IPod nano scroll wheel doesn't scroll

I just got a nano, fresh from the packaging, for Christmas. It was purchased 9/1/06.
The buttons seem to work, but the "click wheel" doesn't work. It's impossible to scroll up or down by rolling my thumb along the circle.

  • IPod nano 1st generation doesn't appear in iTunes vers. 9.02 - HELP

Since I upgraded my iTunes to the latest version 9.02, my iPod nano (1st generation) doesn't appear and I cannot synchronize it. Tried to change USB port, no result. Tried to uninstall iTunes and install earlier version 8.2 for Windows XP, but it won't open, saying that "the iTunes Library.itl cannot be read as it was created in a more recent iTunes version". What am I to do if I want to keep using my old nano?

I am having a similar problem. Dusted off my daughters old nano to take to the beach. Tried setting it up on the old lap top I am taking with me and I could not get it working. After hours of diagnostics and troubleshooting matrixs it seems that I did not have drivers. Apple's troubleshooting says go to microsoft, MS's says go to apple for the drivers. Shows up as a faulted device. Did the updates to the USB drivers, etc. Put the player in disk mode (still would not recognize) My laptop says yes I have an I pod but it cant find the drivers to install it My other old laptop running old I Tune software seems to have no problem. I thought it was my problem I was wasting a
Sunday on, now I am thinking that this is a problem with this latest version of I tunes.

  • Ipod nano click wheel not responding

Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • IPod nano click wheel not working

I have a 1st generation iPod nano. My click/scroll wheel is not working. I origianally thought that my iPod was frozen, but I'm almost positive now that it is the click wheel. I have restarted it several times by holding down the menu and circle button. Also, I was able to sync it using my iTunes, so I'm pretty sure it's the click wheel. Is there any way to fix this? Any help is apreciated!

Not a harddrive problem, there isn't one in the Nano, a hardware problem.
If you are the DIY type you can go to http://www.ifixit.com and there are pictures to show you how to disassemble your iPod so you can see if it is a loose connection.
If you'd rather not take it apart yourself there are 3rd party sites, such as http://www.iresq.com and http://www.ipodmods.com as well as ifixit that work on iPods. You can use Google to find more.
I am assuming your iPod is out of warranty.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen doesn't appear anymore in iTunes since firmware update.

My IPod nano was upgraded to the firmware update to 1.2.
I've lost all my music on it during the firmware upgrade (not sure this is normal).
I can't see it anymore in ITunes.  I got some windows blue screen when trying to solve the problem.
I've tried to uninstall-reinstall all Apple products on my windows 7 (following the apple support, with bonjour, quicktime, ...).
I've also tried to connect it on 2 other fresh windows machines, but it doesn't appear either ...
I've tried with other software but impossible to use because the first libray must be created with iTunes.
The iPod seems normal and the screen is reactive ... but I can't use it without any music on it.
I've reset my ipod with no luck. Tried in disk mode also, .... what can I do more ?
I cannot restore it because it's not visible in iTunes.
Many thanks for your help !

  • IPod nano 6th generation doesn´t work

I´ve got a new iPod nano 6th as an exchange unit. It works fine till i connected it with iTunes under Win7. First, the iPod appears in iTunes and a window was opened, i think, to accept the license rules. Unfortunetly i was distracted for about 5 minutes. By next gaze to iTunes, the iPod was disappeared, the license window was disappeared and the iPod was black. Unfortunetly i have tried to reset the iPod without disconnecting. Nothing happens. I disconnected  the iPod, and it doesn´t works no longer. A reset between 8-15 seconds doesn´t help. An attempt to come into maintenance mode was failure. A new installation with complete delete before of all apple files couldn´t help. A deactivating of virus scan didn´t help. Other usb-cables, other PC´s even a mac didn´t help. A delete of the recovery.ipsw doesn´t help. The iPod doesn´t appear neither under windows or in iTunes. The strange thing is, by connecting with the pc, opening iTunes and an attempt to reset by 8 seconds, nothing happens. By connecting  and an attempt to reset by 15 seconds, iTunes recognized the iPod, is waiting for the iPod about 30 seconds and reports, iPod recognized but not really identificated. Error 1601. If i try the reset by about 15 seconds without opened iTunes, then appears an apple mobile device under usb in devicemanager, but anyhow, no access. I´ve read, an older mobile device driver could help. I´ve extracted this driver out of iTunes version 10.5.2, deinstalled the newest driver and installed the older. It hasn´t helped. I could cry. By the way, my old iPod 2. gen works fine. I would by happy, could i get a solution. thanks a lot.

the nano screen comes up with a message 'do not disconnect'.
Do not reset your iPod if…
If your iPod is connected to a computer and displays any of the  following messages, you should eject the iPod from  within iTunes instead of resetting it:
    Connected. Eject before disconnecting
    Sync in Progress. Please wait…
    Do not disconnect

    Try the below steps :
If you can see your iPod in windows explorer on your My Computer the Right click on your iPod and Format it in Fat32 Format once it is formatted completely remove it from your computer and then reconnect it and open iTunes on your computer and Restore it using iTunes and if your iPod is not appearing in iTunes then Put your iPod in disk mode by referring the Above steps and then try to Restore your iPod to Factory settings.

  • My ipod nano click wheel will not work - Ipod works when docked on mobile speakers from remote control

My ipos Nano click wheel will not work, however when it is docked on mobile speakers it will work from the remote control.

If it continues to malfunction after a restore, it's probably bad hardware.
I'd recommend making a Genius Bar appointment. They'll probably give you a couple options: Replace it with an identical model for a discounted price, or trade it in for recycling and get 10% off a new iPod.

  • My iPod Nano 6th generation doesn't seem to recognize album artwork. I've downloaded the artwork manually, and I've even restored my iPod to defaults several times, but nothing works. Does anyone have a solution?

My iPod Nano 6th Generation is not picking up album artwork. On several of my tracks, it recognizes the album art, but it doesn't seem to recognize the others. I've tried uploading the artwork onto several albums manually, I've cleared the downloaded artwork to download them again, I've even restored the iPod to its default settings...nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have a solution to this

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on anoterh computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have the very first iPod Nano, and it doesn't work anymore. Can I recycle it or trade it for a newer one?

I got this iPod a really long time ago. And when I pluged it into my computer it doesn't unlock and it doesn't let me turn it off or anything.
I've tried to do the iPod replacement but it says that my iPod isn't a part of it. But my friend has the same kind of iPod as mine and it went through.
Can I trade it in or recycle it for a newer one?

The Problem With Your Ipod Is That It Is Not Unlocked , To Unlock It You Have To Install Itunes And Plug It Into Your Computer , Then It Will Be Automatically unlocked .
No, You Cannot Recycle Your Ipod Because Ipod Nano 1G does Not Include in the recycling Program
