put it in harddisk mode then connect it and hopefully u can restore it.Toggle back and forth the hold button for about two seconds, then press and hold up and center until you see the apple sign(ull need to hold it for bout 4 sec.), then IMMIDIATLY press and hold down and center. Sounds weird but trust me.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.

    Hi MartyP680,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It appears that you're receiving a message that your iPod nano can't be identified properly, and you've already tried removing and reinstalling iTunes. You've also isolated this behavior to only one of your PCs.
If the issue persists, there are some additional tips in this article that may help, including verifying that the Apple Mobile Device Support service installed properly and is running:

  • Help! My brand new iPod nano isn't being recongized by my computer!

    Hello.
My iPod Nano 3rd Generation 8GB won't work on my computer. I just received it yesterday as an early Christmas gift from my mother. When I first tried to plug it in, the computer saw it, but then a bubble popped up saying 'You may have some problems installing and using your new hardware'. I called Customer Service, and we figured out that it isn't the iPod, it's the computer. It works on all the other computers in the house, but not mine. When I go to Device Manager, the iPod's icon is covered by a yellow exclamation point (next to the USB icon it says 'Apple USB Driver'), and it says This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
I've tried the 5 Rs, too.
My old iPod 1st Generation works just fine on my computer, as it always had. I've tried both USB ports with the new nano, but nothing helps.
As I said before, the iPod works fine on all the other computers in the house. Could someone please, PLEASE help me?

I am having the same problem with an 8GB 3rd generation nano. I get the yellow exclamation point in Device manager next to 'Apple USB Driver' with the message 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'. My system is running Windows XP Home and the latest version of iTunes. The iPod helper service is running. My daughter's 2nd generation nano comes up fine. I walked through the 5R's with no luck. I have also tried connecting the new 3rd gen nano to my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP Pro on it, and it was instantly detected and came up in iTunes with no problem.
    Help!

  • My ipod nano isn't reconized

my ipod nano 4th generationisn't reconized by my computer and isn't charging.

ipod will always display that unless you specificaly eject the ipod using the 'eject' button next to ipod listing in itunes. It doesn't mean it's transfering or charging. Itt\ means the computer see it and expects it to be there until you tell it not to.

  • Ipod nano 7th nike plus workout show burned calories AND hearthrate

    Hi,
For years i used during my multi workout like crosstrainer and running a simple polar hearthrate band plus a watch so during the workout i can easily see the so far burned calories AND my hearthrate at that moment.
Now i upgraded to a ipod nano 7th gen plus a polar nike plus band, and i cannot find a workout on my ipod which simply counts calories and displays them together with the heartrate.
Anyone has a tip, or should i get back at my old polar watch ?
    Thx and greets.
    Mamo

I have spent HOURS trying to get my stuff to show on Nike+.  I spent an hour on the phone with Nike, and another hour with Apple, who told me to contact Nike again.  Then I saw up2105's respnse up above and it clicked.....I, too, had been using the WALK option, because I'm trying to get back into shape and I'm not yet up to running 100% of my workout.  And WALK does not show up in Nike+.
I don't even know why WALK is an option, if it won't sync with Nike+.  And why did their techs not mention this to me at the very beginning????  What about older folks who don't run anymore....are their workouts not worthy of charting on Nike+?  Anyway....thank you up2105!!!

  • TS2755 My iPod still isn't sending iMessages!!! I restarted it, and its software is already up to date!!!! Yes, I have wifi, but it just keeps on saying message send failure!!!!! What do I do???????? :(

I know this isn't really going to help, but if it makes u feel better, my iPod is also not sending any messages, if I were you, I would call or contact the apple company to complain. They'll do something for sure.

I know what you need to do: The same thing happened to me. So what I did was a waited a few hours. I didnt use my ipod for a few hours and it started to send messages again. The reason for this? IDK. I suspected maybe the apple compnay was fixing something on the messaged app, causing the problem. This does happen to me often, maybe once a month. I hope I helped you in some way! Sorry about the inconvenience!

  • My ipod nano isn't being recognized by itunes. why not?

when i try to connect my ipod nano to my laptop it wont connect. itunes says it cant recognize it all of a sudden. can someone help me fix this issue?

After doing everthing recommended online unsuccessfully I tried this. Bear in mind this is with a 64 bit Windows 8.1 OS.
    Here it is:
    1.Control Panel
    2.Programs
    3. Uninstall or Change Programs
    4. Uninstall iTunes
    5. Uninstall Apple application support, mobile device support, software update (I even removed Bonjour and Quicktime).
    6. Go to apple.com and download iTunes again from the beginning.
    7. See if it works (hope it does)
You'll have to download Quicktime again, but no big deal. After I did this my laptop and iTunes finally recognize my nano and iPhone 3GS. In my control panel it appears that the other applications have also been restored (as you would expect). For those of you still stuck despite the recommendations online, I hope this helps you out.
    Good luck!

  • IPod Nano isn't recognized by iTunes/computer

I've had my iPod Nano for almost six months now, and up until now I haven't had any problems with it. When I connect it to the computer, it charges but it doesn't say "Do not disconnect", it doesn't sync any new songs and on iTunes, there is no "device" section and the computer doesn't recognize the iPod.
I've downloaded the latest iTunes software, and I use a Windows XP OS, it's a Dell PC.
Please help! I've looked at many of the support topics, but none of them seem to fit my situation. Thanks.

  • My Second Generation iPod Nano isn't recognized by my Toshiba Laptop

    Hello,
I have a problem and I was hoping someone on here would be able to help me.
A couple of weeks ago I have bought a new Second Generation silver coloured 2GB iPod Nano. I have tried to hook it up with my Toshiba Sattelite A100 PSAA9 laptop without having iTunes installed, but while having Quicktime installed. My laptop gave the message 'new hardware detected, iPod', but then started the wizard 'New hardware detected' and searched for a driver, which it couldn't find. I disconnected the iPod and installed iTunes and tried to connect again.. Same result.
I have tried hooking up the iPod with a different computer that has iTunes installed and it works perfectly on there. I have also tried hooking it up with another laptop without having iTunes installed and that laptop recognizes the iPod immediately and requests to download iTunes.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple software multiple times, using a register cleaner to make sure all Apple software is indeed gone. Next to that I have tried all the suggestions on the Apple problem shooting pages, such as resetting my iPod or even putting it in storage mode, but it won't be recognised by my laptop. I have also tried the special tips for Toshiba users, but that wouldn't help either. I have no idea what to do any more. I could really use some help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sanne

  • My new Ipod Nano isn't recognized by my computer or by ITunes. What could be some reasons?

My new Ipod Nano 7 does not come up as a drive on my computer. The computer clunks to acknowledge a new device is attached but it is not shown in explorer. ITunes DOES open as it should, but it gives me a message "An IPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the IPod and try again. If the problem persists, please uninstall ITunes and reinstall ITunes." We did all that, several times. The new IPod does work correctly on our other laptop, of the same generation, with similar security. Could this be a block specific to some security on my computer? We tried all ports on my computer. I can't troubleshoot using my previous IPod because I put it through the laundry - thus the reason for a new one.

  • The cursor on my fourth Gen. iPod Nano isn't working, is this fixable?

I got my iPod Nano in 2008, shortly after it was first released. About three months after getting it, I lent it to my friend, because she had a thousand songs and atleast 4 dozen CDs. She was going to sync them for me, I got it back two months later and it was pretty banged up. No dents. Just scratches to the paint. I was pretty ******, but it worked fine. So, I didn't think too much of it at the time.
Two years later, it started to have problems. As it is a fourth gen. it is supposed to change songs when you shake it. I didn't use that feature so often at first, because I had, had a first gen. shuffle and wasn't really comfortable shaking it. But, when I started it changed songs with a fairly light shake. But when it started to experience slight problems, (would randomly change songs when it was sitting perfectly still), it also became harder to change the song by shaking it.
It eventually took more and more force, until I didn't want to shake it, because it practically took hitting it against the palm of my hand to make it change songs.
About a year ago, the cursor that lets you change songs and control the volume died. I didn't have any other music player so I got a pair of headphones to control volume and went back to shaking it to change songs, since that still worked. And all that was needed to pause it was to remove the headphones.
Now, everything works fine besides the cursor, and I was wondering if that is a problem that could be easily fixed, if it is a problem that can't be fixed or if it is a problem that CAN be fixed but costs about as much as just replacing it.

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes on yur computer
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
