IPod nano manual is no good!

Hi,
got this big problem that wouldn't be so big if I had the right manual. I have an iPod nano 2nd gen (4GB), and for almost any questions I have (how to transfer photos, use it as a hard disc, etc) they explain it to me with what seems to be 3 easy steps:
1)Open iTunes, then select the iPod nano in the main window
2)Click on ''music''
3)Select ''synchronise the music''(for instance), then click on ''all songs and playlists''.
The thing is, there is no such thing on my iTunes as iPod nano in the main window. So the other steps are pretty useless to me. I asked a friend of mine who is very good at those things and said that it was like I had the old manual for the new iPod (cos he didn't find the ''iPod nano on the main window'' either. So what's going on? Can you help?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting document? It may be of some help:iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • IPod Nano manually manage songs - please help

I've set iPod to manually manage as I have music on home computer and have purchased music on the office computer since we have DSL. I have tried to drag each purchased song from Library to my iPod in the source list but they never show up once I disconnect. What am I doing wrong?

Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer and iPod..
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
If they don't, please post back for more suggestions.

  • IPod nano manual says one must have iTunes 12.1.1 installed. I have a Mac... Is there a version 12.1.1?

I am learning about my new  iPod nano 7th generation and it says in the online manual that one needs version 12.1.1 of iTunes in order for the nano to work!?!? I just  updated my version of iTunes on my iMac to version 11.4. My computer says I have the latest version. So what is 12.1.1 all about? I am totally baffled and frustrated...as usual!!  Can someone please clear this up for me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

    Yes, unless a problem occurs.

  • How to update the firmware of iPod nano manually?

iTunes reminded me there's iPod software 1.1.2 available, and I tried to download it. But the speed kept about several kb/s and even for some reason the downloading interrupted itself.
Someone told me to download the software by myself and then upgrade it manually. I use the link he gave and successfully download it, the .ipsw file. However when I tried to follow the instrutions, click "shift" and "update" button on itunes simultaneously and then choose the directory of the .ipsw file.
But it didn't appear like that! What I got is the same as I click only "update". iTunes tried to contact with the server and then started to download the firmware. There was no chance I can select the directory of the file located on the hard disk.
    I also tried opt+update, cmd+update, it wouldn't work either.
I wanna know if this is the officially admissive way to update the ipod software? Any suggestion about the procedure?
    Regards

The update consists of 2 files, the .ipsw and a .ipsw.signature file. If you don't have both iTunes can't do what you want and it tries to download the missing file which, by the way, is much smaller: 532 bytes versus 59M.
The other part of the procedure (Shift-Update), I don't know. It doesn't sound logical, what if your iPod is up to date? can you do the manual operation? No, I just tested. Why not? It doesn't make sense.
Where the instructions an Apple reference?

    Hi Bander Bunny!
I have a couple of articles that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes first. This has to be done in a specific manner, and this article can help you do that:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Another option is that you may want to try syncing your iPod nano manually. Here's is an article that pertains to manually managing the content of your iPod nano:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
It's also possible that this issue resides with your iPod nano. Here is a website that will help you troubleshoot the iPod nano:

  • The replacement battery for Ipod nano true or false

I was tryin to figure out if it was true that you can't replace your battery in an Ipod nano unless you have good sodering skills or unless you send it in and replace it. Because I bought a third party replacement battery for my Ipod Nano, and it gave me the instructions to the normal Ipod. Then I saw a lot of discussion posts saying that you can replace the battery for an Ipod Nano, so I need to know if you can or can't.

    It is possible...
If you Google search for it, you can probably find instructions (with pictures) on how to do it. Basically, you need to use something (such as a tiny flathead screwdriver or a putty knife) to separate the plastic front case from the aluminum back case. Then, you can disconnect the battery that's inside of it and connect your new battery. Most third party iPod batteries recommend charging it completely before first use.
It is, however, easier to send your iPod in for service for a battery issue, and just have them replace your iPod for you.
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
To my knowledge, you don't need any exceptional soldering skills. I've replaced batteries in some older iPods, and needed nothing but a tiny flathead screwdriver that I use to do general maintenance on my saxophone.

  • Using the itunes graphic equalizer with my ipod nano

I read in the ipod nano manual that it is possible to use the graphic eq in itunes for my ipod nano. You have to switch off the equalizer on the ipod in the 'playback' section which I did. Then the manual says that you can assign tracks to the graphic eq on itunes. Unfortunately it doesnt say exactly how to do that. I dont like the eq presets on the ipod nano and would like to use the graphic equalizer on itunes to eq all of the songs on my ipod nano. Does anyone know how to do this. Please help as this problem has taken over my life!!

Are you planning to create custom EQ settings in iTunes and expect them to transfer to the iPod? "The iPod does not use custom equalizer settings made in iTunes. You can't create custom equalizer settings on iPod, or transfer custom settings to iPod": iPod: About the Equalizer

Hello zeezee, and welcome to the forum.
The magic title is "Hardware Maintenance Manual". From the FAQ, here's a page of all available HMMs. Also very handy are the videos at the Lenovo Service and Support Training site.

  • IPod nano and laptop?

The IPod nano manual says that a "keyboard" USB port will not be adequate to power the device. Does this mean that an IPod nano cannot be used with a laptop at all?

No. A keyboard USB port isn't powered. Some USB hubs (which a keyboard USB port is most akin to) aren't powered, some are. If it's powered, you can attach your Nano to that USB port. Is your laptop powered? Yes. Are a laptop's USB ports powered? Yes. So connect away! <grin>

  • Two ipod nanos with one that cannot dwnld songs

I purch. 2 nano ipos and installed the first one, then the second, but the screen to load or click and drag to load onto the nano is locked. Is there a way around having two nano's dwnld from the same computer? the same icon for itunes that is on my desktop?
    I appreciate your reply.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You would want to manually update...
    Manually Updating iPod
(You can play the movie in the above link)
Then you can drag the songs to the iPod.
Of course, you could just let it automatically update as it should be doing now and iTunes should load all the songs on your computer onto it.
But, to answer your question, if you want to drag music to the iPod nano, manually update.

  • HT4059 I have a 7th Generation iPod Nano and cannot get audiobooks to sync with it. The manual says this is a valid feature but I can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

I am trying to sync an audiobook from iTunes to a 7th Generation iPod Nano. The manual says audiobooks can be synced to this device by going to iTunes, selecting the Book button and selecting sync audiobooks but when I select the Book button I do not see any syncing options to select.  What am I doing wrong?

  • When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano in which both have manually managed music, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  This problem started to occur all of a sudden. Any ideas other than the resyncing?

When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  Everything was working fine and transferring successfully and then this problem started to occur all of a sudden. My music is managed manually and always has. I looked online for a solution and they all involve resyncing the library and unchecking voice memos. Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to resync my music or reinstall itunes?

Have you powered off and then back on the router?
Have you done anything to the router recently like changed a setting?
    Have you tried:
    - Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network SettingsTo me the error sounds like a network/router problem vice aan iPod problem.

  • My ipod nano isn't syncing when I try and change the setting in manually, but is however syncing when I launch the itunes by plugging it in. I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue and/or had been able to fix the problem?

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • IPod Nano appears on my list of iTunes devices. Summary tab shows 928 manually managed songs; music tab however shows nothing. Where did the songs go?

I recently undated software all around, reloaded windows 8 and upgraded to windows 8.1.  My iPod Nano (1.0.4) appears on my list of iTunes (11.1.3) devices. The summary tab for my iPod shows 928 manually managed songs (2 of 8 GBs still empty).  However, when I click on the music tab immediately to the right of the summary tab, iTunes no longer shows my songs, playlists or audio books.  Instead iTunes invites me to "sync" my iPod and kiss my contents goodbye. Why won't the songs appear in iTunes anymore?  My iPod still plays the songs and they appear on the tiny iPod screen.   iTunes however won't show them. iTunes still allows me to drag and drop new music and books into my iPod but iTunes won't let me see the particulars.  I want to delete some audio books I've finished but iTunes won't let me to them.  What gives?

Thanks iPodmaven for showing me how to check the arrow to the right of the device image and convert it into a inverted triangle.  Problem solved!  Thanks
