IPod Nano playlist cannot be edited

I have an iPod Nano 6th generation. My computer recognizes and says it syncs but it does not.
I have 2 playlists and when I click on them, they are grayed out. I can't play them from my computer and I cannot edit the playlist.
The music plays fine on the Nano itself. Why are the libraries grayed out and how do I fix it?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Because you are auto syncing your Nano. If you switch to manually managing your music those will be accessible.

  • Shuffle Playing iPod Nano Playlist

I was wondering if it was possible to play iPod Nano playlists in a "shuffle" mode. I can successfully play my entire music archive that is on the iPod in "shuffle" mode, but I would like to be able to just play a certain playlist in "shuffle" mode. Thanks for any information on this question.

    Yes it can be done.
Menu, Settings, Shuffle - Off, Songs, Albums
Then go back and select your playlist and start it going.

  • Ipod nano says cannot update playlists due to lack of available space

Recently after I left my ipod nano charging overnight mysteriously all the songs were removed from it (not on my computer - just the ipod unit). Whenever I try to "Update Administrator iPod" it comes up with the message that it doesn't have enough space. This is despite un-checking all playlists to absolute minimum. Now at the stage that even if no playlists are checked > 95% of disk-space is taken.
A message does pop up at the bottom RHS of my screen that a "file is corrupt and unreadable - iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB" and suggests I run CHKDSK Utility. I don't know much about chkdsk but did go to the "START" button on my computer and in the "RUN" section typed in "CHKDSK c: /f". It did go through a routine (after I did a computer reboot) - but problem is still there.
Have you any advice for me?

Beautiful. Just did a "restore" as suggested and now works fine!

  • Ipod nano playlists are strange

Hi. I have an ipod nano - not sure which generation - it is silver with a touch screen - tiny approx 3.5 cm square.
Suddenly some of the playlist songs I have had on my ipod are missing. Most of the playlists have reduced themselves by 1/2 - 1/3...in other words if the playlist on my computer has 25 songs, there might be 5 on there - there could be 8 - it is random which songs are there and which are not - there is no pattern I can see. I use these playlists as I'm a Les Mills Instructor. It is very frustrating.
I also have difficulty in the new version interface - I manually synche my playlists. Prior to the new version, you could tick the playlists you wanted to download to the ipod from the summary tab - I cannot see where or if this option is available anymore... Please Help Me!!!!!!

    Hello garratt,
How do you have your iPod set up to sync with your iTunes library? What options to you have selected from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs for your iPod in iTunes? Knowing this information could potentially help us narrow down the problem.

  • I bought a new iPod nano and cannot get the music synced

I just purchased a new Ipod nano and registered it and upgraded the software. I cannot get the music library to sync.  My music is in the cloud.

  • Complicated question: iPod nano/playlists from cloud

A little hard to explain but here goes...
I have an old iPod nano without internet capability.  If I get iTunes Match, I can pop in a CD & upload the tracks to my iMac.  They will then be available in the cloud.  I assume I can then delete the track from my iMac & still have access to it in the cloud for streaming.  Right?
Assuming that's right, if I have a playlist that I sync with my iPod, will it still work with tracks that I have in the cloud, but not physically on my computer.
Here's how I think it works:
I make a playlist from songs in the cloud synced with my iPod.
    I connect the iPod.
iTunes will DL the songs onto my computer in order to transfer them to my iPod.
    I disconnect the iPod.
I delete the tracks from my Computer.  (They're still in the cloud.)
The next time I connect & sync my iPod, will it lose the tracks that are in the cloud but not on my computer?  Will it re-DL them?
My goal is to have a large library to choose from for my iPod without keeping all those tracks physically on my iMac.

    Hi
I suggest that you read this Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
The music needs to be on your hard drive to sync with the iPod nano. If you delete tracks from your hard drive, they will be removed fron the nano next time you sync.
Why do you need to stream music on your imac? Do you need to free up hard drive space?

  • Transferred audiobook to iPod Nano, but cannot locate it

I've transferred many audiobooks to my iPod nano over the years.  I just transferred an audiobook (twice) to my iPod nano, but I cannot locate it anywhere.  It is not under Audiobooks nor under Music, which is where I can usually find them.  I know that it transferred to my nano, because I saw the available space decrease each time I tried to transfer it.  I have a 4th/5th generation iPod nano.

  • New iPod Nano G3, Cannot Connect to Win2K any work arounds?

I just purchaed a replacement iPod Nano )G3) and identified that it is only compatible with Win XP or Vista. Is there a work-around download available on the internet to work with Win 2K?

Be advised you will not be able to Restore or Update your Nano using Winamp, or buy or rent anything from the iTunes Store. Your best bet would be to update your OS.

  • IPod nano help - "cannot read contents of..."

    Hi,
I have a new iPod Nano and it currently has no songs on it. Whenever I plug it in, this message comes up on iTunes: "Cannot read contents of the iPod "DON". Use the iPod Updater to restore the iPod to factory settings."
I have two iPods, one is my new nano and one is a regular iPod. My regular iPod works fine on iTunes, but I just can't seem to get my iPod Nano to be recognized by iTunes. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I actually tried via sharepod, and iexplorer, but it still had the error telling me theres no data on the device the ipod on its own functions normally and still has all it's data on it. the only last thing i could come up with is redownload all my songs its taken me a long time but i hope restoring it will solve my problem!

My iPod nano 3rd generation cannot be synced any more for some reason. And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try reformatting the iPod using *Disk Utility*. For instructions on how to do this, see this Apple Support document.

  • HT4059 I have a 7th Generation iPod Nano and cannot get audiobooks to sync with it. The manual says this is a valid feature but I can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

I am trying to sync an audiobook from iTunes to a 7th Generation iPod Nano. The manual says audiobooks can be synced to this device by going to iTunes, selecting the Book button and selecting sync audiobooks but when I select the Book button I do not see any syncing options to select.  What am I doing wrong?

  • My Ipod Nano 3G cannot charge

I got this new Ipod Nano 3G from a friend who got it a long time ago. I plugged it in straight into the wall charger i had for my Iphone. The battery bar then appeared to be full and had the "plug" symbol instead of the lightning bolt. When i plugged it out, the screen just blanked out and i could not switch the ipod on. I tried plugging it into my computer and the same problem popped up. The bar always shows that the battery is fullly charged but blanks out when i plug it out. It is really frustrating. It even blanked out even when i left it plugged in for 3 hours. Appparently the battery did not charge at all. Did i make a mistake when i plugged the new ipod into the wall charger instead of a computer?
Can somebody help me solve this problem? I can't even use the new ipod at all which is pretty saddening.

    Hello musicfireworks,
I would be concerned with this as well.  Following the Five Rs for iPod nano (3rd generation) might help with this. You can find the steps at the following link:

I hope this gets your new iPod nano working!
