Ipod nano (new) no sound on resumption

I have downloaded my audible books without problem, but when I resume listening the following day, having cancelled "hold", the reading starts up on the time bar but there is simply no sound. If I then reset I am returned to zero and have to scrub forward to the required position.
I have returned one iPod with this fault but the replacement has the same problem!!

The jack on the Nano is very tight when it is new. Push the headphones all the way in until the plastic on the headset jack is flush with the body of the Nano.

Does the iPod nano can record sounds connecting "headphones with microphone"?

    Hi uptight,
Yes, the iPod Nano does support MP4 files.
You can find more information about the files the iPod supports here: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
You can convert many videos right from iTunes. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211 will walk you through the process with sample files.

  • 5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked.

5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked. any suggestions? i don't want to replace any of the parts inside if at all possible.
I have a 5th generation 8GB iPod nano. I bout it off of eBay in May of 2010 and it has worked great until now (Apr 2011). The 5th gen plays music through the headphone jack even when no ear buds are plugged in. I was using it one day and it just stopped. I tried resetting it manually and automatically and I tried reinstalling iTunes. Nothing has worked. Now it won't even play sound though the ear buds (or the aux hook up in my car), only when it is docked to my iHome. Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to replace the iPod or any parts inside if at all possible. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED! THANKS!

Headphone jacks are only good for so many in and out usages.  Usually its the headphone jack itsefl that goes bad first but sometimes it is the internal part.  If you are lucky you can clean out the inside and get it to work.
These devices are not made to last for someone who actually has those headphones around there neck and acually uses there listening devices through out the day plugging it in and out.  This is not in any way an Apple thing, it is a problem with many devices.  The male ends tend to get dirty hanging around then scratch the female end when used.  In fact, using higher end headphones you can really notice even the smallest particles of dust on the male end of plug when used, that is the small popping you might notice when the cord moves.
Hopefully its a problem on the male side of things.
I would recommend a person that wants to use headphones alot to keep a small 2 inch extension plugged into there device that can be replaced when it goes bad inplace of wearing out the original plug.
Again, this is not an Apple problem alone.

  • Can I connect my Ipod Nano to my sound system with amplifier

Is it possible to connect my Ipod nano to my sound system which has an amplifier. If so any problem will occur to my ipod nano.

The usual way of doing this is to buy the universal dock, then use the line out jack on the dock to connect to your amp via a cable that has a mini jack (like the one on your headphones) at one end and 2 RCA phono plugs at the other end (to connect to line in sockets on your amp).
You can do this direct from the headphone socket on the iPod instead of buying the dock, but personally I don't think the sound quality is as good this way.

  • Ipod Nano 7 - No sound comes out of the headphones, and i tried different headphones... Can you help? What shall i do?

Hello ! No sound comes out of my ipod nano 7. I tried different headphones, all working on other players, but nothing comes out of the ipod nano. Of course I turned the volume up and made sure to press on play... Anybody to help me out? Thanks a lot !

Just to expand on what Chris said.
The phono inputs of a stereo amp are designed to accept the inputs of a moving magnet (or sometimes a moving coil) phono cartridge on a turntable. These are low output devices and so the phono input is engineered to amplify the signal.
A line level output such as the iPod doesn't need such amplification and so, if you connect the iPod to the phono input of your stereo you will overload that input. The sound will be distorted and in many instances may cause damage to the speakers. The phono input is for turntables only. Connect the iPod to a line level input as previously mentioned.
The reason you will get a better sound from the iPod when connected to a stereo and using the line out port from the dock (and not the headphone jack on the iPod itself), is that the headhpone socket is powered by a low quality amp. It's meant to drive an easy load like headphones and not the input of a stereo.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen sound broken.

My iPod nano 5th Gen 16g's sound quality last night got messed up and it is horrible, makes it unuseable. Also, when you change the volume, it shows that it is changing, but the sound does not change, it is "stuck" at the same volume. I tried restarting it, reformatting it (or whatever it is called) in iTunes, and nothing works. Does anyone know how to fix this, or is it a problem with the hardware that I can't fix myself?

See here for more information and assistance on how to set up your iPod for service via Apple.

  • IPod Nano + new MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I'm planning on getting my wife an iPod Nano for Xmas. I'll be using my MacBook Pro as the enabling/syncing computer for it.
    My dilemma:
The bulk of the music my wife is likely to transfer to her new iPod is all located on hard CDs, i.e. not in my iTunes library.
Is my only solution to buy the Super CD/DVD drive for the MBPro, and then load the music into my iTunes library from which I can manually sync her stuff?
Or is there another solution not involving any additional hardware?
    Many thanks for your help!
    Andre

    Thanks for your reply!
Actually, many of the CDs have been ripped into iTunes on my old iMac (2004, running OS X 10.4), which is still a viable machine (I still record with it), but the OS is incompatible with the newer versions of iTunes. In fact, the iTunes store doesn't even acknowledge that I have a legitimate copy of iTunes. So practically the only thing I can do with that iMac is transfer music into its iTunes library from sources like CDs.
The MacBook Pro I have is the retina display version, so buying the Super CD drive would be the way to go.
But your reply also hints at another solution that I had not considered:
I do have a external G drive with lots of capacity still. It does have a USB 2.0 port which works with the 3.0 ports on the MBP. I suppose I could transfer the iMac library contents as MP3s onto the G drive, and then load those into the iTunes library on the MBP. Would that work?
I think I may still get a CD/DVD drive for the MacBook, but this manual transfer may at least be a workaround of some kind.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Best,
    Andre

  • IPod Nano has no sound

    Hi,
I have a second gen iPod nano that was bought off eBay for Xmas.
I have downloaded some songs onto it but get no sound - not even the clicker sound.
I have tried the 5R's with no luck. I have also tried different headphones, playing through speakers and computers etc. and still get no sound.
    Can anyone help?

Sounds like a problem i had with my U2 Special Edition ipod when i had it. Except i could play sound in Ipod Stattion/Speakers/Docks. It sounds like your Ipod Jack has got a problem and isn't working The little whole where you plus earphones/ipod into places either that or have you checked all the settings/volumes on the ipods?
If it has warrenty take ot back to Apple is all i can suggest.

  • IPod nano 2nd generation sound check bug

Every time I sync my 2nd generation 4Gb iPod nano with my computer to add songs to it, the sound check option becomes turned off, but it says it is still on. My iPod software is the latest version (1.1.3). Sound Check is turned on in iTunes, and I had it turned on in my iPod's settings menu before syncing. Turning it off and back on in the settings on the iPod after syncing re-enables sound check, but it turns back off every time I sync. I have also tried resetting and restoring the iPod nano, but it still has this problem. A third generation iPod nano used on the same computer doesn't have this problem. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong when syncing (auto sync, disk use enabled)?

This problem is also happening with my ipod, except the sound check function doesn't even work! My brother in product design says it could be a problem with the volume control chip in the ipod.

  • IPod Nano 2nd Gen Sound worse than 1st gen

Hi, i got a nano 2gen and the sound is not satisfactory to me. Especially the bass is not strong enough. Heard about other nano 2g user having the same problem. I'm using the Firmware 1.1.1. Heard that the firmware 1.1 sounded better!
Will there be another upgrade improving the sound?

The iPod eq is, in my opinion, trash and I never use it.
I have no wish to be told that the frequency settings for "rock" for instance is how I should be listening to rock music. Those settings are only the opinion of whoever made that preset in the first place.
This is a very subjective issue however, and I appreciate that some like to use the preset eq. One person's audio nirvana would most likely have others reaching for the off switch! Ask yourself why many high quality audio amps don't even have tone controls.
The eq on devices such as the iPod is low quality, and as someone who works in the recording industry, I can tell you that it's only when you have an eq device costing many $/£/€ (such as a SoundCraft mixing console) does it produce anything other than a nasty effect.
If there's going to be any eq on a device such as the iPod, it ought to be at the very least user definable.
Each to his own though. : )

  • Ipod nano, new itunes, and windows vista

    Hello,
I just recently bought a new computer that came with windows vista. With all the problems i've been having, I was sure that I would have problems with iTunes...
Well everything went surprisingly well when installing the new iTunes and adding all of my music files to the library. I nervously connected my iPod to the USB, thinking it would erase all of my files but I was happy to discover that my computer recognized my iPod and remembered that I keep it so that I can manually manage my music.
Now the problem is that, when I connect my iPod it comes up with a list of tabs, (summary, music etc...)...the summary tab says that my iPod has 13M left out of 4 gigs which is correct...but when I click on the music tab, it does not show the list of music in my iPod...so I cannot edit what is on my iPod. It gives me the option of syncing my iPod to my iTunes library, but I don't want to do that because it will erase everything that is already on my iPod, and I'm afraid that I'll have problems after that such as not being able to add songs onto it. When I eject my iPod and look through it, I find all of the songs still on it....is there an option somewhere that I'm overlooking? Is this something that has to do with the new iTunes or do you think it may be something with Vista?
any input would be appreciated, thanks.

This has nothing to do with Windows Vista, it's basically just one of the changes from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7. If you look in the left-hand column of iTunes (the source list) you should see the name of your iPod below the word "devices." If you look to the left of the name of the iPod icon, you should see a small triangle that appears to be pointing toward the iPod. Click on it. You should now see an additional menu below the iPod's name. If you click on "music" below your iPod, it should show you a list of what's on your iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • Ipod nano 2nd Gen sound EQ reducing sound quality?

Hey there every one i have a slight complaint.
When ever i turn the sound EQ on to rock or anything else i can hear what sounds like static or crackling in the backgroud. Now its not to notice-able but its still annoying. And when i turn off EQ it goes away.
Im thinkin this is a firmware issue (i have 1.1)
any one else have this problem?

Something that many iPod users have known for awhile...iPod's EQ's leave much to be desired. The sound may be better depending on the type of earphones you use (I think a lot of people enjoy the Shure brand but I have never used them)....but it's a pretty well known issue that the EQ's need a lot of work.

  • Ipod nano new

    had nano working fine...then
    songs erased
when pluuging back into my mac (OSX), i get a "disk insertion"error. "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"...choices it gives..initialze, ignore, reject....initialize brings me to disk utility...., verify errors out.....
I have tried it on different macs in the house, same issue. i reset the nano, didn't work. it seems like a sofware thing???

In the future, it would be better to use the iPod updater and Restore the iPod. Disk utility may not always work, but the latest version of the iPod updater will make sure you have all the up to date software.
