Ipod nano not working on my computer

I have the new 6th gen nano, 8gb, and it wont work on my pc. i get the "itunes has detected an ipod but it cant be identified" error. im not sure thats exactly what it says, but im sure you know what I mean. i tried reinstalling itunes, uninstalling the ipod in device manager an letting windows reinstall. only thing i havent is uninstall everything apple/ipod related, and reinstall, such as bonjour, ipod updater, apple device helper, etc. seems liek a long process.

Few suggestions:
- Connect it directly to your computers USB port, not through a hub.
- Disconnect all other USB items aside from your mouse and keyboard
- If the above does not work, create a new user account on your computer. Restart in that account and connect and see if it works. If it does work, you know you have something installed under the other account that is getting in the way
- If none of that works, do the FULL uninstall/reinstall thing. Here is a link to walk you through it:

  • 4th generation ipod nano not working

All of the sudden my 4th generation, 8GB ipod nano isn't working. I had a 2004 G4 aluminum Powerbook that started to go so I bought a refurbished Macbook Pro a couple weeks ago. On my Powerbook, the screen all of the sudden went dark. I researched what might be the cause and found it to possibly be the inverter board. I bought the part and installed it to no avail. Which probably means it's the mother board... which is why I bought the new Macbook. Before the screen went dark, my left USB port and audio in was having problems (probably the mother board dying). I would always charge my ipod from that left USB port. Could this be why now it's acting up and not even recognizing it on my old Powerbook and new Macbook? When I plug it into either computer, the apple start up screen shows, then it shows the "Low Battery" screen, then it briefly shows my playlist, movies, etc. screen... and then goes back to the apple start up screen, and filters through this process as I keep it plugged in. I'm assuming the worst but hopefully there's a solution and I won't have to now buy a new ipod   Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

Anyone ever had this problem before?

  • IPod Nano Not Recognized by any Computer

Hi. I found an iPod Nano about a month ago. And I plugged it in to my computer and nothing, the only thing it does is it Starts to charge for about 5 seconds...then immediately stops...What I don't understand is that my iPod Shuffle works perfectly, I plug it in, then iTunes pops up. But I have tried this iPod Nano on about 5 different computers, with iTunes and nothing. I have a Windows Vista, with iTunes ver. 8.0.1 the newest. Can anyone help please?

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • Ipod Nano not showing in my computer or iTunes - have done everything?

I am running Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Inspiron 8500. I have done and checked everything including running Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and reinstalling iTunes 8; resetting ipod which works fine; checking IEEE 1394 card. One thing that doesn't show is in Device Manager/UBS Controllers it doesn't show it connected not even as a mass storage device. I have worked on this stupid thing all day and now it's 11:30 pm and still not working. It seems like there are a lot of people with the same problem. Someone please help. I don't know what to do next.
I also have a ipod shuffle and it doesn't see it either; however, it does see it and work under Windows Media Player, but the Nano doesn't work there either.
    HELP PLEASE

To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector)
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.
When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

  • New Ipod Nano not being recognized by Computer

It seems I am not the only one having this annoying issue. My new Ipod Nano (3rd Generation) will not show up at all in Itunes. I never get the setup assistant to show up either. I have tried different USB ports, shutting down and restarting the computer, reloading itunes, etc. What's next? I am new to the whole ipod thing so if I need to do something I don't know about, please let me know.

    Hi
You're right, you're not the only person having this problem. If you don't mind though, could you just stick to bumping the other thread? I'll get you the link, one second.

  • New Ipod nano not working with my Windows 2000

I have just bought an ipod nano 8GB, and tried to install it. The latest itunes I can put on my computer is 7.3.2 as it is a Windows 2000 not an XP. Unfortunately the nano is saying it needs 7.4 and above. can anyone help please?

I wish you would have asked or checked on the tech specifications for the Nano prior to purchase. These are the required tech specs, copied directly from the Nano page. I'm sorry there's nothing you can do.

  • 6th Generation iPod Nano Not Working

So I purchased a 6th iPod nano just last month and had it sent to me via mail. I took it out of the packaging and had turned it on and charged it and it seemed to work so I threw away the packaging and receipt.
However, I just tried putting music on it yesterday, and it will not work. I bought all of the music from iTunes and its in my library and the music works fine there, but then when I unplug my iPod, half of the time it says that I haven't synced it and there's no music on it, and the other half of the time the music is there, but the cover art is contorted and it will play one or two seconds of the song and then skip to the next.
I tried messing with it for an hour and a half and its still doing this. Is there anything I can do in this situation? I'm extremely displeased and I need my iPod for a lengthy plane ride I'm going on.

    Hi aseda26,
Are you using the latest version of iTunes? Have you tried resetting your iPod to factory settings? You can find directions to do this at the link below. This usually helps clear up any software bugs you might be having.

If it still isn't working and you purchased it less than 30 days ago, I would encourage you to bring it back to your local Best Buy store so we can try to troubleshoot and exchange it for you if necessary.

  • Ipod Nano not recognized on my computer

My iPod Nano doesn't show up on My Computer or in the ITunes store under devices.
A popup recommends reconnecting the device but it does not help.  It then says to uninstall and reinstall Itunes.
This device used to be recognized on a different pc but we changed out pcs.  Is a Nano only supposed to be recognized on only one Pc?

Try one or more of the following
    > Restart your computer
    > Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes - Windows XP | Windows Vista or 7 | Mac OS X
    > Reset iPod (will not delete everything)
    > Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if iDevice shows
    > Restore iPod (will delete everything)
    > Make sure iTunes and/or iOS firmware is up to date
    Extra Links:

  • Ipod nano Not detected in my computer or itunes

Okay, first off, I have tried several different things to correct this issue, and NOTHING has become remotely helpful.
My computer doesn't even make the little "ding" sound that I get with all my other usb devices upon plug in. The ipod will be charging and nothing else, nothing in device manager, my computer, itunes and wherever else it is at. The Ipod was given to my by a friend who moved away a few weeks ago, and I finally got the charger yesterday. The ipod can play songs and what-have-you but will not connect to the computer in anyway but to charge. Resetting does NOT work, I repeat, it does NOT work.
I cannot restore it as it doesn't even get detected by anything on the computer. The cord is NEW so it is not that, all the usb ports WORK so it couldn't be that, and it is not my computer as I tried on a laptop and another desktop. I refuse to send it in for repairs as I do not wish to spend money on something I haven't even got to use, and would be extremely upset to get it sent back saying it's faulty. :/
Oh and itunes is the latest version.
READ THE WHOLE THING BEFORE OFFERING HELP.
I will not read anything mentioning resetting, ports, computers, cable and all the stuff I have ALREADY tried.

How can I give a detailed description of everything
Well, you wrote you would not read any posts if you have already tried something so anyone responding would need to know exactly what you have tried.
Have you restarted the *iPod Service*?
    "1- Quit iTunes.
2 - Right click on My Computer/Computer and click Manage. If Windows requires your permission to continue, click Continue.
3 - Click the plus symbol to the left of Services and Applications.
4 - Select Services listed under Services and Applications.
5 - Double click iPod Service in the right hand panel.
6 - Click the Stop button under the General tab and leave the iPod Service Properties window open.
7 - Connect your iPod and wait until it is visible in My Computer/Computer.
8 - Click the Start button in the iPod Service Properties window.
    9 - Open iTunes."
Check your registry keys -> A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB thumb drive, an Apple iPod, or an external hard disk drive
The ipod is obviously on a working cable if it can charge form the usb.
    Not necessarily.
A USB cable has 4 pins, 2 for power and 2 for communications/data transfer.
Don't even need the 2 comm lines for it to charge.
they will force me to pay too much for a new one.
They won't "force" you to do anything.

  • Ipod nano not being seen by computer, windows, 2000...

after over a week on the phone and attemting to get my computer to "see" my nano, and not being able to do so. and after going thru every trouble shooting guide given to me by apple i did get my nano to work.
I used every usb port but two, the two off the mother board, when i used one of them the nano took off and worked liked it was susposed to do, so...... you people who have this problem or know others pass the word use the mother board usb ports. nothing else.......

i resolved my computer, windows 2000, not seeing by i pod nano, by using the usb ports from the mother board. use no other usb ports, not usb hubs, or other circurt ports, just mother ports..................
