IPod nano malfuctioning headphone port

My iPod nano was recently serviced for intermittently pausing and unpausing itself when no buttons were pressed, even when on hold. I put the reason down to a faulty headphone port as it has not paused itself when the headphones were taken out ever. This is a built-in feature of the iPod nano, and having a faulty headphone port would explain why it intermittently pauses itself. Apple service have replied in saying that there was no fault with the iPod.
This is utterly ridiculous as we have another iPod nano in the household which does not intermittently pause itself and does pause itself when the headphones are taken out of the headphone socket.
I am disgusted that Apple would sooner regard it as no fault than to try to fix it!
With all the good service and hardware over more than 13 years, I am very disappointed at Apple's response.

I have been frustrated greatly on Apple's behalf by this, but I would very much like to have my iPod nano fixed. It is completely useless listening to it when I am running or exercising as I have to continously stop to press play.
Is there any way for me to make sure that Apple fix the headphone port when it is serviced?

I've got a 7 year old 30gb video ipod and the headphone port no longer works.
I went to the Apple shop and they said it is now vintage and they can't fix my baby they offered me 10% to trade her in for a new model...
what else can I try to save her?  I've tried cleaning and wiggling and restoring. Everything looks and feels ok.

I've just found 'iPod Dock Connector Headphone Jack' on ebay it as an adapter that will connect my earphones via the wide ipod port better than 10% of something new

  • Using IPod Nano With Klipsch Port

I have played my Ipod Classic on a Klipsch port for years and never had a problem. When I try to play my new IPod Nano on my Klipsch port, I get a strange error message that says something to the effect that "equipment is not compatible to charge Nano." I have no trouble playing my Classic on a port. Can't I play my Nano on a port? Thank you.

Thanks - that explains it. The exact message I get is "Charging is not supported with this accessory" which makes sense based on your reply. Yes, it does play fine from the Klipsch dock. I'll just charge from my computer.

  • IPod nano Lanyard Headphones 2nd gen problem

I have been using it for about 3 months. The left ear one's volume suddenly decreases to about half of the right one's volume while I was listening for an hour. How long can this headphones last? Does it have any form of warranty? And is there any way to fix this?

on all nanos, the headphone hole is on the bottom. the only thing on the top of the nano is the hold switch.
unless i misunderstood your question, no, it won't work.

  • IPod Nano 6G headphone jack

I accidently dropped the ipod and the headphone jack (the hole where you insert the earphones) have been pushed in and I cannot insert any earphones in. Is it possible to get a replacement, i have purchased it at a store and still under warranty.

    "It's only a third..."
What does that mean? Somehow, the moisture sensor was activated. That does not mean that your iPod is going to fail. It does mean that, if you have a warranty claim, it is likely to be rejected due to exposure to moisture.

  • IPod nano Lanyard Headphones

If you have the Lanyard headphones pluged in, can you plug in the ear buds from the top of the nano and still get sound? This is my way of avoiding buying a splitter. Will it work?
    thanks.

  • IPod Nano Lanyard Headphones - good?

    Hi all!
I am interested in purchasing a pair of the new lanyard headphones, just wondering if anyone has already got them and what they think of them? How secure is the nano hanging there? I'd be afraid of it detaching from the lanyard port and falling to the ground as I'm moving around.
    any input?
    thanks so much!

I wear my lanyard headphones underneath a dress shirt while at work! My orginal intention was to use it at the gym, no wires to get caught on weights, ect. However, I've decieded to keep using the arm band while at the gym b/c of sweat and stink!
So, the lanyard get's put on each morning and I have head phones comming out of my collar.
They aren't the best sounding headphones ever and like most apple products are very expensive but they are useful.

  • Ipod nano 7th headphone issues

I pod nano 7th when put the in ear headphones RHA approved apple  headphones in  cant hear anything but the nano plays the music track
So then push jack in with force  music heard but it slips down to default and music unheard again, it has to be pushed in hard in order to hear music which
    is far from ideal.
When try another pair apple headphones that arent in ear they work as they sit flush with the player but when rotate the jack music stops and they are for a shuffle not nano
Pacifically brought a pair of in hear ones as I cant  use the conventional kind as they fall out of ear now tried four pairs including the padded ear kind
What can possibly try these arent cheap headphones and the player is only a year old, but not covered under warranty.
Tried to put it to factory settings restore it same thing.

If it is only happening when you connect it using the Lightning cable I would guess you have a bad cable.

  • Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!
Someone somewhere must know a way around this........ as the London apple store "has never heard of this problem"

  • IPod nano and smart tv

I tried plugging my IPod nano 7th gen into my Samsung smart TV (using the lightening usb connection) and I can't get it to play music through the tv. Am I not doing the right thing or is not an available feature.

The Lightning-to-USB connection is meant for data transfer, such as when you connect it to your computer for syncing.  So, unless the Samsung TV has the ability to transfer data from an iPod nano, that USB port is probably for the Samsung TV (if it's "smart") to connect external storage (like an external hard drive or USB flash drive).
Some Apple devices (that run iOS - iPhone, iPod touch, iPad) can play media directly to a TV, using this adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter
However, the iPod nano is not one of them.

  • Using iPod nano in cold wheather

I go for a run everyday with my iPod nano. It is covered with a nano tube and invisible shield to protect it and to cover up the 2 scratches I made. So I am very pleased with it. But now that winter is coming up, that means another harsh Canadian winter. Temperatures are usually around -15 C (5 F) in the morning. I use the iPod nano lanyard headphones, and I figured if I placed it in my jacket, it would help it heat up a bit. I know it says the the iPod nanos work best at 0 C (32 F) and higher, but I'm wondering how cold they can actually work. And is it bad for the iPod nano making it suffer in the cold?

Due to the chemical make up of batteries, playing an iPod in a very cold environment decreases battery life. Unlike a hot environment, this is a temporary condition. Once molecules in the battery warm up, the battery will return to its previous capacity.
iPod Temperate Zone. Your iPod works best from 32° to 95°F. You should store it in environments of -4° to 113°. That’s 0° to 35°C and -20° to 45° for the metrically inclined. Keeping your iPod as near room temperature as possible (22°C) is ideal.

  • Ipod nano charging problem

    I got ipod nano today.
After unpack I tried to charge 5 hours but it never charge up.
So I disconnected usb cable and tried to operate ipod even there was mark of very low charged mark on screen.
But it turned off suddenly with message of low battery.
So I had to charge again but I saw the big low battery sign with thunder mark on the center of screen with some buzzing sound and tiny bip sound when I connect ipod nano to USB port.
    Are these normal?

Bought an Ipod Nano today and I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM!!
I could not start it at all, charged it for like 4 hours, nothing helped.
What I though could do, was mount it to the PC, and the PC could feel it, and I could see the drive etc.
Now to the solution, I ran the update Ipod program, and updated the program in the Ipod, and RIGHT AWAY it lighted up and now it seems like it works?
Really strange.. Try to update yours to!

  • IPod Nano Headphone Port Glitch, Need Help!

I have an iPod nano 5th gen that was given to me on christmas, 2009. It worked fine for a year, but when I finally used headphones/earbuds that were not apple based my iPod started to glitch.
The glitches are like this, I'll be listening to a song, and if I make any sudden movements that wiggle the headphone jack in the port, it will fast forward/skip/pause the song, I run so this is really annoying, I have cleaned my ipod, carefully cleaned the inside of the port, and made sure my headphone jacks are clean. I tracked it down to a side-to-side motion of the jack in the port, so it would seem that the male connector is short-circuiting the female part. I have contemplated taking apart my iPod, but that is my last resort. I have been waiting for a chance to go to an Apple store, and ask a genius about it, but since my computer isn't a 2 hour drive away I decided to ask here first.
If you have any suggestions or answers please give them, I don't wan to buy any earbuds (which I need) until I can be sure they won't glitch my iPod. Also if you know how to take apart an iPod so I could check for dust or some sort of grit in the system that would be great as well.

Contact the 3rd party vendor since it's their product.

Then use the earplugs that came with your iPod Nano.

  • I just purchased an iPod Nano (Red) and want to connect to my truck's speakers.  There is no built-in direct port.  What is the best product to buy to make that connection?

I just purchased an iPod Nano (Red) and want to connect to my truck's speakers.  There is no built-in port to connect.  What is the best product to purchase in order to make a connection?  Thx, Robert

Your truck's audio system may not have a specialized docking port for iPods, or a USB port, but does it have a standard "auxiliary" audio input port?  It would look like headphones jack on the iPod.  If so, you can use a cable like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
to connect your iPod's output to the car's audio.
Otherwise, if your audio system is old enough to have a casette tape player, you can get a device that looks casette tape with a cable coming out of it, and play your iPod through the casette tape player.  The other way is to get a device for the iPod that sends the audio, through a low-power radio transmitter, to your car's radio (at a frequency that is normally not used by local radio).  From my experience, neither of those methods work well, in terms of maintaining full audio quality.

  • I recently purchased a bluetooth headphone set that I have been able to pair to my iphone6 , but it is not showing up on my ipod nano 7th gen, anyone else had a similar problem ?

anyone had trouble syncing a bluetooth headset to an ipod nano 7th gen ? I was able to sync to my iphone6 , but no luck with the ipod, even after a reset & several attempts

THanks for the suggestion deggie , but I have already tried this without any success. I just mentioned pairing it to prove that the headphones weren't defective. I also tried reaeting the ipod through itunes hoping that might help , but still no detection on the ipod
