Ipod nano now showing up in iTunes...Restore help?

My iPod nano isn't showing up in itunes...but i need to restore it, because it's formatted for a windows system, and i need it to work with my new mac. I've read the instructions on how to restore, but i cant even do that since my ipod wont show up in itunes in the first place. what happened to that programm you could download to restore an ipod? does anyone know what i can do??? thanks in advance!

Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then connect it to your computer to restore it through iTunes. Is it recognized now?
Also, be sure to try all the suggestions here:

I hope that helps you.

I tried the troubleshooting techniques on the apple ipod suppport page for this problem and they didnt work. When I plug in my 4 GB Mini ipod, it shows up on Itunes so Its not a problem with itunes or the cable.

  • My fifth generation ipod nano wont show up on itunes... please help!

I've had my fifth generation ipod nano for about five months now. Nothing has gone wrong with it. the ipod would show up on itunes with no problem. But today i plugged it in to my computer, itunes popped up as usual, but then another pop up came:an ipod has been detected but could not be itentified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again.
I unplugged and plugged my ipod several times, but nothing was fixed. I even changed the cable and did the same, but still, nothing happened. I tried resetting my ipod and then plugging it in, but nothing was fixed. then i put the ipod on disk mode and THEN tried to see if it would show up, but it still wasnt fixed.

  • Ipod nano not showing up in ITunes 9.2.1.5 on Windows XP

My mom has a 4GB 1st generation nano and I've been trying to add new songs via iTunes. I have tried all the suggestions for "iPod appears in Windows but not iTunes" article and I still cannot get her ipod to show up in iTunes. The computer I'm trying to get the ipod to work on is a desktop computer running Windows XP. I tried my mom's ipod on my laptop computer thinking maybe it was a problem with the ipod or the cable. It worked just fine. I have Windows 7 running an identical version of iTunes. I'm a grad student and I'm just home for the summer. I need solve this problem and fix my mom's ipod so it will work on her own computer while I'm away. Is there anything else I can do to get her iPod to show up in iTunes?

have you tried to reset the ipod?

My ipod nano has been working fine for at least three years.  All of a sudden I get two messages.  First, "there is a problem with this drive, scan and fix it".
And, an Ipod has been detected but can't be identified properly.  It's a 6th generation nano and I have Windows 8.  Any thoughts?

  • Ipod is not showing up in itunes! HELP!

No matter what I do the ipod up in computer as a camera and doesn't show up in itunes. WHAT DO I DO??? It has been a few weeks of hopeless internet searching and frustration. I also have a PC. Thanks.

This was happening to me, too. It started when I upgraded to iOS 6.
My iPod Nano still worked when hooked up to my PC with Windows 7 and iTunes 10.7.0.21. I hooked the USB cable up to another USB port on my PC and after ten seconds or so, iTunes was able to detect an iPod in recovery mode. I allowed it to restore the iPod and now it's working again.
It's a baffling solution, because the other iPod was working just fine hooked up to the other USB port.
After restoring the iPod and restoring my backup, I tried hooking the USB cable back up to the other USB port. It still works, even on the port where it had problems earlier. Go figure.
After all this, my iPod touch 4th generation is running iOS 6 successfully.

  • VERY unstable iPod Nano (crashes every time in iTunes) plz help!

    Hi Folks,
As I wrote earlier in this thread, the iPod nano I bought for my GF (and the one before that) suffered from the 'updater bug'. At least I know now how to revive it, thanks to the great tips of a few users here, but it's a nuisance that the nano(s) tend to crash every time I want to add some music to it via iTunes. Not to say it's absurd for a mp3 player in this category to have so many bugs apparently.
I looked up the computer's system log, and it appears it registers a 'disk' warning, logged as 'event 51' every time the iPod is connected to my notebook. If it's not connected, it never gives such a warning. When you click on the warning it states: "fault discovered on appliance \Device\Harddisk1\D during a file exchange operation". [NB: my OS is in Dutch, so I translated it as best I could, it may not be the exact text it'd be in English.]
What usually happens is that the iPod 'freezes' at the moment I manually add songs to it. Subsequently I get the familiar "use iTunes to reset your iPod" message on the nano's screen, and I have to go through the whole formatting/reset procedure again, as described in the other thread I mentioned above. I had some succes adding music with the 'auto sinc' option, but nevertheless, it crashed again when I wanted to update the music on the nano, still using the 'auto sinc'.
So every which way I want to add music, the iPod crashes! Only after a full format/restore operation it sometimes accepts music, but as soon as I want to add/update the music on the iPod nano again it crashes...
As said, this behaviour is very annoying as well as time consuming, and I'm on the verge of returning the iPod to ask my money back. But as it's a gift, I'd rather see it working like it's supposed to work.
Many thanks in advance for your help, it'd be most welcome!
    Some facts and figures:
    - The nano is updated to V 1.2 using updater 2006-06-28 -
    - iTunes is updated to V 6.5 -
    - I use a Travelmate 800 notebook with Win XP Pro [fully updated except SP2]
    - I did try connecting the nano to different USB ports (3) with no notable difference.

  • Ipod Nano does not appear in Itunes source

    Hi all
I have an Ipod Nano and an Ibook, however when i plug my Nano into my Ibook it will not appear in the source menu in Itunes, but the nano does appear on my desktop. I am using Itunes Version 1.1.2, do i need to up grade my Itunes before it will recognise my Nano? If so which version of Itunes will i be able to install onto an Ibook g3 500mhzx running on OSX 10.1.5?

Your version of Mac OS X is too old to use an iPod nano as anything other than an external flash drive; the compatible iPods with your configuration are the first through fourth generation full-size models and the original iPod mini. You need at least Mac OS X 10.3 before an iPod nano will show up in iTunes.
All compatible iPods must be connected through FireWire for use with iTunes in Mac OS X 10.15 regardless of the presence of USB connectivity on the iPod. iPods which require an USB connection are not compatible with your version of Mac OS X.

  • Ipod nano does not sync with itunes library, ipod nano does not sync with itunes library

bought an ipod nano, upgraded Itunes to version 11 running on Windows 8.
My nano is set  up with a different apple ID than my main account, but it won't sync with my Itunes Library, When I plug it in via USB, the IPOD nano icon shows up in Itunes, but when I do File>Devices>Sync,  the Snyc is grayed out.
does the differenct apple ID on the nano have anything to do with the fact that it is different from my Itunes Apple ID, is that causing a problem? Most of the music in my library is uploads from CDs I had already owned, not Itunes purchases.
    Solutions?

Automatic syncing is set up on the iPod's Music tab in iTunes, which is where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.
To use automatic syncing, the checkbox for Sync Music is checked.  Below that, you can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits on iPod.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
With the latter choice, you can create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod by selecting (checkmarking) playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres on the Music tab.  For example (if you want to keep it simple), you can create a new playlist in iTunes and add all songs you want on the iPod to that playlist.  Back on the Music tab, checkmark that playlist.  There are many ways to set it up...
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs syncs to the iPod (replacing its existing content). Going forward, any changes in the iTunes Music library that are related to your selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod when you connect it, or when you click Sync.
Therefore, if you create that playlist with songs you want on the iPod, and select it on the iPod's Music tab, you can simply update that playlist in iTunes (add and remove songs) whenever you want, and those changes sync to the iPod automatically at the next opportunity.
