IPod Nano Memory

I have deleted everything on my IPod Nano and it's still showing 1.61 GB used. Does anyone know why that is and how I can change it?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You are not alone, since this is quite a common problem.
Have you tried restoring your iPod?
Restoring your iPod
After tring restoring your iPod, and it doesn't work, them try formatting your iPod trhough "My Computer". This has worked for posters on here (and elsewhere) to get their iPods to quite displaying fake memory usage.
NOTE: If for some reason you can't resotre your iPod, then don't try this or start it up until you can restore your iPod, since a restore is needed after this process.
Plug in your iPod.
Go to "My Computer".
Find your iPod's listing there (typically "E" or sometimes "F".)
Right-click on it, "Format".
After this, be sure to restore your iPod again (see the link above).
I hope this helps,

  • Itunes showing my ipod nano memory as -19.48 gb?

I suddenly developed this problem on connecting my ipod to my comp today. The ipod nano was automatically renamed "198", and the memory capacity as shown by itunes was erraneous. Teh result is taht i cant copy a single song into my ipod anymore.
strangely, this seems to be an itunes related issue...as the ipod works fine on anotehr comp. However, i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, updated it, restored my ipod, changed the usb ports, tried both usb 1.1 and usb 2.0 ports, scanned my comp for possible virri and spyware throughly, and even attempted some registry tinkering without any help.
Anybody could provide a clue as to what sort of problem this is?

IT seems another helpful user replied to a similar query. Apparently, windows xp's horrible disk management function messed itunes up by assigning the ipod a drive letter already in use (h:, was mapped to a network drive).
Its not the first time this has caused problems, as i use a digital media center style comp with 1tb space, and have a dedicated swap drive as well. This kicked me out of my network the last time i got a new hdd, wasting hours spent in frustrated repair. **** bugs.
anybody else who has this problem, please see this:

  • Ipod nano memory glitch?

Hi all. i've just bought an ipod nano 2gb and its barely a day old. being the excited me, i've transfer songs like 5 times, ie connecting and disconnecting the adapter from the nano.
on the last transfer, i forgot to click on the eject button and disconnected the adapter from my nano. the result was that my whole songs disappeared and i thought then i'd still have my 2gb back. but no. apparently, what it appears is that i've only 148 songs left to upload. (2gb is 500 songs). so, the memory is used up but my songs aren't there!
so, what happen? can i get my 2gb back w/o goin down to the applecentre? help? thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

This happened to my nano a while back, you should restore your ipod. Connect it to you computer, then open the ipod updater, go to restore. This will delete all of your songs from your ipod, install the latest software update, and return your ipod to factory settings, hopefully resolving the glitch p.s just remeber to eject before unplugging next time

  • Ipod nano memory issue?

I have an ipod nano 4gb. The capacity is listed as 3.7 gb which I understand, but it says only 3 gb is available. Even when everything is erased, it still says that. I can load up to 3gb of songs, and then no more. Also, whether I load on 25 songs or 250 songs,it still says 3.0 gb available. Can anyone tell me what's going on?
      Windows XP

Sorry, one more thing... I can only load on about 2.4 gb of songs, or about 520 or so. So I can't even load on the 3 gb that it says is available.

  • IPOD Nano memory keeps erasing

I used my IPOD Nano just yesterday and it worked fine. I put it away overnight and didn't touch it. I went to use it the next day and there was nothing on it. No big deal I thought, I will just put the songs back on from my computer. So I hooked up the IPOD and transfered the songs. All the song showed they were on the IPOD. However, when I ejected my IPOD from the computer it still shows no songs at all. The wierd thing is it still shows I have used 1.36GB of my 2GB total. Can anyone help fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jared

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iPod updater

  • Ipod nano-memory full-how to delete music to free up space

how do u delete music and other stuff from ipod

There are several methods of deleting songs from the iPod and/or iTunes, and the method you choose depends on the settings you have selected for your iPod.
If you have the iPod set to automatically transfer songs, and you no longer want a copy of those songs on either the iPod or in iTunes, simply delete the songs in iTunes. Highlight the songs you no longer want then right click and select "clear", or from the edit menu select "clear". Next time you connect the iPod, the songs will be deleted from there also.
Only do this if you no longer want the songs on both the iPod and your computer.
You can also use the "only update checked songs" method in the iPod options (right click on the iPod in the source list in iTunes and select options, then select "only update checked songs"). With this preference checked, you can remove the check mark from the songs in iTunes that you no longer want on the iPod. The next time you connect the iPod, those unchecked songs will be removed from the iPod whilst still being retained in iTunes. You can check and uncheck songs as you change your mind about what songs you want to put on the iPod.
If you have the iPod set to manually manage your songs, and you want to delete the song from the iPod only, then select the iPod in the source list of iTunes. Highlight the song(s) you no longer want on the iPod, right click and select "clear", or use the edit menu as previously mentioned.
This method only deletes the songs from the iPod, so if you no longer want the song in iTunes also, you'll need to delete it from there separately using the method above.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, these settings can be found in the summary screen.
If you want to delete everything from the iPod and completely erase the hard drive and start from scratch, then you can restore the iPod to factory settings.
Only do this if you have the songs in your iTunes library, or a back up somewhere other than the iPod itself.

  • Memory on iPod Nano

I have the 4 gb iPod nano and only have 200 songs on it, no videos. This amounts to 910.8 mb of memory taken up by my songs. For some reason it says i have used 1.98 gb and have 1.75 gb free. This doesn't make sense to me becuase i dont see what is taking up all of my space, i thought i was supposed to be able to fit around 1k songs. Can someone please tell me how i can fix this or make more space?

You're importing settings are fine. Now, the only thing you can do to resolve a storage capacity conflict like you have is to do a restore on your Nano. I want to make sure you know that a restore wipes your Nano back to factory settings, including erasing all your music. A restore DOES NOT affect your iTunes library. You restore using the updater which you can download to your desktop from the following link. Once you have the updater downloaded, you will have to open it & install it. After installation, open the updater, conncecting Nano ONLY WHEN asked. Once Nano is docked, there should be 2 choices, update or restore, choose restore. When the restore is completed, you should be able to re-sync your Nano to iTunes & be back in business. Post back if you have any questions.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen memory issues?

Hello. My iPod Nano 5th gen is great, and I've been able to use it for 2 years now, and it serves me well. Perfect condition since the day I got it. However, there are some memory issues...
First off, I have only two recorded videos totaling 1 minute and 29 seconds, so it shouldn't take up much memory at all. And I don't have any other videos on my iPod either.
Well, when I go to "About" under "Settings", then it always says that there are only 902 MB left, and it's an 8 GB. What's weirder is that it says that 6.1 GB are being used my audio, and I only have 712 songs. When I select all of the songs that are on my iPod on my PC, then it tells me that it totals to only 3.53 GB. Kinda weird, and I really need this extra space now.
Secondly, I should tell you that I don't use iTunes to syncronize my iPod. I use a third-party program called CopyTrans Manager because it's simpler, easier to navigate, and faster in my opinion. Idk what it is, but it's bothering me. Hopefully some of you can tell me where I can go to eliminate these issues and finally get my iPod back to better use and full memory.
Help me please. I don't know where to go next...
    Thankee.

I don't use iTunes to syncronize my iPod. I use a third-party program called CopyTrans Manager
Contact the manufacturer.  Check with them to determine if the issue is with them.

  • Hey, when i deblockaded my ipod nano 5thgen, all the songs and vids' dissapeared but my memory is still filled as 'others'... How do i get my music back? (restoring doesn't work cuz the songs were from a laptop, but it crashed...) thx!!

Hey everyone, when my ipod( nano, 5th generation) was stucked, i deblockaded it, but then all the music and video's dissapeared.... And  when i check thee info it says '6.4 GB others' and '567 MB free.... And don't know how this could happen but i really want all my music back!! And i cant put all the songs back because the laptop i used for this ipod crashed and it's still in the store to ffix it... So now i have a lapop that i borowod from the store but i only have 100 songs on that laptop ( manual mode, so i can put them on the ipod but i cant tpuch the others)  and that means i would download 1200 songs, and that really takes a long time... And my memory is full, so i can't put new songs on it.... S, the question: is there a way i can get all my songs back?? And if that is impossible, how do i clear my memory, so it's free for new songs??
    Already thanx a lot!!
    mmuuuuaahh,
    Charlaih

Well, shut my mouth!  There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.
Is there a name for this when you end up replying to your own aggravating question?  That's what I did.  Now I can go out and listen.  It's only 91 degrees.  Heaven. Thanks, Apple.

This forum is for iPod only, best post questions 2 and 3 in other forums.
If you run out of space (and 1 GB is not too much, I have a 2GB iPod Nano and can barely fit all on it), there's no other option than cycling the song on a regular basis. Make a couple of playlists that fit in 1GB, set the iPod to manual management, and replace one playlist with another one every couple of days.

  • IPod nano 2g memory

how much memory does the Ipod nano 2g, comes with? i heard that the games, notes and all the extras, even the os use some space in the 2g flash memory

Its not really these factors that affect the disk size. To keep things simple, the hard/flash drive people and the computer people work out the sizes differently:
    Hard/Flash Drive People: 1GB =1000MB
    Computer People: 1GB =1024MB
So you can store 1.8GB worth of content on your iPod.

  • Reclaim memory from iPod nano when deleting songs

I have an iPod nano 8Gb (second generation). When I delete songs, I notice that it does not reclaim the memory space that these songs took up. I have disconnected iPod from iTunes, shut down iTunes and then reconnected, and it still does not reclaim this memory space.
How do you recalim this memory space?
    PC 2.4GHz   Windows XP

I would suggest that you restore your iPod, to completely clear it off.
See this: Restoring your iPod to factory settings
It might resolve whatever internal issues your iPod is having with processing space/used space on the flash drive.

  • PSP w/ 2gb memory stick VS. iPod nano 2gb

    What would you rather have?
PSP with a 2gb memory stick or iPod nano 2gb
PSP has gaming and internet capabilities though
but iPod nano is EXTREMELY portable and with the nike + apple sport kit launching soon if your a runner it would be cool

They really serve completely different purposes. I have both and would never really consider using the PSP for music. It's just too big & clunky for that. It's great for games though.
What are you looking for, a portable music player, or a portable game system?
    Cheers!

  • Other Memory issue IPOD Nano 8GB

My new 8GB Ipod Nano is indicating that 4.6 GB of memory is under other? Does any one know how to delete other so I can add more songs. I can only hold 526 songs on a 8GB Nano??? Is this a known memory problem?
    Any help would be appreciated

There certainly should NOT be 4.6GB of "other". This indicates that your PC wrote files on to the iPod that the iPod cannot read.
In iTunes, set the iPod so that disk use is allowed - this mounts the iPod like any other disk in My Computer (Windows) or the desktop (Mac). Look to see what is there, it might give you a clue. You can also "Restore" the iPod in iTunes to wipe it clean.
I have seen this occur on a friend's iPod when her automatic backup system assumed that the iPod was a destination disk and wrote a system backup to it. This happens only in Windows due to Microsoft's continued use of lettered drives rather than real disk names - the iPod had temporarily used the same letter as her regular backup drive and thus the backup program wrote to it. On Macs there are no letter drives and so each one is correctly recognized by name.
