Ipod nano says cannot update playlists due to lack of available space

Recently after I left my ipod nano charging overnight mysteriously all the songs were removed from it (not on my computer - just the ipod unit). Whenever I try to "Update Administrator iPod" it comes up with the message that it doesn't have enough space. This is despite un-checking all playlists to absolute minimum. Now at the stage that even if no playlists are checked > 95% of disk-space is taken.
A message does pop up at the bottom RHS of my screen that a "file is corrupt and unreadable - iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB" and suggests I run CHKDSK Utility. I don't know much about chkdsk but did go to the "START" button on my computer and in the "RUN" section typed in "CHKDSK c: /f". It did go through a routine (after I did a computer reboot) - but problem is still there.
Have you any advice for me?

Beautiful. Just did a "restore" as suggested and now works fine!

  • IPOD error "saving cannot be performed due to lack of space on your device"

I accidentally synched my iPOD touch when I didn't intend to and now when I am trying to save progress inside an App I get the message 'Saving cannot be performed due to a lack of space on your device'.  I only have about 150 songs on it and there are NO photos or videos left on the device.  I have also deleted any unused Apps but still can't get past this message.  Any ideas?

That reference is useful. After resetting my iPod and getting the same result, I finally realized that the problem isn't permissions on the iTunes folder, but on the iPhoto Library. Once I adjusted those, it synced fine. Thanks for your help.

  • Macbook cannot install OS X update due to lack of available space on drive

My wife tried to install an update to OS X for a game.  Now her computer is stuck at the install screen.  When we try to select the Macintosh HD, there doesn't seem to be enough room to install the update.  Never backed up HD with time machine or anything like that.  Here are the options that I now have:
    a. To repair your disk using Disk Utility, restore your computer from a Time Machine backup, or perform other tasks using utilities, choose an option from the Utilities menu.
    b. Continue the setup of the installation of OS X- however, there is not enough room on the HD to perform this.
That is where the computer is stuck at...help!

Sorry for the late reply.  I have not looked at the MacBook forum for a while.
Try rebooting in Safe Mode.  That will clean out some files as it boots and may give you just enough space to boot.

    Empty the trash.
Immediately delete some files to gain disk space.
    Empty the trash.

If it will not boot in Safe Mode, post back for more instructions on how to get it booted.
There are more options.  You can get there from here.

  • HT1363 My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.

My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  Windows has all the most recent updates too.  I can reset the iPod, but the message to Use iTunes to restore comes back and I am stuck.

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
    Please help

  • Ipod nano and itunes update not working

I bought a new ipod nano, says I need to update version of itunes, each time I do, it restarts my computer but nothing has updated??

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

    Hello dawn2020,
I would suggest this article named Can't connect to the iTunes Store found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368.
Troubleshooting on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking on Check for Update in your device's Summary page in iTunes.
Check and verify that you are in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you are on a 3G capable device, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to 3G, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Check to make sure you have an active internet connection. You can check the User Guide for your device for help with connecting to the internet.
Check to make sure other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router
If the issue persists, see troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections.
Note: All iPhone, and iPod touch models support 802.11b/g Wi-Fi networks. In addition, iPhone 4, and iPod touch (4th generation) support 802.11n Wi-Fi networks (2.4 GHz only).
And if needed there is a more advance troubleshooting article named

  • Ipod Nano says I am "Over Capacity" but is not storing any music

Ipod Nano says I am "Over Capacity" but is not storing any music. Do you know why i can't get any music on it? I have uninstalled and re-installed itunes as well.

Look at the colored graph under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes showing you the types of content and how much space it is consuming on the iPod. What seems to be taking up all of the iPod's available space?

Are you trying to restore via itunes or icloud? Which ever one you're doing, try the other.
Its most important to make sure itunes is updated, any security software is disabled, and to try another usb port/cord (if using itunes on a computer)

My Ipod nano says its locked and screens on and it's staying frozen.  I have tried pressing the menu and select button simultaneously and still not reset.  What should I do?

Right click on the iPod Nano icon.  "Eject" should pop up.  At least that is the way it works on Macs.

My iPod Nano says "4GB" on the back. Which dock adapter do I order, or do I need a "generation" label?

Thanks, deggie. It's actually my daughter's; she wants to play it through a docking speaker (JBL), and threw away the adapter-pak that came with it. I'll get the model # and post later.

  • HT201210 what is the 'other' section of storage on my iPhone?  I can't update iOS7 due to lack of storage!!  And I have deleted almost everything.

I can't update iOS7 due to lack of space for the upgrade.  I have hardly any songs, apps and pictures yet there is this 'other' storage which is over 4GB.  What is it and how can I reduce it?

Thanks, I ended up just going to Apple and returning it and upgrading to a 16GB Iphone and just paying the price diffence. They had no problem doing that. So, for $100 plus 10% restocking, I got a brand new, double the capacity, Iphone.
