Ipod nano & Nike Polar wearlink (+ also shoe band?)

To monitore while running the heartbeat using my ipod nano, is it enough to buy and connect the Nike Polar wearlink to Ipod Nano (5° and 6° gen.)?
I don't understand if it also needs the shoes band. Before to buy Nike Polar wearlink I'd like to be sure.
Tks very much for your help

Yes, you need the Nike+ kit to connect the Polar Wearlink.
Pay attention buying the Polar Wearlink, there are many different types. Be sure to chose the ones for Nike+.

  • New nano's & Polar Wearlink+

Will the new nano's still be compatible with the polar wearlink+ chest strap that's being sold through the Apple online Store? I just bought a new strap and am itching to get a new nano (so I don't have to worry about losing the dongle any longer ;-) but it'd suck to spend 140 Euro only to find out it won't talk to my new strap ...
As a side note - do any current Wearlink+ users know if the strap is compatible with other Polar gear? I tried getting a straight answer from Polar themselves but the reps I spoke to either didn't know or weren't sure.

If you need to load a special app, yu are probably out of luck.  You can't add apps to the new Nano.
If there's an Apple store near you, you could always take the chest strap there and try it out.
You could also call Apple Sales - they would be able to tell you.

  • 7th gen iPod nano nike distance very inaccurate

    Three runs until today.
For a track distance of 6.4 km the nano gives a result of 10.2 km (I the calibrated the nano with 6.4 km)
For a track distance of 3.1 km the nano gives a result of 1.58 km (I can not calibrate as it only offes a max. distance of 2.5 km to calibrate to)
For a track distance of 2.4 km the nano gives a result of 1.8 km (I can not calibrate as it only offes a max. distance of approx. 1.9 km to calibrate to)
    Will this improve??
P.S. It has the latest OS installed. 1.0.1

Without any kind of calibration whatsoever, my NIKE+ iPod Nano 7g is surprisingly accurate, given the fact that it only counts vertical acceleration impulses interpreted as steps.
On a 10.2km run (measured with MotionX GPS several times), it showed 9.97km. In other words, it underestimated by distance by  2.3%, which I think is OK considering the technology used. I didn't try it on a treadmill yet, but the "real-world" run was mostly on hard surface and in a flat area, using conventional running shoes.
In a hilly region with some trail sections across the woods, sometimes muddy, including jumps over fallen-down trees, it feels less accurate, but unfortunately I don't have GPS data on this specific path, so I cannot verify.
Next, I'll try on a treadmill. So far, however, I'm quite satisfied with the iPod 7G as a workout companion.
After all, I think counting steps might sometimes give even more conclusive results than measuring the actual distance, since it is hard to capture differences in soil and environment accurately, that would influence your energy consumption. On heavy slopes or in difficult terrain you typically make shorter steps, and the distance may be overestimated a bit, but will still give you an indication about the energy needed.

  • Need to erase all data from iPod Nano & Nike Receiver Chip

I bought a second hand nano with the nike receiver chip from a guy at school.
The ipod (and chip?) contains workout data that I would like erased because they are not my achievements.
    Can this be done?

  • IPod nano, Nike+ discrepancy between verbal miles and display miles.

I've only used my Nike+ 3 times with my 3G nano. I've attempted to calibrate it, but still the displayed miles are significantly more than what the woman tells me when I push the center button and at the end of the workout. Why should they be different?
Any clues on how to fix?
Currently running 1.0.2 software on the nano. iTunes wants me to update to 1.1, but disconnects my wireless connection every time I try to update. That's probably an issue for another forum.
    Thx!

There was a bug in an earlier version of the Nano software that caused the distance to be displayed in kilometers even though miles had been selected. The voice continued to give the distance correctly. You can test this out by dividing the distance displayed by 1.6. If it then agrees with what you're hearing, that's the problem.
Have you tried upgrading with a wired connection?

  • HT1632 Ipod Nano Nike Plus Workout Tracking

I do not remember creating an account on Nike Plus to track my workouts. I just realized that my ipod can be used as a pedometer, and have completed 3 workouts. The itunes library apparently sent the workout data to nikeplus.com, but I do not know how to retrieve it. Any ideas? Thanks!

You must logged into your Nike+ plus account online to view your previous workout history.

  • Is there an option to select the AM band on the Radio feature of my iPod Nano A1320?

I have an iPod Nano A1320 and I would like to use the AM band instead of the FM band to listen to a certain station in the area. I received the iPod as a gift used without any instructions and when I checked the manual online it didn't mention AM but it also didn't mention that FM was the only band.
Does anyone know for sure whether this version of the iPod nano can only accept the FM band and if it can accept AM signals, how would I go about doing so?
Thank you for your time in advance.

Thank you very much for the quick response. This answer my question, if in the shortest form.

  • My computer doesn't recognize my ipod nano 2nd gen

My computer running Windows 7 doesn't recognize my ipod nano 2nd gen.  Also my ipod not seen in my itunes.  I did all the reset stuff and nothing works.  Do you think it is just shot???

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. Are you a Mac or PC user?
Hm so have you also tried completely erasing your iPod?

  • Ipod nano plays with headphones but not when plugged in to player

I have a nano 16gb 4th or 5th generation.  It has worked fine up until about a week ago.  It works if I plug in the headphones, but not when it is plugged into the car stereo or an iHome.  Any thoughts?

    If:
-you and your husband have the same generation iPod nano
-they both have the same latest software
-you tried the car stereo with the same iPod charging cord.
(with 32 pins connector I just wanted to make sure it is not the headphone plug)
this means that the problem is indeed with your iPod nano.
Since you also said that before last week everything worked fine, something must've gone wrong after that.
This could be software-related or hardware-related. Did you try to connect it to your computer? Does the computer recognise it? Can you still charge it?
If the computer does recognise the iPod it might be a good idea to 'repair' your iPod via iTunes.
Or try the Five R's: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/# (more or less the same for 4th and 5th gen)
If your computer does not recognise it, it probably needs to be repaired. But since it is 4th or 5th generation I guess the warranty is void already, and you'll have to decide how much this is worth to you or if you wouldn't want to buy a new one.

  • Ipod nano restore

When I plug my nano into my imac, it says that it is corrupt and needs to be restored. SO i then try to restore it. Then it says that an unknown error occured (1418).
    How can i fix this
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have the same problem. With an ipod nano. But i also have to reset the ipod while it is pluged in to my computer, so itunes detect it, but it says it is a corrupt ipod. And if i dont reset the ipod, not even windows detect it. and when i try to restore it, the process takes 3 hours, and then jumps an error (1418).
IF i dont reset the ipod, it get frozen in the "do not disconnect screen", and after "safely removing it" it is frozen, with or without a reset.
I've tryed everything. but i can't just make itunes detect it as a common and normal ipod. (it works perfectly when it is not pluged in to a computer)

  • How to unfreeze ipod nano?

I purchased an ipod nano last night. Tried adding music manually and everything worked fine. Then, erased everything and tried the automatic sync. After ejecting the ipod, all I got was a home screen with a little box around the music app. Touching the screen would move the box around and swiping up and down would take it to the other home screen, but that is all. Updated all software and tried restarting every different way... still nothing. Using itunes on Vista with a nano 7. Any ideas?

    Hello James,
Congratulations on your new iPod nano!  It sounds like the VoiceOver feature maybe turned on.  I found some steps you can take to turn this off:
Turn off VoiceOver on iPod nano using VoiceOver gestures:
1  Click the Home button, then slide one finger around the screen until you hear “Settings.”
If you don’t hear “Settings,” swipe with two fingers to move to another screen and try again.
    2  Double-tap to open Settings.
3  Slide your finger up or down the screen until you see or hear General, then double-tap.
4  Slide your finger up or down the screen until you see or hear “Accessibility,” then double-tap.
5  Slide your finger up or down the screen until you see or hear “VoiceOver,” then double-tap.
6  Double-tap when you hear “VoiceOver switch button on.” You hear “VoiceOver off” as confirmation. You can once again use standard gestures to control iPod nano.
You can also deselect VoiceOver in the Summary tab when syncing with iTunes.  I found this information on pages 48-50 in the iPod nano User Guide:

  • IPod nano (7th generation) and iPod-Dock

first let me say I'm totally new to apple hardware.
I'm planning to buy a iPod nano 7gen. I also have a Yamaha PianoCraft 640 with an iPod-Dock.
Which cables are necessary to link the iPod nano to my Yamaha?
    thx

You might be able to use the above, call Yamaha and ask before you purchase.

  • Is new software around for Ipod Nano 5G with the Nike sensor and Polar wearlink HeartRateMonitor to get spoken feedback on heartrate-zone, so you get a warning if your heartrate is higher or lower than the predefined range.

    I have:
Ipod Nano 5G with Nike+ sensor and Polar wearlink Heartrate monitor:
works fine, linking is easy, but....
Software is rather minimal: Heartrate is on the screen and you get feedback when the center-button is touched.
To get better results, more functions would be useful, like defining a heartrate zone (like Polar`s own-zone) and automatic spoken feedback if the heartrate is out of the pre-defined range. Also automatic spoken feedback on actual and average heartrate every pre-defined time-interval would be very useful: like the spoken feedback on distance and actual pace I get on my Iphone with Nike+GPS
    Anyone have any suggestions ?

I have the same issue! I purchased a nano 6th, polar hrm so I could run and receive spoken feedback when my heart rate was outside my preset zone.  My suunto t3 used to beep when outside the preset zones.  Automatic, periodic beeps or spoken feedback is the most important information to receive during exercise. I hope apple can update the software to add this simple yet critical feature.
