Ipod Nano not recognized by computer (or itunes) but charging.. so connected
worked until this am (though I think I had this once before, a couple years ago, too often follows itunes updates)
connected to computer (win 7) this morning and it is not recognized by computer (or itunes)
can't find it looking in Explorer
but, it is charging so... it is connected
have tried everything except re-installing itunes... if the computer is not seeing it, and it shows the connection when itunes isn't open...
would that make any difference?
diagnostic shows....

After upgrading to 8.1 in windows, my ipod is not recognized in computer or itunes
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 a while back, and just tried to synch my ipod with itunes and now my ipod is not being recognized in my comuper or itunes. Does anyone know why this is and/or how to fix it?
Thanks!!
AmberHello Amber,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes. I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer or Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
If Windows recognizes your iPod but iTunes does not, follow the steps in this article:
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

IPod Nano not recognized by computer.
My iPod Nano 2nd generation isn't recognized whatsoever by my computer. A short recap: On a Windows XP driven computer (not mine and on the other side of the Atlantic) I connected and downloaded music. When I returned home, I wanted to connect my iPod to my own Vista driven computer. No can do! My wife has had an iPod Nano 2nd Generation which was previously correctly connected to my computer. To solve my problem(s) I have logged on to my computer with a different user name and installed iTunes with a clean/empty sheet. Still, I haven't been able to connect my iPod. Is there a solution to this? Cheers, Cai

Ipod nano not recognized by computer, driver issues
Hello All!
I have an ipod nano, first gen, that works just great. Bought another one off of ebay for my husband for Christmas. It looks identical to the one that works - model numbers & year the same - HOWEVER, it is not recognized by iTunes.
I followed an older thread on this forum and followed the directions to download usbstor.sys & usbstor.inf and move to my i368 folder but I still got the same message - something like "Windows highly recommends not installing these drivers because they have not passed logo testing. This could result in serious damage to your computer."
Does anyone know what is the issue? Can it be solved another way? Why does my other nano work? Does anyone know if it is safe to the install usbstor drivers? Help pleaseIs this any help?
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
There's also this: iTunes 7 or later doesn't recognize the iPod. -

it still charges when i plug it into the computer though. any help would be greatly appreciated, thankshello,
have you tried pressing the menu and center buttons simultaneously? this might help iTunes recognize the iPod.
just a quick note, to get the fastest response and most relevant info related to your 1st Gen. Nano, you can go to the iPod Nano 1st Gen. discussion page.

TS1369 ipod touch not recognized by computer or itunes
My iPod Touch is not recognized by my computer or itunes. I believe this happened after the recent upgrade for latest fixes.
See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would start with:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Also, if you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar -

Ipod Shuffle not recognized by computer and iTunes and does not charge
I connected my iPod to my computer but for some reason, it is not recognized at all by the computer nor iTunes. It doesn't charge either. I have tried all the USB ports and since I have Windows Vista, I cannot use the Restore Utility thingy. I purchased my iPod about 2 years ago so a warranty replacement is out of the question. Since any choices have been kicked off, can anyone find a solution to my problem? TYVM pl0x
Time to replace it: $49 2nd Gen shuffle at online Apple Store...

IPod not recognized by Computer or iTunes (but it used to be)
Okay, I have an iPod, I had problems, and I fixed them, but what's making me mad is that my grandpa got one, and he's having the exact same problems and they can't be fixed in the same way. So here's what's happening:
iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod,
it doesn't appear at all in "My Computer,"
but when you go to "Safely Remove Hardware" it comes up there.
Tried resetting the iPod; restarting the computer, iPod plugged in, iPod unplugged; downloaded iTunes version 7; did a million things I found in the forums; there's nothing wrong with my OS or USB ports (yes they're 2.0), so what do I do now?I'm having the same problem...iPod doesn't appear in iTunes and it isn't recognized by PC.Tried all 5 problem solvers with no luck. My iPod shows a sad face. It somehow went into an accessories test and went thru a bunch of downloads and option all on it's own?? Then it said - No USB cable detedted......then another bunch of accessories which appeared to fine.....then- Please plug FW, LCD ID:2, FWPWR:0
Does anyone a a clue what this is all about and why it won't appear in iTunes????
