Ipod Nano Locked and impossible to unlock!!!

Last time I charged my 2G Ipod Nano I noticed it was locked: the lock icond appeard on the screen but the hold button was not on the hold position.
After it got charged, I was unable to unlock it, the hold button does not respond.
I don't know what to do and I fear I have messed it in a way it won't be able to function again.
Please help me!

Well, first of all install ipod updater. You get it here at apple.com. I did this when my ipod was skipping songs it fixes problems for a month but then well they come back... Anywho restart and restore your nano (i know it ***** but this deletes all the songs on your nano). If thaat does not work take it to the apple store and explain the problem and they will either replace it or tell you how to fix it.

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • Ipod locked and unable to unlock

i have been having some problems w/ my ipods hard drive. i think i was able to fix the problem but a new one arrived. my ipod is locked and i am unable to unlock it. everything else appears fine but i just can't unlock it. i plugged it into my computer and it synced w/ itunes just fine. so i tried to reset it and toggle the hold button. i tried to reset it w/ the select and menu button. i tried to restore it but that didnt' work either. i was just wondering if there was a way to unlock it through itunes or if there is anything else that i might be able to do to unlock it.
    thanks

Hi. From what I've learned, you have to restore it, which will erase the hard drive so you better have everything backed up if you want it back. I'm still doing that...have yet to attempt the magical "restore"...if that even works. Did you know that if your warranty is expired, they can charge you $30 bucks to help you...over the phone! Stupid update! Good luck.

My ipod keeps locking and unlocking on its own! What should I do?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can still buy iPod Nano 1G accesories (Go to Apple Store > iPod Accessories > Previous Models > iPod Nano ). Of course the vast majority of accesories will work on both 1G and 2G Nanos. There is just half a millimetre difference in thickness of the Nano and the dock connector/ headphones are nearly in the same place it's only a few cases that won't work.
Yes you can buy cheaper products elsewhere. However, my experience of Apple gear over the last 15 years is that it lasts longer and performs better.

  • Formatted my new iPod Nano 4Gb and my application can't find the Device ID

    Hi,
Just bought a new Nano 4Gb, updated it to 2006-06-28 (1.2) and of course it couldn't be recognized by Windows after that. Followed the instruction and formatted the Nano and made a Restore, worked fine!
Now to my problem, when using my application Anapod Explorer (from www.redchairsoftware.com) it can connect to the Nano but it says the iPod don't have any Device ID so it can't authenticate to the iPod...
Anyone more who is using this superb software?
It seems like if some information is missing in the iPod after the formatting of it...
    Please advice!
    Best Regards

    Additional Information:
Since some information seems to be missing on my iPod Nano 4Gb I compared the files with my iPod Video 60Gb.
    Comparing the directories: [driveletter]:\iPod_Control\Device
on my iPod Nano 4Gb and my iPod Video 60Gb
    iPod Nano 4Gb:
The file SysInfo is empty, containing no data when opened in Notepad.
    iPod Video 60Gb:
The file SysInfo is of 1KB and another file named "_unlocked" is present.
The information in the SysInfo file is:
    BoardHwName: iPod M25
    pszSerialNumber: JQ6040HFTXL
    ModelNumStr: MA147
    FirewireGuid: 0x000A270014E1CDBA

    iPodFamily: 0x00000000
    updaterFamily: 0x00000000
I have done the diagnstic test on the Nano and there are no errors and the iPod Nano is functional but I can only use iTunes to load it with music, I can't use the wonderful Anapod Explorer.
    Another thing:
When connecting my iPod Video to my computer it shows up with a drive looking like an MP3 player, when connecting my iPod Nano it shows up looking like an ordinary disc drive.

  • Ipod nano 4gb and car audio

Hi everyone, I've got an iPod Nano 4gb and am a little confused as to what is required to connect this device to my factory installed cd player. I drive a 2006 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab and have the basic factory audio system. I spoke with the dealership where I purchased the truck and they said that I need an interface and harness for $400 + labor. I don't think that is an option for me -- way too expensive.
What exactly is need to connect my iPod Nano to my truck's audio system? Do I need to purchase a new audio device that supports the iPod?
    Thanks

The following website will list different types of car audio devices made for iPods. I hope it lists something that may help you.
