Ipod nano locked at menu item ENGLISH

My ipod nano powers up and gets stuck at the ENGLISH menu selection. My scroll bar won't work. I tried resetting and restoring to no avail. Scrolling won't work.
I believe this was cause by new gift I received. I got a iLive portable docking system/boombox. My nano stopped working after I plugged it in.
Any way to fix the MENU button or scrolling?

My daughter's nano has done something very similar. It works when it is docked to either the computer or the iLive boombox as well. Once it is disconnected it gets stuck at the main menu and the scroll wheel is non responsive. We have also tried resetting and restoring. How do we fix it?

Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • Ipod Nano Locked Up PLEASE HELP!!!

Ok, I purchased a second generation 4gig green Ipod nano on Monday. For some strange reason today it locked up. Now it refuses to work at all. It is stuck with the backlight on and the music paused. I do not know what I did worng or if it is my Ipod. It was working perfectly. Then I pressed pause and it screwed up. If nobody can help me by tommorrow I will have to take it back. Also, my computer just managed to detect it. It told me I should restore it so I told it yes. Now it keeps having the error message "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found." Somebody please help me.

Igor, could you tell me what you did to fix it? My
iPod fell out of my locker and now my iPod's stuck on
    hold!
Are yu saying that the hold switch doesn't work to get it out of "Hold"? Have you tried (with the hold switch in the left or off position) to reset it: press and hold Menu and Select (center) buttons at the same time for at least 6 seconds?

  • IPod nano locked with folder and exclamation

I have received today a new iPod nano and it has worked just for an hour. In the middle of a transfer from my pc it got locked. I tried everything but to no avail. It doesn't reset pressing select and menu and it doesn't restore with iPod updater, because it cannot write to it. All I see is the folder with an exclamation mark and the support page ("www.apple.com/support/ipod"). So I am lost.
    Any help?

If you put it in disk mode, then try connecting to the computer and restoring.
    Also, see this...

  • Ipod nano locked by itself. HELP!

I got this ipod nano a few months ago, and i've never had any problems with it.
But yesterday i took it down here to the computer to hook it up so it would charge. then i come back an hour later and find it didnt charge, and thers a lock symbol next to the play/pause icon in the top left corner of the ipod screen. i tried click stuff on the ipod, but it wouldnt move. so i unhooked it, and tried to reset it but holding down menu and the select. and then menu and the play/pause button because i forgot which one it was to reset it. but neither worked. then i toggled the hold button, and that didnt work. and just pressing stuff doesnt work either. then i hooked it back up. and it still is like that.
someone please help me! i dont know what to do with it.

  • Ipod nano lock symbol

I have a lock symbol in the upper left hand corner of my ipod nano screen. it is an 8 gig ipod serial number 7N742LNSYXX with software version 1.1. I cannot do anything with the screen such as scrolling in order to play music.
I restored what I guess is the operating system in itunes...which subsequently wiped out my library. Still, the lock symbol is there and I cannot use it.
I never set any sort of code in order to lock up my ipod so that nobody else could use it.
I have plugged the ipod into my computer and booted up itunes in order to find a way of getting rid of the lock symbol. No luck. As it stands, this ipod is worthless to me.
    Thanks

Those are the only 2 solutions, your iPod is broken and cannot be cheaply restored. Sell it on ebay as broken, you might get enough fo a 3rd or 4th gen iPod Nano.

  • IPod Nano Lock up

    Using windows XP Pro SP2
    with an Ipod Nano.
The problem is i can play from itunes and add removes songs but as soon as i disconnect the thing from the USB its freezes on language selection, i have tried about 100 restarts, installed most recent itunes/ipod software and even back towards the CD that came with. I have changed ports, and formatted through mycomputer and still having freezing probs. Scroll wheel or middle doesnt work either

I had this problem the day I got my ipod nano. I tried reseting it, rebooting it, reset it to factorysettings, everything, multiple times. The little lock icon would sometimes go away when I had it hooked up to the computer. But never long enough to do anything. As soon as I disconnected the ipod from the computer the lock was on solid. I finally tried letting the battery go dead and guess what? It died for good. I couldn't get it to do anything. So Apple now has it and they are trying to fix it.

  • IPod Nano locked on restore screen...

My iPod Nano appeared to be dead but I finally reset it after a couple of weeks by holding the center and menu button down while having it plugged into the wall... Now I cannot get off the screen that says I must restore in all of the different languages... Is there any way humanly possible to get it off that screen so I can get my music?

    I figured it out.

  • Ipod nano "locked symbol in itunes

my ipod nano g1 has a small padlock icon in itunes when i select music at the bottom were it says how much u have on ur ipod, i have restored it twice reset it, nothing works. i can only put songs on it through the auto update wen u first plug ur ipod into the comp, so i cant play songz from my ipod in itunes or manage them

A lock symbol at the bottom of the screen and grey text when you look at the content simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to manual in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

  • Ipod Nano locked on iTunes

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That happens when your iPod is set to automatically update all songs and playlists or selected playlists.
When iPods are set to manually manage songs and playlists, that lock goes away and you can drag the songs you want onto your iPod.
To do that, connect your iPod to the computer. When it appears in iTunes go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab, and then the Music tab under that. Click the bubble next to manually manage songs and playlists and click OK.

  • Ipod Nano Locked and impossible to unlock!!!

Last time I charged my 2G Ipod Nano I noticed it was locked: the lock icond appeard on the screen but the hold button was not on the hold position.
After it got charged, I was unable to unlock it, the hold button does not respond.
I don't know what to do and I fear I have messed it in a way it won't be able to function again.
    Please help me!

Well, first of all install ipod updater. You get it here at apple.com. I did this when my ipod was skipping songs it fixes problems for a month but then well they come back... Anywho restart and restore your nano (i know it ***** but this deletes all the songs on your nano). If thaat does not work take it to the apple store and explain the problem and they will either replace it or tell you how to fix it.

  • IPod Touch Self Selects Menu Items Without Touching Screen - 2nd Gen

With my iPod Touch sitting flat and motionless on a desk, without even touching it, menu items on the screen are self selecting, as if a ghost were touching the screen and selecting the item. It happens on the lower left portion of the screen on whatever screen is currently displayed. It will continue to select whatever item is in that area of the screen, advancing, or going back, until nothing is in that area of the screen to be selected. This "self Selection" happens at various times, from 1 second to a minute, from when the screen is displayed. Usually at about 5-10 second intervals, but it varies.
Here is what I have done thus far in attempts to "fix" the problem. None of them have worked and the problem still remains.
    - Restored the iPod from within iTunes (twice)
    - Complete Reset/Erase of the Touch on the unit itself (twice)
    - Ensured the battery was fully charged
    - Synced it with two entirely separate iTunes Libraries on 2 different computers
    - Cleaned the screen VERY well to ensure that no film or residue was on it (it is squeaky clean)
    - Slightly tried to flexed (very gently) the Touch to see if it would change this from happening
    - The shake feature is not the issue (turned off and not touching the iPod Touch)
    - Searched the web pretty thoroughly for answers
    Any thoughts...?

    You have the "Halloween Syndrome!!"
Good news though, it should clear up when Halloween is over with.
Seriously, it sounds like your screen digitizer needs replacing. Contact a third-party repair service. It will be cheaper to fix that going through Apple.

  • Interfacing IPOD Nano 3rdGen to other items

I have no problems connecting my Nano 3Gen to my computer with iTunes and it syncs perfectly fine but I've tried to connect it to other equipment like a brand new clock radio with an iPod dock and to an exercise equipment that had a iPod interface cable. When initially connected the Nano will wake up (screen turns on), it will charge while connected, but the item I'm connecting to will not recognize the Nano to function with it.
I can't find any setting that might be preventing this. Does anyone know any reason why the Nano will not interface with other equipment?
    Thanks,

How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically (syncing) all songs and playlists then delete the files from the iTunes library. In the iTunes Library highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard. If you're updating the iPod from a selected playlist delete the song from the playlist and it will remain in the library. Next time you connect they will deleted automatically from your iPod.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron (the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the usual song list. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly as above by pressing the delete key on your keyboard.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod
