IPod Nano only holds 75 songs

My iPod Nano will only hold 75 songs. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? It also skips songs that I've downloaded from iTunes.

Kind: Protected AAC audio file
Sizes range from 2.8 - 4.4
Bitrate is all 128 kbps
Thanks.
Play one or more in iTunes and you'll get a chance to "authorize".
About the 75 on your nano, do the same File>Get info>Summary on several of them.
Otherwise just restore your nano and that should give you the space back... however if the songs are AIFF or WAV that may be reason for it only holds 75. Those encodings take LOTS of space.

  • 4 gb IPOD Nano only holding 3.79 Gb 870 Songs?

    Good Day All,
I have just gotten a 4 gb IPOD Nano, and am trying to load my songs and it shows 870 songs on 3.79 Gb but not enough room to store all my songs? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Brook

It is about right and normal
In iPod's About menu, the hard disk size is reported as slightly less than the technical specifications for the iPod. The same is true if you connect iPod to your computer in disk mode look at the info or properties window for the disk.
Why the difference? Most hard disk manufacturers measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 million bytes (1000 * 1000). A 4 GB disk, therefore, is one that holds 4 billion bytes. Computers, including Windows computers, Macintosh computers and iPod, measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 048 576 bytes (1024 * 1024). The difference in these two calculations is what causes the drive to appear as 3.7 GB on a computer, but actually be a 4 billion byte disk.

  • IPod nano only holds 22 songs

New user - I put some songs I already had on my computer on the nano - it only held 22 songs - I know it is due to the format AIF - can I now convert to AAC or MP3? How? I transferred to iBook G4 with iTunes - tho't it converted to AAC by default - I need more than 22 songs on the nano. Do I have to redo from CD? Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes, you will need to convert your music to AAc or MP3 (both are compatible on an iPod).
See these two links about your kind of situation, and see if they help:

My song files are too big for my small iPod
Or, it could be an issue that you iPod has "fake" spaced that isn't truly used. Try restoring your iPod through the iPod Updater (go ahead and try this first):

  • Ipod nano only working in hold position

recently my friends ipod nano only turns on when it is in the hold position but will not turn on when it's not on hold. It is also only recognized in itunes when it is in hold position. it's basically something I just store music on right now. Is there a way for me to fix this?

I don't know if this'll work, but it's worth a shot. Try putting it hold, than taking it off of hold, without TOUCHING ANY PART OF THE CLICK WHEEL. This might work. If it doesn't, click "restore" when it is plugged in to your computer.

  • About how many songs will the new iPod Nano 16GB hold?

About how many songs will the new iPod Nano 16GB hold?

That depends on a number of variables including how long the songs are and the quality of the format.
A 4 minute song downloaded from iTunes (256k format) is 8MB. That would give you about 1,625 songs if you had nothing else on the Nano.

  • 512 MB ipod will only hold 487 MB of songs/data

My 512 MB ipod will only hold 487 MB of songs/data, even when everything has been deleted off of it, and it has been restored. is there any way i can get rid of this extra "other" info on my ipod to use all 512 MB for songs? thanks

i think that woul be removing the ipod software and the file structure which allows the ipod to function. ex, i just bought a 300GB hard drive for my pc, when i get properties on this drive it reads as a 279GB hard drive (maybe its the partition table, ntfs stuff etc.)

  • I have a 2GB IPOD with only 385 songs on it.  I downloaded 2 CD's to iTunes but when I try and sync the IPOD I'm getting an error message indicating there isn't enough space.  I thought a 2GB would hold at least 500 songs.

I have a 2GB IPOD with only 385 songs on it.  I downloaded 2 CD's to iTunes and when I try and sync the IPOD I'm getting an error message that says I don't have enough free space.  I thought a 2GB IPOD held at least 500 songs.  I've even deleted songs from from iTunes library.

The figures that Apple used to use when saying how many songs coud fit onto any particular iPod were based on a 4 minute song at a Bit Rate of 128Kbps and that's the bit rate that songs sold by iTunes used to be in. However, now the iTunes Store sells songs at 256Kbps (as do many other MP3 stores) - which means that each song now uses twice as much storage space than before.
So if your songs have a bit rate of higher than 128Kbps, and/or they are all longer than four minutes each, that's why 385 songs is filling up your iPod. You can check how much space is being used when the iPod is connected to iTunes Library. Look on the Device panes for the capacity bar at the bottom of the window. How much space is being used by Music?
    The solution is either:
Use iTunes to make 128Kbps versions to go onto your iPod - or,
Sync the iPod using Playlists and then choosing which Playlists you want on it. Smart Playlists may be the answer - you can set Smart Playlists up so that they automatically add and remove songs from your iPod, so that there is a constant change of songs (according to the rules you set)

  • Hi there, I pay for extra iCloud space online. However I cannot seem to find any of my photos or account? As my iPod/iPhone only hold 1000 pictures, where are the previous pictures? And how can I access them?

You cannot use iCloud Storage to suppliment your iPad. They are mainly used to backup iPad.
    Free up space on iPad
Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Delete what is not needed to free up space on iPad.

Either redownload them directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
or sync them to your iPod via iTunes

Try to hook up your nano to your computer and choose the dialog box to update your software.  The current version is 1.2 which allows distance to be calculated once you input your height (and weight).

Strange, but if it's under a yr. old, you should still have a warranty on it, and Apple can replace it for you.
