple Store the determined that it was broken and non-responsive. They replaced it with a new one and the replacement is wroking GREAT!!! So, if you have purchased the iPod Nano within the last year then they should still replace it under the factory warranty.

  • TS3474 ipod nano shows an responsive black screen

After reading a couple of articles regarding my problem, it seems like my ipod nano screen is basically dead and it doesn't respond to at all. I tried to connect it to my computer and I saw the icon on my desktop and it also appeared on my itunes as if it is OK. Everything seems normal except for the ipod screen. So I tried to reset through the computer and also manually by holding - and sleep/wake buttons. On my computer, it appeared that the device is being restored to factory settings.
I still want to know if it is just a screen? or it could be some software that needs to be reinstalled by Apple genius? Could this be a defective product from the factory?

    Ibrahim

The answer hasn't changed since June. Your iPod is not supportable here or by Apple since you attempted to repair it yourself.
Look for advice someplace like ifixit.com, find a competent 3rd party repair shop, or buy a new one.

  • Nano is non-responsive

Nano becomes completely unresponsive after a few seconds of when the unit is turned on. The unit is fully charged and I've tried the RESET option that seems to be the solution proposed for any problem someone experiences, but this didn't help. As this point, I guess the only solution is to get the unit repaired and give Apple more of my money ???
I honestly think that Apple has made more money in repair cost for the iPods than in the sale of the units themselves.

In which case buy some Apple stock, it was up 12% yesterday on a 40% increase in iPod sales from the same quarter last year. With your thinking that's gonna mean huge increases in income for the company in iPod repairs and loads of money in stock appreciation for those shrewd enough to buy the stock.
Now did you come here to whinge or do you really want some help?
If the answer is yes, more data is required to assist you which I'm happy to do. How old is the nano? Has it worked like this out of the box? Have you had it from new? Have you done anything to it recently which may have effected its behaviour? Are you using it on a mac or a win pc? Did you reset or restore?
    Your call.

  • Ipod nano 4th generation, 8gb dead?

Hi, First of all, of course my problem is that I can't turn on or even charge my ipod nano 4th gen. I did everything that people said to do: Press and hold the menu button, and the round button in the center, toggle the switch, and plug it in to my computer..but none of them work. Should I contact Apple by email? Should I go to the nearest Apple store? Is there anything else I can do to try get it back or is it gone forever? ... Thanks.

    Hi charlietheunicorn19,
If your iPod Nano is non-responsive, you may want to try all the troubleshooting steps in the following assistant before taking it in for service:

  • Can't transfer podcasts to iPod nano

I've read several similar problems of being unable to transfer podcasts from iTunes to an iPod nano, but none of them seems to help. I've tried the 5 R's (reset, retry, restart, reinstall and restore) with no success. The latest versions of the iTunes and iPod software have been installed. I've tried all 3 options for transferring podcasts to the iPod (update all automatically, update selected automatically and update manually), and none of them work. The only problem I've noticed is that when I try to set it to manual update and press OK, I get an error message saying (I can't remember the exact words) that it can't be done because I don't have sufficient privileges, but I'm using the Administrator account and besides, the next time I look at Options the correct selection has been made - but the drag and drop method doesn't work in this mode. Is there anything I haven't tried? Is there something wrong with the iPod?

It appears as if I've solved the problem, thanks to a reply to another post (sorry I haven't got time to try and find it). It involved going to the iTunes store and downloading the free download (song) of the week. Unfortunately, it also involved giving my credit card number, which I don't like to do. Anyway, after downloading this song my iPod appeared to have all of the podcasts which were previously only in iTunes. I have no idea why this worked, because it didn't in the post I mentioned.

  • FAQ Richiamo iPod nano 1g

    Come chiamo apple(NON SPENDENDO)?
    Cosa fare in questi casi?

    saluti

  • I have an ipod nano 2nd generation with a non responsive click wheel

I have an ipod nano 2nd generation with a non responsive click wheel. I have fully charged it tried resetting it and on two different computers with the latest iTunes I have restored it with the latest firmware then moved it to hold and off hold held in the menue button and select button for 10 seconds but all I get is a screen where I select the language but cant get any response from the scroll wheel.
The hold button is working (I see the lock icon go on and off) I have done the restore procedure and then reset many times but no good I am wondering if I should open it up and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.
I would appreciate any advice thanks in advance. (This is my Daughters ipod mine is an 8 gig one.)

You need a newer model iPod, a 4G or 5G. The 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Non responsive/entirely frozen iPod.

[Its one of second generation nanos]
So, I was playing music on my new iHome. I paused it so I could change the song, when it became totally non responsive.
I put in its USB cable, and iTunes didn't even register that it was plugged in. I tried the 5 Rs, and it didnt do anything.
The hold wont work, it wont restart, it's completely frozen.
I really don't want to go down to the Apple store... Can anyone help?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try resetting your iPod using the steps listed here...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
It may take several attempts. That article also has tips if your iPod won't reset.
If you can't get it to reset after several attempts, then you may need to just disconnect the iPod and wait for the battery to drain.

My nano has been corrupted!  Won't torn off or on...has a weird smoky color screen that is non-responsive.  Any ideas?

You'll probably need to take or send your iPod in for service either to Apple or a third party repair company.

Trying to play games on my iPod touch and they are slow, stuttery and non responsive. iPod software is up to date

Do the games require an internet connection? If so then maybe slow connection.
    otherwise:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
