Ipod nano not charging or being recognized by windows

have windows xp pro
cannot get ipod nano to charge or be recognized by windows
left it connected for the past couple hours
had to get a 2.0 usb pci card, other things are connected and working in the new card, its connected directly to the card

Ok go ahead and try and reset the ipod while it is plugged into the card you have for usb 2.0. You reset the ipod by moving the hold switch on top of the ipod a couple of times until it is white. Once you have done that go ahead and hold down the menu and the center select button for 6-10 seconds until you see the apple logo. After you see the apple logo let go of the buttons and see if the ipod is showing up.
Another thing you could try is taking the ipod to another computer and see if it shows up on that computer.
Also remove any other usb devices from the computer except the mouse and the keyboard.
If you still have this problem type in on the support web site msconfig and try that. If none of these steps help you take the ipod to the nearest apple store, or contact technical support and have the ipod sent in for repair.

  • IPod nano (5th gen.) being recognized by computer (Windows XP) but not iTunes. Please Help.

    Hello everyone,
         When I plug in my iPod nano 5th generation, my computer is recognizing it, but iTunes is not. I just recently bought it off of a friend and it was working perfectly. Today is the first time that it wouldn't connect to iTunes. I have tried using different USB ports and that didn't work. I plugged in my sister's iPod Touch and it worked fine. I don't want to have to try to uninstall/reinstall iTunes for fear of loosing some of the information on there. I have also read several things that say that that doesn't work, so I don't see any reason to take a pointless risk. If there is anything that I can do to get it to work? I would try another computer, but my home computer is the only one that I have. I really need to get it to work ASAP. PLEASE HELP!!

    If you check other error problems linked to this issue (example errors 1437 and 1439), you will note that these recognition issues have been prevalent for a lot of iPods (not only nanos and suffles) since iTunes version 7.5 went away. Seems like Apple doesn't have a clue, and doesn't want to have a clue. Many people all over the world have come up with things that have worked for them, but none of those fixes are working for me any more. Maybe this is just Apple's way of forcing people to buy their brand computers. It stinks. I am at a total loss as to what to do to get my Nano recognized at all in iTunes, and my Shuffles to sync. Obviously we are all venting our frustrations on an Apple hosted discussion board. Equally obvious is that no one at Apple is reading this stuff, further displaying that Apple simply does NOT CARE.
    If I ever in the next couple of years or so (see, I am not very optimistic) get an HONEST answer out of Apple, or a workable solution elsewhere around the internet, I'll do a follow-up post here. But, I am not very hopeful. I think my iPods have just become expensive chunks of junk, because I am NOT going to buy an Apple computer just for them.

  • IPod nano not charging on Windows XP

    My iPod nano won't charge at all, and I have Windows XP. After I plug my nano into my computer via USB, a white screen comes up on the nano that shows a "dead" iPod and the address for the Apple support website. Then the screen goes to the depleted battery icon, with the lightning bolt at the far left side of the battery sign(which isn't blinking). I've had my iPod plugged into my computer for over 4 hours, and nothing seems to be happening. Once in a while, the white screen with the dead iPod comes back up, but the battery still won't charge. If anyone could help me with this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks very much.

    Hi MsMayZ,
    I don´t want to sound negative, but that seems like a typical Windows XP problem.
    When I received my first Shuffle, it did not work on my XP machine, making me think that there´s a problem with the device. But then, I had the chance to setup a new PC from scratch (XP Pro, SP 2 etc.) and suddenly, the Shuffle worked like a charm. The same happened with my two Nanos.
    Windows XP obviously has some serious issues with USB on some machines or under some circumstances which are unfortunately nearly impossible to detect. Let me add, that all of a sudden, an USB scanner refused to work on one XP machine after updating it. With all the help I could get (hotline, Google, manufacturer support), there was no chance getting it back to work - nobody seems to know why...
    I know this sounds not very encouraging, but from my experience, if the Nano does not work, it´s most likely a scrambled XP installation
    (I am about to remove all USB stuff from the device manager and let XP reinstall it - but I am not sure if this will work...)
    kind regards
    Tom

  • Why is my 8 month old Ipod Nano not charging/synching?

    My Ipod Nano is no longer charging with the USB cable in either my laptop or my apple charger. It started to sporadically charge/synch and is now not doing it at all. Everything else works with USB drive on the laptop and I have no problems charging my Ipad on the apple charger so the issue must be with the Ipod itself. I use my ipod every day for running. Is there anything I can do or am I going to have to trash an 8 month old Ipad?  I've tried resetting the Ipad and that makes no difference.

    Check the dock connector on the Nano and clean any dirt/debris/dust bunnies you might find. Clean it with a soft brush. While you are doing this get a magnifying glass and look at the pins. If you see rust/corrosion then sweat has damaged the connector.

  • Pink iPod Nano not charging

    My daughter's nano does not charge. It works fine when plugged into a wall outlet, but once removed, the screen goes out. Any advice?

    Visit a service center to have it checked. If still under warranty, request for replacement. Cheers!

  • New iPod nano not charging

    My brand new iPod is not taking a charge. I have run down the initial charge it came with about half way. When I connect it to the computer, or to a car charger, or to a wall outlet with adapter, the charging icon appears. However, even after several hours, the battery icon shows only 1/2 full. I have reset it several times. Is there more I can do, or do I need to send it in for repair?

  • IPod does not charge nor shows up in Windows or iTunes

    I bought a iPod nano 2Gb two days ago. After some trouble shooting I got it to work and was able to get some music on the iPod. After using the iPod yesterday I wanted to recharge the battery.
    Since the computer was still on I reconnected the iPod the same it was connected when I synced it. This time however the iPod was not recognised by Windows or iTunes nor does it recharge.
    So far I've tried:
    - reset the iPod;
    - restart the computer;
    - reboot the USB drivers;
    - re-install iTunes;
    - restart iPod service on computer.
    So far nothing worked. Can anyone help me??

    Yesterday I tried to completly deplete the battery so now the iPod really doesn't do anything since it does not want to charge via the usb.
    Before depleting the battery I tried forcing the iPod in disk-mode and then connect it to the PC. Results, nothing happened when connecting the iPod...
    This evening I'll try the suggestion of adding usbstor.sys and usbsor.inf and restart the pc and see if that works. (link to that suggestion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=785480&tstart=30)
    If that fails I think I'll just return the iPod and see if I can get my money back. It only worked once since I got it three days ago.....
    Still open to suggestions if anyone got some.

  • IPod not charging or being recognized by PC

    Everything worked fine until I plugged in my iPod to add new music through iTunes. iTunes was saying it was encountering an issue and had to close. So I closed it and unplugged the iPod. Now the iPod won't come on. The apple screen comes on and then goes off. I can hear a clicking sound. When I plug it into the PC, it does the same or says "Very Low Battery". The thing is that the battery was fine before all of this. Now it won't charge either by the PC or through the wall. It just lights up with the apple logo for a second and then goes right back off...over and over again.
    Help!

    Have your tried to [*_RESET and/or RESTORE*|http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/fivers/ipod5gen/#] your iPod? If not then please try that. Make sure that you have plugged your iPod into a wall outlet to charge for at least 4 hours in case the battery is low before you try to RESET/RESTORE.
    If the above does not work then I would suspect a failed internal battery.

  • Ipod Shuffle not charging or being detected by computer or Itunes

    My Ipod shuffle is less than three months old, and has suddenly quit working. It is not detected by Itunes or the computer, except when it's first plugged in a red light flashes on the Ipod itself, then turns off. I have tried several cables, and I have tried connecting it to multiple computers and USB ports. I have another Ipod that syncs fine with Itunes, so I know Itunes works. Itunes is also updated to the latest version, and I have checked all of the drivers. The Ipod worked fine one day, and the next day, it would not turn on. It was left on a shelf overnight the night it quit working, and has never been exposed to water as far as I know.

    I think the trouble-shooting you describe has ruled out a bad USB docking cable, and a problem on the USB port.  And since it previously worked with this computer, it's not some incompatibility with software or hardware.  Even if there was a software (OS or iTunes) related problem, the shuffle should still charge when connected.
    So, if it's not software, the docking cable, or the USB port, the cause is probably a problem on the shuffle (such as the logic board or battery).  Since it is less than one-year from purchase date, you should have it checked under warranty.  If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar on the store's web page
    https://www.apple.com/retail/
    and take it there.  Otherwise, you can contact Apple's tech support using the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.

    Here's some more info about the router settings:
    iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    You should be able to get into the setup of your router by typing the IP address into your browser.
    Depending on your router security setup, you might need the MAC address of your iPad, to allow access to your network, if the so called MAC filtering is active.
    You can also check the name of your home network if your click on the AirPort icon on your desktop of your MacBook.

    I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
    It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

    Hi cecebabymusik,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
    Try the specific steps below for the your iPod touch first:
    iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

    If the issue is not resolved, you may need to uninstall iTunes and all of it's components, and reinstall the latest version as explained in this article:

  • 3rd Generation IPOD Nano not recognized

    I have two 3rd generation IPOD nanos that are not being recognized by 4 different windows XP systems. One of them is a 4G unit that my daughter has been using for at least half a year. It is not being recognized when plugged into the USB. The other one is a brand new unit that is also not being recognized. I have installed and uninstalled the iTunes software and have the latest. I have reset the IPODS. I have double checked the USB drivers and such. Rebooted. The whole bit. The 5 R's +.
    On my system at work, they are not recognized either. However, I plugged in somebody else's 2nd generation IPOD nano and it was immediately recognized and happy. So this is clearly some kind of 3rd gen IPOD nano issue and likely some kind of software issue that has recently happened.

    Mate i have had this problem for ages managed to sort it with itunes 7.4 but i have the problem again.
    It is becoming very frustrating to say the least, and no matter what you say on these forums or the amount of times i have emailed apple i dont get any answer.
    I basically have over 100 punds worth of equipment on myy desk which is a waste.
    And no one is helping from apple.

  • IPod Nano not recognized by computer.

    My iPod Nano 2nd generation isn't recognized whatsoever by my computer. A short recap: On a Windows XP driven computer (not mine and on the other side of the Atlantic) I connected and downloaded music. When I returned home, I wanted to connect my iPod to my own Vista driven computer. No can do! My wife has had an iPod Nano 2nd Generation which was previously correctly connected to my computer. To solve my problem(s) I have logged on to my computer with a different user name and installed iTunes with a clean/empty sheet. Still, I haven't been able to connect my iPod. Is there a solution to this? Cheers, Cai
